Every car is fast now...

Family sedans with 300 HP...

Econboxes with 250 HP

"Every day" performance cars for "working folks" like the Mustang GT have 400+ HP.

My 4 banger has 270 HP.

People are using them... I got no problem with this.

If everyone would just follow the rule of slow cars in the right lane and fast cars in the left lane, all would be right with the world. If I am passing you on the right, then you are in the wrong fucking lane.

I live in a town where the main drag is 2 lanes in both directions, but there are enough old people here that don't follow the aforementioned rule that the road turns into 5 PM gridlock where it side-by-side 10+ cars deep because grandpa can't move the fuck over.

I do LOL at the people mentioned in the OP however.

Go ahead and use your power. Just don't get tense when the person in front of you is not using theirs.

It's a consideration problem all around. Everyone thinks only of themselves, and what they find immediately convenient, everyone else be damned. Almost every piss off a reasonable person could think of stems from the lack of consideration by others.

I always try to remember to pause for red light runners when my light turns green. I rarely move out immediately.

I have tried to figure this out for years myself, I mean even when you can see the light just turned red a block away they race up to it ?

I used to have a lead foot on the highways but outgrew that and proudly say I am accident free since 1979.

The thing that pisses me now is these asshats that just change lanes with no signal or look and usually no room to do so safely.

I am working on making a dash cam setup with a old android phone now to get these fucks on video.

This I do not get at all.

I think some people simply don't have the intelligence to regulate their speed. Gas is either on or off. Brake is either on or off.

It's just NOT that hard.

The freeways here are posted at 60 MPH max. (some areas are only 40)
If someone is in the right lane doing 50-55, I'll go into the left lane and pass them at 60...if you're going faster than that...you're just gonna have to cool your jets and wait until I'm done passing the slow pokes...and I don't care if there's a hundred of them...I ain't moving back over until I pass them all...

I understand getting a move on when there are a lot of cars waiting to get through an intersection, but in all seriousness there is almost no rush. I've seen cars race by me before going 10+ over speed limit on city streets, only to be right next to them two lights after. Their recklessness net them 0 savings in time!

I welcome the google car and their other overlord brethren. All hail the self driving car!

My rule is that i go 5 miles over everywhere except when the school zone light is flashing and if you're in the left lane - move over. If someone is speeding even more than I am then I move over. Basically, if you can move over to the right lane then you should. Common courtesy.

If there were no speed limits, I'd drive according to road conditions. I've been on roads where 90mph was entirely reasonable, and some where 25mph was too fast. You still have to use your head, and ignore signs that aren't appropriate.

No signs, no lines, no limits. I don't mean a free-for-all either; that's not what I want, nor what would happen. This would FORCE people to pay attention. All negative aspects of driving would simply evaporate. Imagine never stopping. I could take my ten minute drive to work where I spend 80% of the distance going over 65MPH, never hit 40, and arrive at the same time.

Imagine an insurance industry without Comparative Negligence. No more asinine scenarios where an insurance company sues itself and defends itself from itself. Do you understand how much cheaper auto insurance would be without PIP and CN?

The only downside would be finding jobs for all the ex-cops.

It can happen in a society where people feel responsible for themselves and therefore, for others as well. We would rather have signs tell us how to live, or some authority guide us.

The more traffic laws they create, the more people depend on them rather than using their own senses.

There is no bigger insult to intelligence than a left turn arrow. The people that make the rules (the majority) think they are doing good. Their best intentions litter the road with corpses daily.

As far as the entrenchment argument goes (it's too late, baby) the best way to learn to swim is to have to learn to swim. I think there would be an adjustment phase of a few months with numerous accidents and all kinds of finger pointing (because that's what we're used to), and less than a year of more adverse driving conditions, then heaven.

i do it so i'm not slowing down the people behind me. if no car behind me i take my sweet time.

I do the exact same thing for the exact same reason...

Yet, I realize it's the stupidest possible reason in the world. Saving 1 second is probably more worth it. Why? Because the fucking asshole behind you doesn't give a shit about you. They will probably honk at you because they think you're too slow anyways, they won't pay your ticket if you get pulled over, and they may even drive right by you if you crash.

I enjoy driving more at faster speeds rather than slower speeds. My time spent not driving, however, is infinitely more valuable. If I can shave two minutes off of my commute each direction every day then that is an extra (waking) day a year that I can do things that are more productive or that I enjoy more.

Its all about what your time is worth to you.

Its also the law in many states.

This. The reason I am in the car is to get somewhere where I need to be. I did not get in the car to sit around and jack off or whatever it is people are doing when they aren't moving their cars.

I generally do 5 over until I hit the 75mph highway - then I do the speed limit because an indicated 75mph is almost exactly 2000 rpm, and at anything over 2k rpm, gas mileage goes way down.

This I do not get at all.

I reeeeeeealy hate people who drive like that. Or the other variant, they're either on the gas, or on the brakes.

You're kidding right? There's an intersection with an unprotected left turn near my house, and the amount of accidents there is staggering. There's got to be around 4 minor fender-benders there a week, and at least one near fatality a month.

I spend a fair amount of time in a vehicle each work day, usually for work. I just get bored and enjoy traveling at a faster rate. Been doing it so much in my area I can time lights to within a couple seconds. The van I drive has a slight delay between hitting the gas and it actually moving forward at a significant rate, after many hundreds of times getting stuck at a certain light I've timed it so right as the van starts to accelerate the light turns green. I get like 2 car lengths on people just getting through the intersection.

I hate it when those damned miners get in car accidents...doesn't matter how minor they may be.
