Take a look at the topics within this forum as a guage of happiness between the two sides.
Nothing but doom and gloom, misery, and crying from democrats.
Mostly uplifting stories from repubs or the right, which usually gets blasted with negativity by the democrats in here.

Who knows what the reason is, it just seems like democrats are pessimists about everything. They could win the lottery and manage to find a negative slant about it.
You mean like:
  • Taxes are crushing Americans / small business / corporations
  • The estate tax is stealing family farms
  • Social security is going to destroy America
  • Welfare is destroying America (except for corporate welfare, that's good)
  • Safety regulations are crushing American business
  • Environmental regulations are crushing American business
  • Reporting regulations are crushing American business
  • Labor unions are crushing American business
  • Minimum wage laws are crushing American small business
  • Gays are destroying the institution of marriage
  • "Liberals" are destroying America's values
  • Al Qaeda is going to destroy America if we don't allow illegal domestic spying
  • Al Qaeda is going to destroy America if we don't extend the "PATRIOT" act
  • Al Qaeda is going to destroy America if we don't stop the leaks (except for those about CIA agents specializing in WMDs)
  • Al Qaeda is going to destroy America if we make Bush obey the law
  • Iran is going to nuke America if we don't attack now
  • "Liberals" criticizing the Iraq war are going to let al Qaeda destroy America
  • "Liberals" questioning the Bush administration are going to let al Qaeda destroy America
  • "Liberals" (insert random claim here) are going to let al Qaeda destroy America
Uplifting Republican stories like those? Seems to me like the Republicans are the party of gloom and doom. Every time someone mentions a tax or questions BushCo, all we hear is how the sky is falling.
lmao perfect example of a liberals doom and gloom.
Perfect example of you sticking your fingers in your ears and shouting "La la la La La La LA LA LA" every time you encounter something that you don't agree with. Believe it or not, that grey matter between your ears can be used for more than memorizing talking points.

Obviously you are still learning.

Lame. Duhvert and deflect as you must, the fact remains that these are all examples of the kinds of "gloom and doom, misery, and crying" we see from "repubs or the right". Contrary to your claim, there is gloom and doom from both sides, just with different issues.

Democrats are unhappy because there are still "terrists" out there. Republicans are happy there is someone to call a bogeyman, and someone to fight.

edit : quoted the terrists because I spelled it that way on purpose.

Agreed, things like slavery, civil rights, woman sufferage, gay rights, etc. They like things the good old way - white men control all power and money.

Why would you even say something like that? You really believe Republicans want to bring back slavery and take away civil rights and woman sufferage? If you do...you need to re-evaluate your views about Republicans. We aren't that much different from you as you think, we just have a little bit different ideas on how to get to the same place.

Yeah, I disagreed with the first part of Bowfinger's statement, too. Conservatives believe things reached perfection in the 1900s, pre-trust busting.

What he is saying is that you conservatives opposed those very things at every turn at the time they were each an issue. I won't say Republicans because the nature of the party has changed in the last 150years but 'conservatives' were/are always opposed to social progresses like the mentioned (abolition of) slavery, civil rights, women?s sufferage, gay rights, blacks in the military, all those things we now take for granted (except gay rights ).

Exactly. I don't think anyone in their right mind wants to bring any of those institutions (slavery, oppression of women, etc.), but conservatives don't usually land on the side of change.

Perhaps you're legally blind and missed the part where I said 'I won't say Republicans because the nature of the party has changed'.... the nature of both parties have changed since that era.

My point applies to conservatives.

You misunderstand me. Conservatives of any given period resist all change, no matter how good. Change normally upset existing power structures, which is usually rich white guys. I never stated the current GOP wants slavery back (duh), but they do resist things like civil rights to this day.

Democrats are unhappy because they are in constant conflict with themselves. There is no consistency across thier ideals. They probably spend too much time in a mental wrestling match trying to come to terms with the silly ideals they have decided to cling to. This would also tie in to the thread I posted a while back about republicans getting better sleep than democrats.

Perhaps the dems just naturally attract pessimism, this forum would certainly be a testament to that.

I suppose life would be easier, and a lot less challenging and stressful, if I had a religion that told me exactly what to think and what values to hold.

I think some seem unable to understand that 'Republican' and 'conservative' have not been and are not always mutually inclusive.
Some of the most racist, conservative bastards around were the Southern Democrats who resisted the civil rights movement.

It's strange that some people seem absolutely unable to think beyond the borders of 'Republican vs Democrat'...
as far as I am concerned the Democrats are only slightly less scary, self-interested (and often criminal) than the Republicans... and I think I only hold this perception because they are the only opposition to what I believe is a dangerous administration.

LOL, and when you mess up you just blame it on that nasty old Devil. He made me do it so why should I be unhappy. I'll just repent (again) and everythign is OK. Gee, thank you God. The party of personal resposibility, right!

Sure, I'm happy but very, very concerned.

I'm happy that I have a beautiful wife and two beautiful kids and they are the joys of my life.

As Karl Marx said, religion is the opiate of the masses... it truly is. I was a happier person when I was in the 'God Matrix'... I mean comon' the idea that I have a heavenly guide who I can pray to for help with what I am helpless to control myself (like 'please god look after my family' or 'please spare our town from the storm'), the idea that I don't have to fear the uncertainty of death because a fairy tale afterlife awaits me... these are incredibly COMFORTING ideas... they address and anaesthetize some of the main 'worries' inherent in the human condition and ease the pain also inherent in the human condition.

I rebuilt my life around logic, reason, truth, humanity, and empathy and I've found I am now a much better person that I ever was when I was religious (this is MY experience only people). I am now more thoughtful, kind, aware of others feelings, more aware of the true value of my life and others lives, more open minded to other peoples, cultures, and ideas, more aware of and empathetic to the suffering in the world, more aware of my impact on my surroundings, and more aware of my own responsibility in 'shaping my fate'. But I am not happier... I couldn't possibly be happier and more aware of and empathetic to the suffering in the world. Thing is though, I prefer to live unhappy in reality than happy in fantasy.

My mother is still a fundamentalist Christian who now lives in the Ozark Mountains awaiting the coming end as signalled by all this evil terror. lol.

I'm not religious, so your sweeping generalization doesn't apply.

Besides, I doubt republicans are any more religious than democrats by any substantial amount. Where I grew up the local churches might as well have been the campaign headquaters for the local dems.
