What is a doomsday scenario to you?
You forgot cats and dogs living together.Prolonged high unemployment. Spike in crime. Riots and looting. Financial and economic collapse.
See Greece.

We see that the great and holy force of self interest, the God of Capitalism, turns out to be Cannibalism.
We haven't been practicing capitalism.
This is why I have been scared to change or look for a new job since graduating college. My job isn't the best, and I don't make a killer amount but I do good enough and it's only three days a week.
And while this is all going on, we have elites on this forum and in Washington arguing about opening the border up to more illegals and giving the ones here citizenship, further depressing wages and work prospects for Americans. Crazy, I know. There are many ways to rejig the economy. One is to have less competition (no illegals) for jobs, which would raise wages and get more people working again.
I don't think they hate this country...they just appear to think we have unlimited wealth. They hate this country.
I'm not one of those survivalist nuts but if it ever came to it I can grow my own food, hunt, and have a place to live that is paid for so I'm not as worried as some people are. Worst case I would have to sit in the dark not being able to pay for electricity. Everything else I need to live I can get without money, it wouldn't be enjoyable but if it came to it I could.
Have a stockpile of ammo ready?
I'm still waiting for my firearms permit.

I don't think we should panic. In fact the time when everyone is panicking is frequently the time when the economy begins to turn around.
PS Atreus, what industry are you getting laid off from?
Just IT stuff. Database Administration, systems administration...blah blah.
I'm a bow hunter mainly, endless supply of ammo
This is what happens when we keep putting morons in government and give them more and more power every day.
How does that work? You rip branches off trees and sharpen with your blade?
We seriously will have to consider kicking out all the illegals because pretty soon, because Americans will have to work the lower paying jobs to put food on the table or starve to death (or get bailed out by the govt).
The illegals sending a huge chunk of their wages back to Mexico are not helping our economy. They only spend what they need to here in the US to sustain life (food/shelter).
Wages are going to drop drastically across the board in most industries and the rich will get richer, the poor will get poorer and the middle class will dwindle. This is not going to be pretty.
Our Constitution guarantees the right to life liberty and the pursuit of happiness and our system says we have to do that for ourselves by earning money from jobs so there it is. The right to work is a right we do not have. The purpose of government should be to insure that all who can work and want to have jobs. When people are hungry and miserable, they will tear everything down. Instead of everybody making it together, we have created a system where everybody is competing for everybody else's lunch. But competition is nothing more or less than hate. We are beginning now to see what that hate does.
Everything for me and nothing for you is great, except that I am you and so are you.
As you sow so shall you reap. We see that the great and holy force of self interest, the God of Capitalism, turns out to be Cannibalism.
You can let the private interests continue to turn the US into a country impoverished and concentrating wealth, or you can support the progressive policies for the public interest.
The former is a hell of a lot easier to happen, as has happened in many countries.
