Agreed. The situation looks grim. We could take solace in next year's election, but that will really bring things to a head when Trump loses and refuses to step down.

The only thing I can think of is that the SCOTUS will probably not side with Trump in a Constitutional crisis. Roberts seems to flip left when he thinks doing otherwise will damage conservatism in the long run. If RBG passes away some time in the next 18 months, then we're in real trouble.

Yes. Nothing would make me happier than to be totally wrong about this but my gut tells me the Trump era will not end without something very bad happening. I fully expect him to try and not step down if he loses in 2020. (primarily I suspect he will float trial balloons among conservatives about declaring the election fraudulent and go from there depending on how they react)

We already know he'll cry foul, the concern is if he'll take it a step further and use the power of the presidency to do something more.

That's kind of my point, I think he will, at a minimum, float some trial balloons to see how Republicans and the public will react. If the pushback isn't forceful enough I think he will, probably calling for a new election and/or the FBI to investigate the previous one, refusing to step down until the investigation is complete.

The good news if that happens...is that we'll be able to see just how deep the deep state is at that point...assuming we survive the ordeal.

If it comes to revolution I would love to help but I live in California and can't buy a decent weapon.

We don't need guns. We could just quit buying shit we don't need and bring the economy and country to its knees. The government might not give a shit about us individuals but when businesses and investors start complaining the politicians will listen.

It would be asymmetrical warfare. There is no overcoming the military (assuming they are willing to fire upon US citizens as things stand) with direct conflict. The primary goal would be to make the US unrulable and unable to function as a government. That is what would bring down a tyrant.

You can't carry what you can't purchase, eh? Six months or more means it's all over anyway.

Who said anything about purchase? If we get to a point where actual "2nd amendment remedies" are the last resort, there is no rule of law, capitalism ceases to exist and it will be every man for himself. Guess who has the numbers and smarts on their side?

Yeah. What would you do? Wait for the tyrant to restore order and ban guns from blue cities?

Are you saying you'd rather wait for the ovens to get warmed up first before putting your life on the line for this country?

If I came to it I would whatever resources necessary. I'm glad to see you would defend our nation from enemies foreign and domestic and put yourself on the line if the worst happened.

Unfortunately, he seems to be setting up reasonably well for reelection, broken as the system is.

Why would you say that? His approval ratings are very low which generally signals he is at substantial risk of losing the election.

His approval ratings are low, as they've always been, but he's doing fairly well in context of his personal ratings over time. Just a hit new high for "economic approval" which is a fairly significant voting "issue."

While we may have disgust over the current state of affairs, many many voters don't give a damn about Mueller, Barr, Russians, etc. etc unfortunately.

We know her certainly doesn't need a majority (or even plurality) of the vote for reelection.

We have a fairly dispersed democratic field (and party).

I'm not saying it's easy sailing to reelection, but I certainly think it's reasonable.

Obviously his election was slim, I can't remember, some 80k odd voters over the 3 states? And I'm really hoping the "independents" and the "well, I'll give him a shot" crowds have come to their senses... But I've heavily overestimated the American electorate before.

Getting back to the original topic we have AG who's covering up for Trump and refusing to testify in front of the house lawyers. A few days ago Trump has said Mueller shouldn't testify and just this morning Trump implied he's owed two more years of presidency because of the witch hunt.

Where are all the conservatives who cried King Obama?

Anyone who still denies that we're slowly sliding into authoritarian fascism is either willfully ignorant or outright lying.

Yeah we are getting ready to vote to hold the US Attorney General in contempt of congress for ignoring subpoenas. We're definitely going....somewhere.
