You oughta hear me when I'm on a hiking trail and someone has thoughtfully bagged up their dog's turd and then gone and LEFT THE FUCKING BAG ON THE TRAIL 🤬
I usually pick up trail litter, but rarely do I stoop to hauling some fucking asshole's dog's turd with me.

I don't get this at all. You go to the trouble to bag it up but just leave it? You actively made the problem worse!

I usually return the cart to the nearest coral or inside the store, but I kind of get it if some people with kids don't. The stores usually have staff for that sort of thing anyway, keeps them employed.

Keep the poo with you to fling on arsehats riding ebikes on foot trails while insisting that they have right of way. Otherwise, discreetly walk it into the woods (it's a wooded trail, right?) and fling it there, where it decomposes along with all the other animal poo and fertilizes the soil as a benefit, not as though it is littering as long as nobody else steps in or smells it.

Supposedly you can take a shopping cart, turn another one upside down and stack them, zip tie them together, and trap poo inside. I use the term poo loosely, without pronouns like her or she or Leslie.

There's always the take a penny, leave a penny approach. If I happen to park near a cart trying to escape into the wild, I grab it and use it.

^ The problem is that if you're someone who always leaves the penny, you're doing it to help others, then you see someone who always takes the penny, and argues that it's okay to impose a burden on others because it somehow balances out by doing other things instead. It doesn't balance out to the person you burdened with leaving your effin' shopping cart in the way, by doing something else for someone else. It's all a nonsense excuse. If someone truly cares, they do the additional helpful things without any of the negative ones, not trying to make excuses for what they'll pay back eventually.

I had an interaction with an older gentleman at the cart corral inside the store. I was just leaving with the bags in my hand and I was putting my cart in the row. I saw the guy moving slowly but purposefully for a cart. I said "I recommend this one. It has no screwed up wheels, it ran straight and true, was easy to push, and came right out of the row without me having to strain too much. I hate leaving it alone, it ran great for me for 15 minutes and silently just did its job". He looked at me and after an unusually long silence said "okay" and took the cart. I still miss that cart, I've never had another quite like it.

But I also don't use carts that often. I just carry in a giant Ikea bag and put all my shit in there, go through checkout, load back into Ikea bag. I hate pushing carts around. limited mobility. I tend to make more frequent, smaller trips to the store which doesn't bother me when in walking distance.

I'd like to be a parkinglot enforcer. Don't return your cart? I break your knees. Do some lame ass push towards the depot, leaving the cart sideways, and half out of the alcove? I bitch slap you with a blackjack, cause you at least put in the tinniest bit of effort.

Best part is I quickly work myself out of a job. I'd be there a month max before people figure out they better act like they weren't raised by chimps, and the carts end up exactly where they belong, and they'd be lined up with precision.

I often do that too actually. If there's a cart outside I'll just take that one in and use it.

This whole thing annoys me, too.I do NOT accept the excuse that NOT returning the cart provides employment to staff. Who do you think PAYS for that staff? You, me and every other customer! It's in the prices so many complain about!

But personally I find carts scattered about a parking lot a driving hazard, and they block use of spaces. So I will grab a few loose carts nearby if there are any and put them into the nearest Kart Korral just to keep the lot clearer because that's what I like to see. A touch of OCD, I suppose.

I see those on the trail I'm about to hike, every time I hike it. Someone does pick them up, but I have no idea who. Last few years people in my neighborhood leave those bags in my waste container, which is in front of my house by the walkway. Used to be their dogs would poop on my very small lawn and, of course, I'd step on some once in a while and curse up a storm. Sooooo many dog owners around here. Woof city.

I am not a big fan of cars waiting for my parking spot. It is really nice when a car is waiting for my spot to close the trunk and then walk by the waiting car on the way to the cart storage area.
