Voted both. I can't imagine any other companies providing suitably high performance graphics parts for some years yet and I am looking forward to what comes with the next generation and will choose my card based on its merits when we see the benchmarks.

My preference is always for the card that provides the best perception of motion. For the last year that has been NVidia, but very soon to be AMD again with 13.2 beta drivers. Having owned many cards from both companies I have been happy with all but one of those card models so I can't imagine me changing my strategy in the future.

So it's okay to post worthless information as long as I have a "FWIW" disclaimer? And I'm not allowed to question it?

Okay.
Fwiw (again), I saw some value in it in the sense that it may represent a somewhat broader picture on the sentiments of hundreds of GPU owners/users on the positive experiences with their cards that may naturally translate into them being current or future fans of these brands. And that it could present a much wider sampling than some forum poll could offer. Now we have seen many instances of people declaring their anti-x-brand sentiments due to simple things going wrong or not working or defective hardware, etc, and using that as some silly reason why they dont like x brand and opting for y brand and in what may be an attempt to infer that their experiences are somehow representative of a 'wider reality' of why x brand sucks and why y brand is better. The newegg ratings (again fwiw, and imo), represents those who had little or no negative experience with their cards and *could* offer a subtle hint to those here who think their negative experiences with one brand or another may not be applicable to the larger whole. The 'fwiw' was simply to allow room for those who could not grasp the above..... and/or those who may find it 'worthless'. :sneaky:

I've been using AMD for 90% of my builds since the Radeon 8500 I bought. I owned a 470 for a while, and a 670 FTW for 3 days before the fan died and I returned it for a 7970.

Using a 7850 right now, Gaming low res, happy with it, its more than enough. (lost the office due to new baby, using a 50" 1360x768 Plasma as my main monitor)

Happy, I've never had one fail yet and have had good luck for the most part with drivers.

I don't like nVidia because of company ethics, CEO being a pompous egomaniac. Viral marketing (Rollo, Keysplayr) reading their posts is just atrocious. Wooden screws, hiring ex-AMD employees with stolen documents etc. I dislike AMD because of their total negligence for 4-way CF, I can't even play FarCry3 with CF active because the game crashes, and generally lagging support for CF. So I chose neither but I might as well choose ANTI-AMD and ANTI-NV

You know, CEOs in general are pompous egomaniacs, or else they wouldn't be aggressive enough for the job in the first place. There's plenty of gripe about the AMD CEO too.

Rory Reed is a goofball. JHH thinks he's the king of the world. There's a rather stark contrast between them.

Yay conspiracy theories.

Personally voted both based on had wonderful gaming memories on both!

The key is with both companies offering strong choice and some differentiation, gamers may find what best fits their subjective tastes, tolerances and wallet..... if one chooses, nVidia or AMD, well, enjoy their strengths and have fun!

I used to be a big ATI fan because it was a Canadian company, but they've gone downhill since they were bought by AMD. I go with nvidia now, at least for my main rig. If I was building a server or other machine and had to buy a video card I would not care either way. Nvidia also has better Linux support which is very important.

I like these threads!

One of my fondest memories is with ATI hardware when Oblivion was a hot title. The HDR lighting was very impressive in that title but the added lighting contrasts and depth created very noticeable aliasing and desired some level of AA. The amazing part was ATI offered an in-game HDR+AA for Oblivion, and so many gamers were happy, huge smile on my face, even some of the ATI employees were acting like frenzied gamers, hehe, at Rage3d.

I voted both, but I'm not really a fan of any company, just some of the cards they have made.

Rendition, sadly they haven't been around for a while..
Currently both nvidia and amd make great GPUs, intel could be serious contender if they would choose to do so.

I prefer nVidia because they offer me more control in how the card operates, and also because of brand familiarity.

But the thing is, no matter which vendor I prefer, it’s in the consumers’ best interests for vendors to achieve virtual parity. If one falls too far behind, the consumer starts getting gouged.

We need AMD to compete with Intel and nVidia, no matter which camp you prefer. Some people don’t seem to understand this point.

I'm not a fanboi of either but prefer AMD due to memories of Nvidia's texture cheat with their 4600TI a long time ago. Also the fact they screwed 3dfx left a bad taste BUT I've owned and been happy with plenty of Nvidia cards, the last being a 8800GTX which is still in my ex gf's rig. I buy bang for buck and would always buy whichever brand offered the best performance for my money, if they offer the same performance at the same price I'd buy AMD as they need to be kept in the game if I want to be able to afford GPU's in future (as Nvidia will screw us all if they are the sole player).

Glad there was enough awareness and vocal views about nVidia's aggressive tendencies on image quality, specifically with filtering, in the past, because their filtering has been impressive since the 8800 GTX, to me. I'm glad they have seemed to learn from their long and winding road on optimizations.

I'm not a fan of placing blame but the 3dfx saga, to me, is firmly in the hands of 3dfx and lack of OEM vision with Greg Ballard leading the way. 3dfx' legacy lives through nVidia.

I remember nvidia doing some pretty shady stuff 5-8 years ago (not talking about driver cheating, I don't care about that at all). I don't like how they tried to force physx on everyone - it would have given them a monopoly on physics engines and potentially GPUs. Their CEO comes off as an arrogant ass which is why tie goes to AMD for now.

Though I used to get nvidia stuff all the time (geforce 4 - geforce 9, skpping 5).
