Strong, as in I can swim and stay float by myself with sneakers + jeans + shirt. Also want to know how many people out there can actually even swim.

I'm no Navy SEAL, but I can stay afloat and swim to shore safely without major currents in full BDU + boots.

Me too. The only motivation for me to constantly workout was during my time in the Army, to keep up with the others. I need a heart attack.

I do pretty well. I can't do the fly, but I can do the flip turn real well (learned it by myself).

Yet.

Chances are you never will at this age. Fear is a bitch.

I don't know about "strong," but I could float while wearing jeans/shoes if I had to. I would have to kick off the shoes to swim to shore, though (and that would be damn hard with jeans). One time I tried towing a kayak I flipped over with jeans on - it was damn hard (especially with one arm occupied by the rope).

edit:
My dad is 60 and he never learned how to swim. He refused to go into the pool past the shallow end when he was in his early 40's (when my brothers and I were little kids). He loves to be on boats, but don't put him in the water - it's just not his element. And he's one of the bravest and most prideful people I know.

Fear?

Majority of the people start panicking and sink whenever they can't touch the bottom of the pool (the deep end). I just know this from experience as a child up to an adult.

I don't believe I've ever tried to float in jeans, shoes and shirt, but I feel confident I could stay afloat even if I did.

I can do all the "normal" strokes, from the breaststroke to the front crawl. I fatigue fairly quickly, but I don't swim regularly. If I swam against Phelps, he'd probably be filming another commercial by the time I made it half a lap.

*shrug* Maybe I'll never learn how to swim... iDunno. I want to, but have nobody to help me (teach me, keep me from drowning, etc), and I know quite a few lifeguards and swimming instructors -- there's not enough money in the world to get me to go into their kiddie wading pools, much less a swimming pool under their supervision. lol

When I was a kid, mom would throw pennies into the pool and tell me to go get them. So I would dive to the bottom and stay down there until I got them all. It's a bit easier to motivate kids to get past their fears than adults.

Dunno if I could do that now, but as a kid, I'd jump in the Pacific fully clothed with jeans, shirt, and shoes. I still love swimming but I'm slow. I swim regularly but am not anywhere near the speed as the people in the "fast" lap swim lanes at my local public pool.

I can't but signed for classes at the YMCA. It's an adult class so hopefully I won't feel bad being 21 and not being able to swim, the lady almost signed me up for the 6 year olds class.

I'm a lousy swimmer. For one thing, I've never learned to breathe properly.
