Time to see a doctor about getting a sleep study.

Could be many explanations. Here is the most common probably:

1) Are you just normally not a morning person. If so, then don't worry, you are fine.

But there could be others
2) Are you getting to bed and awake at the same everyday (even weekends)? If not try it for a month, you'll be surprized.
3) It could be something preventing you from sleeping well - noise, drugs (like medicine, caffeine, alcohol, or others), or some medical problem like sleep apnea.

I bet it is #1 or #2.

I had the same problem for a long time.

These are the three things that fixed it for me:

1) Exercise (Daily, none of this 3 times a week crap.)
2) Eat three meals a day, and try to make them at least psuedo-nutricious.
3) Get into bed at the same time every night, get out of bed at the same time every morning.

I'm like you. Even I get 12 hours of sleep, I am still dead tired when I first wake up, and I usually just lay there in bed for at least half an hour, sometimes an hour, until I feel awake enough and strong enough to actually get up.

You don't need to be grossly overweight to suffer from sleep apnea. I have sleep apnea but am not overweight(5' 11", 165lbs)
