? Of course you can get scalpers - all it takes is enormous 'burst' demand from early adopters. Which NV very definitely do 'suffer' from.
(Not that they're complaining ).

Suspect they already build a fair bit of time in for stockpiling reserves, but there does come a point past which you can't really justify keeping doing that.

I voted no, want to see what the big pascal chip looks like when it drops. I don't know if I have a golden sample 980TI or what, but my 980TI scores very close in 3dmark to the 1080 at OCguru . I know its not exactly apples to apples, but my 980ti at 1565mhz scores close to the 1080 at what they said to be 1.7ghz. My GPU score was 21,395 to the 1080 score being 21905. Like I said, whether that translates to be worthwhile in real world gaming, I don't know really, but as of right now, until I see some 1080's hitting 2.5+ Ghz, the 980ti stays in my rig.

Almost by definition, Supply being called fine means that you can supply demand, irrespective to if you have a burst upfront. A "fine supply" caters for this effect.

You can't have it both ways, which was my point.

You can't have scalpers if at the same time you also say supply will be fine. Pick one.

TIL: Scalpers can't exist if supply is healthy.

Yeah, no, they can exist just to prey on ill-informed buyers.

You see it all the time on Amazon.

OK, I'll agree with this.

At the same time, will you agree that informed buyers cannot fall prey to scalpers if supply is fine?

I'm going to give a yes/no answer. For GPUs, I'd hope informed buyers aren't being taken for granted if supply is healthy.

However, not sure about you, but I've found myself paying twice if not thrice for a dozen roses because I forgot to buy ahead for Valentine's Day. Haha.

It's not like the roses are magically gone and these are the last ones left, it's the guy selling them to me knows I'll probably have to hit a few stores if I want to get them at a normal price and he's just trying to save me time/hassle. Haha.

Supply isn't fine or healthy.

Now if you had waited till late in the day, when demand appears to be disappearing. A possibly quite dangerous strategy however, not knowing your GF.

Edit: correcting an error

Supply isn't fine or healthy.

Trust me, they are. You just got to get ready to go to a few stores if you want to pay regular price. Fine/healthy doesn't imply it's widely available, ie I can go into any store and walk out. Since we're talking about supply/demand, that implies demand is low.

Now if supply were low/not healthy, I would be getting scalped/gouged at even the few stores that do sell roses, well because they know supply is low and it's a priced commodity at this junction in time.

Sometimes you just got to roll the dice. Haha.

Unfortunate that this thread had gone from being about whether one is buying a 1080/1070 or not to certain posters just trying to claim supply problems for the 1070/1080.

My apologies, but after 17 pages?????????

If there are indeed supply problems when availability is expected to happen on May 27, then I would obviously expect people to (rightly) complain in this thread that they can't get product.

That said, I'm not taking any chances: as soon as May 27 rolls around I will be frantically trying to buy my 1080s from Newegg.com (GeForce.com isn't great because shipping prices are high).

If I can snag two and you can't, I'll sell em to you

Of course @ cost + shipping. Haha.

(I talk about scalping, but I'm not that kind of guy. If I get one chances are I'd end up just keeping it because I got no self control).

What's amazing is that somebody who got a unit from the launch event is selling it on eBay and it's now up past $1200.

I just don't understand why this person can't wait, like, six days for the actual availability.

How soon after the 1080 will the 1070 be out? I think I read somewhere two weeks? Then I still have to wait for amd to see what and when they release.

Im debating weather to update my mobo and CPU now or just get whatever new gpu comes out first then upgrade mobo and CPU if needed.

May 27 for 1080, June 10 for 1070.

You'll probably get a better bang for your buck from upgrading the GPU first then the CPU/mobo later if you absolutely need to. 2500K is still a rock solid chip.

Some people got so much money the envy turns to contempt haha.

I mean, if I could drop $1200 to get a toy a week before launch and not even have to think about twice - I most definitely would. I'd be the guy that causes the 1080 Ti Founder Edition XL is introduced at $2000 and then Atenra would be like "TOLD YOU SO!"

I'm still thinking about it since I'm on 1080p. Too bad AMD's computex reveal comes after the 1080 launch which means they're not really aiming to compete at least performance-wise. Isn't Vega to Titan/Ti what Polaris is to the xx80/xx70? And also with Zen being about a 40% upgrade, they should be competing with the i3's and i5's. Man I always regret not spending more on my videocard but at my resolution, I might not need it again this time.

In the same boat since I'm still at 1080p for a while no need to get the top end card right away. It really won't matter except you will be able to max everything and I don't see why you can't do it with the 1070/ Polaris equivalent.

By stating a pricetag of under $299 for the Polaris, I think they mean $279. If they manage to bring it out at $249, I'm going definitely AMD just for the principle of it.

Nope.

Polaris is below 1080/1070 with maybe the top P10 competing with the 1070.

Vega however, should be in the 1080 - Gp100 [GP102 ?] range.

It's not as if GPUs have fixed performance slots where the two manufacturers have to compete. Both Nvidia & AMD can pick the performance range they target independently of the other. With a full product stack, there will be overlap and competition.

They don't have fixed performance slots all the time but what usually happened in the past is they would fill in the voids left by each other with AMD usually having more options by way of rebranding. What I meant is that there are usually two new enthusiast cards and two new mainstream cards that also happen to release together. Polaris 10 is a die shrink/new architecture and it looks like it will perform below the 1070. You are right about that. But I also expect Vega to perform below the titan when they are both released.

This is a fair assumption if recent gens are anything to base it on.
