Agree with Toyota.

I have a 2500k @ 4.3; Wasn't planning on upgrading anyways but this is a joke of an upgrade for anyone that has a 2500k or higher or has money burning a hole in their pocket

For the time being...no. A 4770K costs € 312,- in NL. Just way overpriced

I voted yes, based on the idea that I will probably get some flavor of haswell in either a desktop or laptop or tablet sometime in the next year, but I am not buying one anytime soon.

Question... so I'm definitely going for something beefier than an i5 (BF3 online is maxing out my CPU). ITX is also in my near future (waiting for Ncase), so I'm buying a new motherboard anyway.

Would it make more sense to buy end of line 3770Ks (which are still $230 at microcenter) versus a 4770K (which are $280 at microcenter)? Z77 ITX motherboards are also around $50 cheaper as well.

Is Haswell worth a $100 price increase (which doesn't look to be dropping any time soon)? Might be closer to $50 since Microcenter doesn't carry any Z77 ITX motherboards themselves and so I don't get the bundle pricing there.

Looks lik my o/c i2500K will survive another generation. Still got a GTX 570 too. Tough to even justify upgrading that as everything I play still has very high fps at near full settings at 19x10. I have money to spend but other then SSD's which I now have nothing is tempting me to open my wallet.

A dull time for PC builders - I remember going from an K6@450 to an A900 to a P2.4C@3.2, then from that to a E6600@3.2, then a Q6600@3.2, then this i2500K@4.3. All huge performance leaps - haswell is just another tiny step.

I purchased a 4770k and an ASRock Z87 Extreme 4. So far I am not impressed with the motherboard at all. The PCB is thin, the Heatsinks are cheap and smaller than the pictures look, the spacing on the sata connectors are a pain for good cable management and I am not looking forward to having higher temps.

What motherboard did you have before? Asrock has always been more of a budget brand.

You need to dump that 4770k and motherboard asap to a fellow member that needs an upgrade from the same ole 2600k they bought from you previously.

I'm not upgrading.... Currently have a 2500k OC'd to 4.3 ghz, could possibly go higher if I upgraded my mobo (Asrock z68 pro 3m) but don't feel that the expense is worth it. Besides, I'm perfectly happy with the performance i'm getting in games (7950, playing at 1440p).

I might have bit on Haswell if they had higher OC potential than what I've seen so far, but even then I'd have to be a 5ghz OC for me to justify having to buy a new CPU and Mobo

I am definitely not upgrading. It just isn't worth paying for a new mobo + CPU for a miniscule performance increase.

My Ivy will last a long time if Intel keeps releasing laptop focused CPU architectures for desktop use.

3770K actually went up to $250 in the latest flyer unfortunately, you may be able to get them to match their old $230 price point. Not sure what the difference in pricing on the ITX boards are, but for a few of the featured Z87 ATX boards there was not much difference at all in price from the previous Z77 version, maybe $20-30 max. The ITX boards may carry more of a premium however,

To me, the $100 premium or so was justified at this point, mainly due to the Z87 chipset improvements. 6x SATA6G is awesome, 950MB/s sequential read and 2x everything else from my HyperX RAID 0 array is awesome, with additional expandability for other SATA 6G drives. With Z77, you're done there at 2x and while some have 3rd party controllers, they are terrible compared to the Intel onboard. There's a few other benefits here and there that make the upgrade worthwhile at this point, if I were buying a year ago I probably would've just gone with IVB.

Yeah I sent that board back, it's not terrible but for just a little bit more money you can get a much better board (Gigabyte Z87x UD4 and MSI Z87 GD65). There's also the Asus Z87 Pro for like $169 after $400 off, but it had a few options I didn't really want/need like WiFi. Main reason I sent the Extreme4 back though was the PCIe layout, x8/x4/x4 (3.0) sucks for anyone who wants to go SLI or wants to add a PhysX card as needed.

But yeah, flimsy 4-layer PCB was a major complaint on the last version as well, it's certainly one thing I noticed right away on the Gigabyte...all that Ultra Durable marketing with 6-layer PCB etc. is really tangible in this case, board feels like a tank and every bit as quality as the X58 Classified I'm upgrading from.

Spoiler: cheap mobos are made from wet paper. Nothing new here... ohh, and you may want to put the board in some kind of case (ATX). That should help with "flimsy". Man, those electronics are garbage. So small and fragile.. like a girls toys.
Now hand that hammer to me, I need to close the case!

I looked as the ASRock boards because they had a really good rep last gen, but they didn't look very good this gen and they have a 1 year warranty... No thanks!

I'm currently debating some options. Haswell is one of them.

Currently I'm in a build a rig for my daughters boyfriend dilemma.

He's got a really tight budget for now. He wants to play games and stay close to a $500 budget at the same time....Go figure!

I currently have a i5-3470 with a MSI m-atx motherboard in my rig. I was kinda thinking about giving him a sweet deal on it to keep him at least close to his budget.

I'm trying to push the importance of quad-core on him as he's not a upgrade my pc kinda guy....He's got a single core p4 with a 8400gs currently. I don't want him to be disappointed with his new rig. Kinda thinking just about anything would be a massively huge performance gain anyways.

I'll be waiting for Ivy-E. SB-E early adopters have gotten great value out of their chips and still are. Haswell is a no go for most of us.

Interesting point. I did not check the warranty and assumed it was 2 years. Dummy me.

I think I will be firing it up today to see what it is all about. My rig is built, I just spent so much time tying cables and it was bed time when I got finished. I figured I would do one aggravating task at a time

I am really contemplating on going Matx with a 350D and a Z87 Gryphon. What do you think?

^^ What is your 4770K clocked at?

My motherboard arrived today, so I'll start building tonight and I'll let you know.

Right now, my 2600K overclocked to 4.7GHz but I actually ran it at 4.4GHz. I'll see how high I can go with the 4770K and then I'll back off, but I'll be bummed if I don't end up at 4.4GHz or higher.

I agree with the ASROCK extreme 4. I have always been an Asus guy but I wanted additional onboard USB 3.0 for the 3 ports on my case and it was cheaper.

The board has some wierd placement issues and along with my antec 1200 v3 the cable management options were terrible. Love the build, but inside is a bit of a mess.

Take it. Intel doesn't care. You're just one of those "desktop users". Why would anyone care about that market, it's shrinking.

Where did you come up with 1yr warranty? The ones I glanced at all show as 3yr warranty.
