Not buying for desktop, pretty meh. When I replace my wife's laptop though, I'll be going for one.

probably

using an E8500 @ 4.05 GHz so it'll be a sizable upgrade for me

primarily waiting on motherboard reviews and a consensus on which mobos represent the best value boards for overclocking

I'd be a lot more willing to go for Haswell if they have yet another generation of chips that need to be de-lidded to get adequate cooling done to the chip itself, or as someone mentioned earlier wasting space on the chip on an iGPU for their K models as people dropping the extra money for the K's are likely not interested in utilizing built in graphics.

Still on the fence as to whether I want to use the 3770k I have coming in tomorrow or sell it and look to upgrade to haswell, sell the chip when the 5th gen launches and run with that. The feature-sets on the motherboards this generation are quite nice though.

I don't replace CPU's every generation. So I am looking forward to upgrading my i7-920. More performance and less heat.

Wife's laptop converting to a true touchscreen ultra tablet something.

Desktop .... possibly
But only cause my cheap z68 mobo is probably on it's last days.
(Ports dying, sound dying etc).

...Expected more in raw IPC , definately.
Expected more in OC.

Still not sure - gonna be a tough pill to swallow.

usb issues, knowing all that space is wasted on a gpu, the overclocking, nah

I'm on an undervolted Q9550 and I'm still going to pass, although it's getting hard to keep the northbridge heatsink cool, ziptied a fan to it but there's noise issues.

It's crazy to think that right now I'm the equivalent of someone using a Pentium II in 2003. I thought I was hardcore?

 My wish list for my next notebook.

GT3 or GT3e graphics
under 4 pounds
no ODD
room for 7mm 2.5" drive + mSATA/NGFF
higher resolution than 1366x768
decent battery life
affordable (can mean $500 or $1000, depending on my budget at the time)

Yes.

In a couple of months I will be building a machine for a family member based on Ncase and why not use the latest and greatest? Heck I might build two, my own machine is a little long in the tooth with i5-750.

I have some ancient old turion x 2 laptop from early 2008 with a joke battery life. So I'll be replacing it with haswell. That will be one huge upgrade.

Yes, eventually...

I'll be upgrading from an E8500 and I don't plan on building until the fall/winter.

I'm certainly tempted to upgrade from my i7 920. I wish the nearest MicroCenter wasn't 2.5 hours and 2 states away.

I just upgraded to Sandy last summer. However, that was just a motherboard, CPU, and RAM upgrade. For Haswell, I'm going to spend some more dough and do a full revamp of everything. New case, PSU, consolidate my multiple 1TB drives into a single 3 or 4TB drive, etc. I want to move to a smaller tower, the full ATX chassis is too big.

I've had the same case and PSU since 2005, the 2x1TBs since 2008, and the same optical drives since 2006. They've had a good run.

Desktop: no. My 2500k is still pretty competitive. If I was coming from core i xxx series or before, I'd be interested though.

For a laptop: hells yeah! I'm anxiously waiting for the launch of the new Macbook Pro's and the Macbook Air, as well as PC ultrabooks. If the reports are true, battery life (especially idle) should be significantly better, which is a huge plus! Probably a GT3e equipped machine, but possible just something thin & light with good battery life!

This should have been an option.

It's going to be a while before I have to replace the 3930k in my desktop...

+1

My a8-3820 desktop will hold on, but my C2D 2.0GHZ aluminum MacBook could use a change. My wife's MacBook is still rocking intel GMA 950, I wonder how much an improvement haswell would be....

Pretty disappointing release overall, for desktop users. So no. Possibly, if they come out with an i3 HW NUC unit.
