Just give it a try. You never know. The Apple Store always gets more traffic than the rest of the other places.

Wal-Mart, Best Buy, Target, and etc... carry iPad 2, too.

A friend just showed up at a Best Buy. They won't say how many iPad's they received, but they said it was a "pretty good amount". Probably at least 100-200. Only 2 people in line as of 12:20Pst

Best Buy got 20 in. 5 of each color 16 and 32 wifi only. I missed the cut off by about 3 people. I got there an hour early. I called Target and they had people in line for all of the stock. Wal Mart did not get any at all.

I wasn't able to get a 3G 64, so I just went with a WiFi :\. The cover looked pretty meh when I saw it in person and it didn't seem to remove finger prints like they said, but they don't have screen protectors :\.

Just got out of the store in Oakridge, San Jose.

Crazy, crazy, CRAZY line. But I got mine alright. Both a black and white.

Got to play with the one in the store as well. The back feels different. The weight is different. The device feels different altogether.

As I suspected, general UI interface didn't really feel any faster than iPad 1. Everything almost feels the same. The difference shows when you start to stack multiple apps together and play 3D games and such.

I have no 'need' for one. But I knew from the day Jobs unveiled the original that it was a billion dollar idea and desired one. Imo everyone will have one on their coffee table , kitchen counter and families with teenagers will have more than one.
It can be your daily newspaper, your monthly magazine, your tv guide and also a conversation piece at gatherings, parties. I've seen this first hand at Christmas, everyone wanted to play with one or watch the person trying it out.
I will use it for a ebook reader in a dark setting, where I WANT back lighting VS the Kindle without. And eventually will use its video chat feature with a Ipad I will teach my Mom to use when she is in FL.
So WifI 16gb with cover , eventually, probably this summer.

Just bought my cousin's 32GB 3G w/ Apple cover for $400 so he could get his wife a new one...

I would probably have paid around $600 for a new 16GB one w/ case ($499 + case + taxes) and it wasn't worth $200 to me...the iPad3 is a different story though...

Got my white 32GB WiFi iPad 2 for $550, no waiting in line.

Now to track down a good case for it. I'm not paying Apple $39 for a plastic "smart" cover that leaves the back exposed. Scosche has a white folio case coming out in March; I had the black leather version of the same case for the original iPad and it rocked.

I'm also going to keep my eye open for a cheap original iPad. I dumped mine the day before the iPad 2 announcement, right before second-hand prices plummeted and the market flooded. I think my sweet spot is $200 for a used 16GB WiFi.

I went to the Apple Store in Lone Tree CO, and the line extended outside and around the mall. I decided to check Microcenter since they are also an authorized reseller. They only had the 32G WiFi black in stock. However, they are giving $50 vouchers all the other models they don't have available in store. The ETA is supposedly less than a week. So if you can play the waiting game, you can get $50 off on any model they don't have in store right now.

I'm glad I held out now since I'll bet supplies are strained at this point. It will make avoiding the sense of fake perceived 'need' go away.

My biggest issue with this device is figuring out how it would fit into my day to day routine and unfortunately I don't know of anyone who owns one that I could borrow for a few days. Anyone know what the return policy is? If I know I have 2-4 weeks to decide then maybe I can talk myself into it...

The Apple Store has a 14 day no-restocking fee return policy. Best Buy might. WalMart has a 15 day return policy no restocking. I actually got an iPad 1 after the 2nd gen release announcement from WalMart to see if I'd like it, so I'm going to be returning that next week.

As of right now (6 am EST), WalMart has the 64 GB black wifi in stock online for in-store delivery.

It's pretty much replaced my netbook and most non-heavy laptop usage. The only time I bring out my laptop is if I need to do some encoding or heavier CPU and I/O stuff. Though, honestly, for most of my daily use around the house I could skip the laptop and split the load between the iPad for lightweight stuff and desktop for heavy tasks and serious typing.

hmm i wonder what i could get with my ipad1 3G jailbroken with $30/month unlimited microsim? the latter seems to be worth alot of $$ imo

macbook air totally pwnz ipad in most cases. and i have two already. and macbook pro, and mac pro, and macbook white.

macbook air gets 70% utilization. ipad get mobile use (ie driving kid to pre-primary she uses it, GPS device), 10%. Macbook pro 17" get 20% (WORK and big screen RDP fun).

so realistically the ipad it's just not there yet. not when i have ISPOT and MYWI for anywhere internet for the macbook air.

I will be buying one, but will wait a little while, and maybe pick up a refurbished unit from the Apple store, when they are available. That way, I can get a 32GB model for the normal price of a 16GB. I wouldlike to know if GPS works on a Wifi model, or do you need a 3G model.

Go to the Microcenter on Tamarac, they are giving away $50 vouchers on virtually all iPads 2. GPS only works on 3G models.
