It does EXACTLY what pda/smartphones have been doing for some time now. If anyone valued their time, they'd already have something that can do what the iPhone does.

It's plain dumb and stupid to pay $500/$600 for a "privilege" of obligation to stick with Cingular/att for two years.

How does looking good save you time? And I did, look at the link at the beginning of the thread.

Actually it is not - the fact that you can't load up third party apps makes it an expensive consumer cell phone. If you wanna be productive on the go, get a Treo / Blackberry / Pocket PC phone. Not to mention that without a real keyboard, you won't be using this thing for anything serious.

Looks aren't everything. Some people don't need to have the most expensive/stylish phone out to feel important. For over half the price, I'd take a PDA/smartphone anyday.

I doubt ill buy one. If they would do the free year and a half of service rumor then id consider it depending on the catch.

I will but I'm worried about the 1st Generation aspect of it like the scratching Nano screens etc. Probably wait 1-2 weeks to see what people say then pick one up.

^^^^ Correct, I'd be devastated at the state it'd inevitably get in after owning it for a week, that screen is begging to be scratched into opacity.

Don't forget the invincible keylock; drag your finger across the screen to unlock it? Why that's utterly impossible for something to do in your pocket! Absurd!

Uhh, maybe because you don't keep dead detached fingers in your pocket?

I guess Apple isn't going to do too well with AT'ers. Only 12 people want it out of 62, me being one of them. Besides the price, I don't like how they're making it exclusively to Cingular/ATT. Cingular/ATT service is terrible in my area - pretty much a dead zone. Maybe I'll consider the LG Prada.

I noticed a lot of asian people are crazy about cell phones.
My old nokia with a big plastic shell works just fine.

No thanks. I'm waiting for the LG Shine to hit VZW, hopefully, they won't water it down TOO much.

But if it were at a better price point, I might switch to cingular despite my decent service w/ Verizon. I haven't had much issue other than the fact after 7 years of service, you'd think they cut you some slack on buying new phones. Instead, I get lame offers to renew for more years w/ bottom rung freebie phones. Altho, this is probably common across the board.

you should get a NE2 credit.. up to 100$ of a new phone.

1. Computers have keyboards. My PPC6700 has a keyboard, this thing doesn't except for a virtual one.

2. Computers can install 3rd party software. My PPC6700 has virtual wallets, media streamers, 3rd party movie players, tweaks, cracks, voice-dial software, GPS software, and any number of other games and softwares installed. This can't install 3rd party. The lame-arse excuse jobs used was that he didn't want networks to crash. When was the last time a network crashed because of a PPC? Never.

3. No expandable media. My PPC can take 4GB cards and I can have many and it'll take bigger ones as they come out.

4. No 3G. My data plan is $15/mo for an average speed of 768 down. This thing can't even do half that. What good is an internet phone if you have to wait 3 hours to download a page?

5. No regular GPS, no bluetooth GPS. Mine can add in BT GPS (and I have it).

6. No push email supported, this is *HUGE* for business people

So basically, the iPhone is an underfeatured, overpriced status symbol that tries to be a jack of all trades and fails at everything. Sorry, but I'll keep my 6700. It may not be beautiful, but it's 10x more versitile than this albatross.

Nope.

It looks pretty (like most Apple devices) but it doesn't do anything revolutionary yet still costs far more than the competition (like most Apple devices.) Those that are heavily leveraged into Itunes (and already Cingular customers) might pony up for it. But at its current pricepoint I think they're grossly overestimating people's love for all things Apple. I'll be curious to see how this goes over. The interface is easy to emulate (competitors already were displaying similar interfaces at CES) and the functionality already exists in other smartphones.

OSX is a great platform, but it's really all about Itunes when it comes to Apples hopes for real growth. I'd personally like to see a strong, viable competitor to Itunes which is why I think Microsoft is basically parting ways with Plays-For-Sure. Competiting against Itunes on multiple smaller fronts with numerous partners and vendors just hasn't worked. If Microsoft can get it right this time and make an all-inclusive Itunes competitor that properly leverages and integrates Vista Media Center, the Xbox, Windows Mobile (and even the Zune) then you might start to see the first major beloved patriot in the Itunes armor.
