It will be rough. Both of them critters have been going for quite a long time. It's a shame it can't get another good blast of wind. That valley it's in is a pretty bad place for dust deposition.

Meanwhile, Opportunity's still fairly healthy.
It'll be crazy if one of them is still going when MSL arrives.

It'll be nice when Obama cuts Nasa funding and spends it on immediately-impacting things.

It would be nice to get bums off the street, into some clean clothes, a warm place to stay, and a job. It would be nice to fund cancer & aids research. It would be nice to pay off some national debt, blah blah blah.

Don't get me wrong, I'm a space NUT and I love Nasa. I just think that right now isn't a great time to dump a load of money into it needs to be used elsewhere.

You think those will be solved any time soon? :Q

While it is no small sum of money, and things add up, I think the rovers were designed, launched, and operated with less than $1 billion. Not a relatively bad deal IMO.

What do you mean by "solved"? The prognoses of cancer and AIDS patients have IMMENSELY improved since they've been doing their research.

We haven't "solved" the problem of influenza either, for that matter, but you must admit that we're doing a LOT better compared to the pandemics which used to sweep the nation and kill millions.

Man, lol... I can't help but just have a huge smile reading that stuff. Awesome.

I hope some wind clears Spirits panels!

I can't even imagine what it would be like to be on the teams involved with and controlling them.. I bet those people really are going to cry when either of them eventually dies. :Q

Bah, times are always bad for somebody. If we sit and wait for the idyllic time, then sitting and waiting is all we will ever do.

If I give the Americans credit for one thing, I give you credit for your ambition - you should be glad there are people in power with enough ambition to fund things like this. I hate the way the EU seems more concerned with making everyone's bananas the same size than using it's massive resources to actually do something new and innovative.

/edit: bananas are non-euphemistic in this post...

Supporting NASA also mean more jobs, high tech jobs. Since the US Treasury is making money out of thin air, why not throw some $$ at NASA. Throwing money at bums don't get them off the streets, they just buy more booze and cheap hookers.

Makes me wonder why they didn't create some sort of ... solar panel wiper blade

It's a learning process. NASA will make a better rover next time, if they have a chance.

I was thinking the same thing, lol... Probably harder than it sounds in space.

They were only designed to last for 90 days and it would have added a lot of complexity and weight. They had had some previous failures already on Mars and wanted to KISS

Oh, and about cutting funding for the time being... It's not like there is just a switch you can flip and turn NASA back on. We haven't gone to the moon since the 70s and now look, it's going to take like 15-20 years to get back there (if it ever even happens...) The 20 billion would just get wasted on BS earmarks anyway
