Why? Generalizations are GENERALLY true.

Not when they are wrong to begin with? I'm not even totally arguing with that point... plenty of gamers are indeed weird fat socially inept nerds. BUT I don't know a lot of people that go out and play football or baseball or any 'real' sports they watch all the time. They do however eat 3 dozen wings and drink a gallon of beer every sunday.

I'm just saying watching a game of starcraft played for 100's of thousands of dollars is not different then watching the championship of any other sport.

Doesn't matter what you call it, I can hop online and join 10k other people watching the same video game played professionally by people devoted ot their craft. Just like with conventional sports, the performances can be incredible and the emotions intense.

Lol at the retards in this thread trying to put football/basketball/baseball/soccer/anyrealsport on the same playing field as video games.

This is true of watching anyone do anything. If you don't/didn't play football/baseball/basketball/etc they are incredibly boring to watch. The only eSports I'll watch are for games I've played.

Most people haven't played football, yet it's the most popular sport in the US.

I watch a lot of fighting game tournaments. It's crazy how large it's gotten the past 5 years ever since street fighter 4 revived the genre.

That's a pretty meaningless statement. What % of the population enjoys watching football. I'll bet it's not all that high and I bet it's close to the % of the population that has played on a team at some point in school.

Are you kidding? NFL games are the highst rated shows on tv by far... every year. http://tvbythenumbers.zap2it.com/20...34-of-35-most-watched-shows-this-fall/227726/

Its actually totally ridiculous how popular football is, and how many people do you think have actually played on a team? Hardly anyone in comparison. If you take out really young kids, and only include high school its even fewer. The VAST MAJORITY of people that watch football have never done anything besides flag football in gym class and playing catch.

Apparently there is a market. Lame producers who are not creative sit on their ass and play through video games and post them on youtube to overwhelming success.

he has obviously never been to an nfl game in his life, or any other football game in his life, or watched a football game in a public setting. 1/2 of the crowd there are females, and i'm pretty confident in saying that less than 1% of the females that watch football have ever played it.

I would like to know the BMI of anyone who considers video gaming a sport.

What if it was video game of chess? That counts as a sport because of double negative. Two non-sports equals one true sport.

Put down the mouse and do something with physical activity. You will never regret doing that.

That's obviously a fallacy. No reason you can't be active and play video games. It would be the equivalent of how people used to watch TV. I notice that most of my video game hours are stolen from TV time not outside time.

Always enjoyed watching the Halo team tournaments - something about the gameplay and tactics make for great show and tension. Even the few Halo 4 tournaments were hugely fun to watch, even if playing the game kind of sucked.

I've tried watching COD tournaments but just don't find it as much fun - lots of strategy and skill, but kind of boring.

Certainly not for those games as I do not like any of those games. I do occasionally watch Street Fighter tournaments online though since I actually like that game and find it fun to watch two good players go against each other.

Edit: I would never call it e-sports though

I knew you would pipe in about fighting games

Every so often I watch evo tournaments. I'm interested in fighting games even though I haven't played in years. I use to play TTT and T4 on the PS2 and way back with SFII on the SNES and Mortal Kombat. I even had Mortal Kombat on the Master System!

No. Not at all. Then again, I never really understood the want/need to watch others play any kind of sport. I get it if they are related to you, friends, etc...but otherwise it just baffles me how invested some people get over watching people play.

I used to compete in CS:S and dabbled in some CS:GO. After GO came out and CS:S competitive sports dwindled I got out. I'm not a huge fan of GO and dont have the time to commit to re-learning to game to get back on that competitive level. I did alright in CS:S and won here and there. Had a few server sponsorships and such. My brother got sponsored by ThermalTake Esports in CS:S for awhile on his team. Used to watch it more when I played, havent touched either game in over two months and have only watched a few clips in that time. Still have friends active, some playing professional.

Not too interested in it anymore, life took over and I outgrew it. I dont get the same enjoyment out of the game as I did before and I do not have the time to commit to keep my edge. In fact right after I got out of CS:S my team went professional, shoulda stuck with it for another year!
