in denver and yes! best ice cream on the market. half gallon is still a half gallon.

my sister lived in Brenham Tx where blue bell got started. we toured the plant a few times with my kids when we went down to visit.

Wawa's pretty great, but not so relevant in the topic of icecream. TurkeyHill's kinda meh. Enjoyable enough, but hard to get excited over it. It's just a mid tier brand.

Blue Bell is not even mid tier. It's bottom tier. I would rather eat store generic brand ice cream over Blue Bell. They try to fool people and market their ice cream as high end and made the old fashioned way. Trader Joe's store brand ice cream is much better than Blue Bell. There's a reason Blue Bell haven't spread to the entire US after all these years. It sucks.

I've never had Blue Bell but I probably agree. TJ's is really freaking good, and Hood is my usual go-to.

I recently had Talenti and I thought it was absolutely awful. I did have the reduced-sugar version (I had a coupon for it) so maybe that was why, but it was really grainy.

Talenti used to be pretty decent until Unilever bought them in Dec. 2014. I used to like the Salted Caramel gelato. But Unilever changed something and now Talenti is absolute crap. Like you said, it tastes grainy. And terrible. I don't buy Talenti now even when it's on buy 1 get 1 sale. And same thing with Ben and Jerry's. I don't buy Ben and Jerry's either because Unilever ruined it too.

Ah, I didn't know that. I don't know how they can still call it gelato when it tastes like you're eating wet sand. Just found this on their website:

Ben and Jerry's still tastes good to me, though. I only buy it when I have a coupon. I may have to start getting ice cream at the local family farm place - they have really awesome stuff.

If you are in Madison, WI you can get Chocolate House ice cream and maybe Schweppes ice cream (don't know if Scheppes f'ed with the recipe, hence the maybe) and be happy. If in Los Angeles, you can get Saffron and Rose ice cream and be happy. As for the rest of the country, pity.
