lol yep, makes sense. I usually check task manager anyway but was only checking the analyser this time. Right now in the analyzer it says 80MB (not even an hour ago it was 59MB) and in task manager it says 97MB!

So I think there is multiple leaks here, one that is not a true leak, but just a neglecting of deallocating memory. Maybe it only get's deallocated at close or something, when really it should happen when a tab is closed. Then there's probably one where points are lost or what not.

Guess instead of complaining, we should all be looking at the source code to try to find these. That's the beauty of open source.

Yea, I'm not sure what to make of that. I don't care about 10mb if it doesn't increase much over that, but I'm curious about the accounting error.

Did you even look at it? The address bar, back button, and forward button only apply to the contents of the current tab. Logically, they belong INSIDE the current tab.

This is why people like my mother are too confused to try opening multiple tabs.

I think you misunderstood mine (and other's) complaint. It has nothing to do with the forward and back button...

Well, in your picture, you indicate that tabs belong directly above the page content. I think that's where the address bar and nav buttons belong. Tabs belong one level higher. I agree that IE9 does it wrong by putting them all on the same horizontal space.

one thing i wish i can do is directionally specify which tabs i'd like to close rather than just "close all other tabs". For example, close tabs to the right of this one, or close tabs to the left of this one. i don't see that in either browser.

Recent scientific anaysis also shows the lower the IQ the more self hatred one possesses. Although, as you know, one never reaches zero.

ahh you're using chrome. i'd consider chrome (and not firefox or IE9), but i am worried about security, i use noscript and block alot of scripts and firewall a lot of sites out, does chrome provide that? if so i'd be inclined to switch (maybe).

IE9 made Find In Page much more frustrating. CTRL+F will find what you type but, as usual, it is at the bottom of the screen and the following text is not visible so you can't tell if that instance of the queried term is the one you were looking for. With IE8, you could Page Down and see then press enter to jump to the next and repeat until you found the one you were looking for. In IE9, Page Down does not work when the search bar has focus. WHY?!

Do I still use Internet Explorer? Yes indeed, 5 days a week. IE is still the corporate standard and many, if not all, of the front end web applications I use day to day were designed for and work best in IE.

I would consider IE if the UI wasent a POS.

Even then... firefox is great now, recovers well from crashes, fast enough, customizable to the max. MS always finds a way to fuck things up and leave you thinking "why dosent it work this way ugh who made this BS"

I used IE until I was "invited to improve" IE around Feb 2009, IE7 was great on XP. IE8 was a total POS on XP, pages rendered incorrectly, slow as dirt, I could go on & on, but really there's no need.

MS screwed IE, plain & simple. IE8 & Vista must have been born from the same lab, they both were overkill, and IE8 took a third of the screen with multiple toolbars.

Since June 2009, I started using FF 3.5RC & haven't really looked back. Although FF is still my default browser, I'm using Google Chrome more & more every day. It's fast as hell, plus there's a version of Adblock Plus for it.

As far as IE goes, it really doesn't matter, now that I've found a driver for my Kodak AIO printer for Ubuntu/Mint. I don't need Windows any longer, and won't be paying the M$ tax every 3 years just to have the "latest" Windows & IE. Not to mention the added expense of AV protection.

I've kicked IE to the curb, where it belongs.

I still use it on occasion, but only at work where I sometimes have to access ancient IE-only sites or use machines without another browser installed.

On my own machine, I use Firefox or occasionally Chrome. I've tried all versions of IE at one time or another, as well as Opera, Safari, Camino, even Lynx (which is a damn good text-based browser). I still prefer Firefox.

Firefox sucks just as much as IE. It's been full of memory leaks since day 1. If I leave my browser open for more than a day with one or two tabs open it will be using >1gb memory. This is with no extensions.

pretty much this. however, i have to say that IE9 is pretty nice looking, though i do love the new firefox 4/5 ui.
