I am 23 and I have an AS degree, which I got when I was 21. I'll have a BS before I turn 25. My parents don't support me at all. I should have a teaching job before I turn 25 too. Does that count?

I just turned 25, but I've been paying my own way for 4 years. My parents paid the balance of my tuition that my scholarships didn't cover while I was in school (actually, I paid for a year of my schooling when I lost a scholarship...that hurt), but other than that, I've paid for just about everything since I was 17. Employed since I was 15.

yes. I'm turning 23 in two weeks; I graduated in spring of '03, got my first real job by the end of that summer, and am currently living in an apartment a few miles away from my parents.

same for my 25 year-old sister. we both got our own places within a year of graduation, though my parents in no way forced either of us to move-out, and they didn't expect us to pay rent or anything when we were living at home.

I don't see what the big deal is -- I hate it when people look down on people who had their parents pay for their degree and support them financially while they were in school.

My parents didn't pay my tuition, but neither did I. They did, however, pay for rent and give me money for my books every semester while I was in college. I'm not ashamed and don't see why someone should be.

Not yet, but I will fall into that category in the next few months. I just graduated but I'm looking for my first real job. Unless the only thing I find is something local that doesn't pay as much as I'd like or need, I'll be moved out on my own with a few months. I'll be 22 in August.

I don't pay my own way yet. I still use their car and house, but im only 17. Once im out on my own i have to pay for everything (next year in college) I've already joined the military so that will take care of it.

I'm 21 going to school full time year round, have a full and part time job to pay for it...yeah I have no life.

And to clarify, paying my own tution, my own books, lab fees, rent, utilities, food, everything.

Other than some scholarships, loans, and small jobs, my parents paid my way through college (public U). I received a new car for graduation and was self-sufficient by the time I WAS 25. Certainly would have been much harder without my parents help during school. It was a smart investment for my parents

Well, let me tell you, it's not easy at all. Actually it's rather hard, but hey, my parents can't financially help me out but that's ok. I not mad or upset that a lot of other people my age have an easier ride. I do however get upset when my cousin who can barely write a thank you letter (it's really really sad actually) gets into a nice private school because mother and father are able to shell out the $$.

i'm only 18 but I alread know that my parents will pay my way through school, give me spending money, buy me a car, and probably give me a nice pile of money to get started, and it's not something I'm ashamed of either. I think I'm a financially responsible person, but only time will tell if that's true. So my parents have money... sue me (or them)

Do people look down on grown children with trust funds? I don't think society does, as long as you are a contributing member of society, i.e. in school or have full-time employment. If your parents help you out who cares?

I'm now 26 but I was paying my own way with a few college degrees when I was under 25.

You must be a math major or something.

So, if it turns out to be closer to .013%, do I get flamed?

I'm < 25 with a degree but I'm not paying my own way. I'm currently in medical school and have more student loans + help from parents.
