there used to be, maybe 4 really good teams each year. All of them straight to the final four each year.

Ugh, UCONN basketball. One of the few things that puts us on the map. I live 15 minutes from the main campus, and I worked on a website for Auriemma's restaurant in one of the casinos.

People in this area cared about their teams maybe 10-15 years ago. Now, no one gives a damn.

At the major college I live near, the last women's game was attended by about 20 college students. Guess they don't take the womens game all that seriously, and this is a relatively successful program. The only people that go to games are pretty old, and pretty young, not that much in-between. As much as I can admire the skill from these young ladies, the competition is not that good, and seems like it gets more watered down each year. So, Gino, whine all you want, doesn't make anyone like women's basketball any more.

also, part of the reason women's sports aren't as popular is because they aren't hyped and broadcast much at all compared to the mens.

watching the best of the best compete./rooting for your country is slightly different then watching 1 team steamroll everyone, but yes they aren't hyped as much. however even if they got equal hyping i still don't think people would watch as they are slower, less physical and generally more boring to watch. but then again i hardly watch mens sports

I would also say the publics requirement for the absolute best performing athletes. Men are going to provide that nearly every time. You also see this between college and pro football. The "public" will watch a Patriot\Bears game at a rate 50% higher than an SEC championship game featuring a heisman trophy candidate.

Women's VBall is a bad example. Most men watch that due to the uniforms (beach or indoors).

As for the OP, the record is impressive. No doubt about that. UConn is such a machine now it will be hard to stop. They will just consistently get the best of the best every single year. There is a HUGE disparity in the ability among women bball players too. Its not like mens' college where there are dozens and dozens of players that are great.

With the record broken, I don't want to hear about it again until it ends.
NOBODY cares. Just like when ESPN tries to ram WNBA crap down your throat because they are covering a few games. Or they feel OBLIDGED to tell you all about the women's NCAA tourney. I'm not being sexist hear, but nobody cares.
