No one in New England gives a crap about any college sports, we have pro teams.

Stephen King loves women's basketball. He's all gay for Uconn women's basketball.

:hmm:

...that doesn't make any sense.

But this leads to the inevitable question does the coverage drive interest or does interest drive coverage? I suspect it is the latter.

it's the hotness. face it: we're a superficial world, driven by stereotypes and meaningless crud. Women's tennis is rather popular b/c they are mostly hotties (these days, anyway). same with swimming, figure skating, etc...

women's volleyball? also beach volleyball? hell yes! do men even play those sports? :hmm:

no one cares about women's basketball, golf, softball b/c they are mostly bull dikes.

sad but true. :\

you know, I have to agree, I would rather watch mens college bb than womens. the only time I might watch a bit of the women's play is during their NCAA tourney.

still, they have an impressive record going, not to be minimized.

when I was in school, as part of the student fan club, part of the requirements for getting good seats at Bball games was to attend a handful of lower tier sports--like women's bball. Now, our team at the time was pretty good, but when you go to those games, the arena is never more than 20% full, and 90% of that crowd is young girls' basketball leagues from around the county. And other kids. They are brought there as a field trip/training/outreach or something. Very few people seem to go to women's basketball games willingly.

...except Stephen King.

That may explain why some men and a certain segment of women watch some womens sports. The question always posed by supporters of more coverage of things like womens college basketball, softball, rowing, etc along with the few professional leagues like WNBA and soccer is that the only thing preventing these activities from becomming as commercially successful as mens sports is the lack of coverage. I maintain that if the fan base grew large enough the coverage would follow. For example there has been an emphasis on covering soccer in the US for over a decade but it has yet to breakout as a sport equivilent to professional football, basketball, or baseball in the US despite the heightened coverage.

They are a some cute girls in golf and softball albeit few and far between.

I go through a weird array of emotions when I watch women's billiards for example. It's great when a hotty is leaning over the table to bang some balls but the sport is usually dominated by butch looking man-girls.

lol, don't act like there aren't any women out there who could whip your butt athletically.

there are definitely ones that could beat my ass but i'm not a professional athlete. i can't think of any sport that a top female athlete could best a top male athlete.

there is no competition in women's basketball.

there used to be, maybe 4 really good teams each year. All of them straight to the final four each year.

now it's 2 teams. ....maybe 1 team?

You'd never see all the top men players flock to the same school because some of them would have to ride the pine. And they would miss the opportunity to be the star on another team, possibly leading to a lucrative pro contract.

The women don't really have that opportunity, so they go to UConn which is the pinnacle of women's basketball. That's the best of the opportunities available.

Still doesn't mean that most people don't give a shit. At NC State, they practically had to beg people to come watch womens' sports. In fact, the only way to build up enough points to get tickets for certain mens basketball/football games, you had to go sit through shitty-ass women's indoor volleyball/basketball/etc. and "show your support" to get your name on the list.

the only reason anyone knows about this is because espn can't shut up about it. hey, 4 letter network: no one gives a damn

ESPN spends way too much time pretending to be a real news organization. They need to stick to sports, and actually they spend way too much time analyzing sports. They should just play the damn games.

How are they breaking a men's record? It's not like this is the triple jump or a marathon or whatever where the measurement is time or distance and is the same for both. Their win streak came playing against other women, so all they've been doing is extending the record for women's basketball. The only way the UCLA record can be broken is if another men's team does it.

Baylor is good too but yeah that's about it.

It really depends on the sport. For example, women's volleyball is fast paced and just as fun (if not better) than the men's. Women's hoops just seems like watching a bad high school team or bad playground pickup games, I can't watch that.

I love women's volleyball.

If you have to be persuaded to go watch a women's volleyball game you don't enjoy nice legs/butts in tight pants.

I suspect that naked women wrestling will probably catch my interest and will be totally watchable...
