Was all set to buy a P180 when I noticed it has no power supply. I noticed Frys has an Antec Truepower 480 for $50 but it seems a lot of peeps here dont like that psu. I'm really hesitant to spend $150 on a case/psu (spent 70 on my current Sonata 2 years ago)... Is there anything else out there thats really quiet and cheaper?

Seasonic S12 and Enermax Liberty both have cables that will fit. People don't like the TruePower 2 and SmartPowers, Neopowers because they have Fuhjyyu caps, that will buldge and eventually kill the PSU after a year or two.

Depends on what you're putting in it, i think you're going to have to look at a cheaper case and a 450W Fortron ($52).

I'd recommend that you check out my Rosewill thread here for some good cases at low cost. Either one of those new Rosewill cases or the new Antec Solo should do OK. Choose the components you put inside carefully and they should be quiet enough. On the Antec, don't use the bungee cord HDD suspensions as your HDDs can slide out - they made the cords stronger so they won't break as in the P150, but now they are slippery. Use the tray mounts with the rubber isolators instead - good that they offer both HDD mounting methods.
. For a PSU I recommend either the Enhance ENP-5140GH or -5150GH. Those are my current recommendations for anything less than a SLI system. Look the PSUs up on Froogle and go to eWiz via the link there. It'll save you a buck or so over going direct to eWiz.

Ok, be honest with us. Exactly how much do you get paid for every Rosewill case you help sell? I can't find a single case thread without you pimping Rosewill..lol.

I knew the cases before Rosewill ever got their hands on them. They are excellent basic designs - many way more expensive cases don't do nearly as well on functionality. Plus they don't look bad and don't cost much. I don't see how anyone can argue with that.

I don't have any econimic interest in anything I recommend (unless I'm selling it myself in the For Sale/Trade section here - but I'd have recommended it even if I wasn't selling it). I'll expect you to let me know if you find anything of equal or better functionality in the price range. If I agree, I'll be recommending that too.

My basic criteria (in no particular order):
- 0.8mm SECC at least - I want the case to feel solid.
- Indirect path(s) for noise at the front.
- Mostly toolless.
- At least a 12cm fan mounting at the rear (which is most important) and some active cooling for the HDD bays.
- Some noise isolation for the HDDs (rubber bushings, etc.)
- Doesn't look like a steaming pile... (can be waived if the basic design is good enough)

What say you there, L-L?

So here's my current list of budget cases.

These are all in the same family: Compucase/HEC 6A19 series, Antec SLK3000-B (and the earlier SLK3700-AMB which is discontinued - the 3000 is basically a black 3700 w/o the PSU), Rosewill R6Axx series (the Tt Tsunami is the same thing in aluminum, but you couldn't call it "budget").
Same family: Yeong Yang YY-560x series, Rosewill R560x series, (Tt SViking and maybe others are also in the family but cost more).
Same family: Evercase 52x2 series, 4x02 series, AMS 4292 series. The rubber bushings for the HDD racks generally don't come standard due to resellers that don't understand the products they carry  , but are available direct from Evercase (they charge excessive shipping for only one or two sets to discourage direct orders - I have some spare sets if you know anyone in need and my shipping is relatively cheap).

I'm just messing with you. Just every thread I open about cases I see you in them

I've not used Rosewill personally. So I couldn't comment.

I do have a P180B though and it is WELL worth the money if you use Yate Loon fan's and a fan controller. My PC is silent from more than 15" away. It's at my feet and I can't hear it. Glad my Rheobus has red and blue lights..that way I know it's still on

I picked up a NeoHE 550 and it's a great little PSU. Antec is starting to get a poor rep for their PSU, but the NeoHE is the one that hasn't suffered from QA problems as far as I can tell. All of the reviews have been good.

What makes the NeoHE 550W a "little" PSU? I thought it was standard ATX size....

thanks for the comments guys. I went to Frys to look at the P180 and they were out of them so I got a rain check. Now I'll have some time to think. Those Rosewill cases are impressively cheap so I'll have a look at them.

FYI, I'll be putting a Core 2 Duo E6400 (moderately overclocked) in it with a 7600GT and 3 hard drives.

And take a look at the Coolermaster Mystique 632 at the CM site. It's a bit pricey and not on many online reseller's shelves yet, but I think it looks nice and has decent characteristics. About all it lacks from my list is some HDD isolation. Plus you won't see it at your friends' houses - at least for a while... I have a thread here on it with a link - just search on Mystique and you'll find.

Didn't come with a PSU???
All good cases don't come with a PSU and the ones that do are normally crap.

IMO its always better to get the PSU seperate from the case.
but then again its just my opinion!

yeah I know but I'm trying not to spend too much on this new pc and I figured the P180 was already quite expensive so it must have a psu. I've been using a Sonata (with the psu it came with) for two years and its been pretty good.

Yeah, Antec PSUs hadn't yet earned an unsavory rep for their PSUs when the Sonata first came out.

I've used both the Neo550 and TPII 430 (while the Neo550 was RMA'd for two months waiting on Antec to get the fixed ones) with my P180. Both had plenty of length for the cabling. Since Antec "strongly recommends" that you use their Phantom, NeoHE or TruePower series, I suspect any from those series should have the proper cable lengths. Not sure about the smartpowers though.

It's just for now, since i'm upgrading with the intel retail edge program even when that is over, it probabyl won't get to my house until around dec. early jan. like it always is. but since the p180 was on sale at Fry's and i been looking at it for a while i just went ahead and bought it. gona probably drop my old system in there for a few months until i get upgrades.

Even my older 460W Seasonic's cables reach... of course it depends on where the power connections are. If your 24-pin is at the top side of the mobo then you might have some trouble. Mine is on the right edge.
