Why? HALO!!!!

Halo kicks ass, almost everyone knows that. What not everyone knows is how Halo became an Xbox exclusive. Bungie was a platform semi-independent game developer who was working on Halo for the PC. They have released many high profile games in the past that did very well (The Marathon series, Myth 1,2), and Microsoft saw a chance. They bought Bungie out, and now Halo became an Xbox exclusive.

THAT REALLY PISSES ME OFF!

I have this funny feeling the Xbox hardware isn't the only setup cpable of making Halo look beautiful. On my 1.2ghz thunderbird system with a gf3 Ti 200, I bet I could crank up the settings pretty high. And if Halo had been a PC release, we could've had online play right out of the box! ARGHHH!

Ok, that's better. I'm all ranted out now. If Microsoft thinks I'm going to pay them 300$ for another computer just to play their game that they basically stole from us, they're wrong.

Think about it, at first Halo was supposed to be a mac only game. What idiots, then Microsoft bought them and smacked some sense into them, I know it was not good sense but it was at least better then what they had before.

How did you decide this? It's amazing that the supposedly "technologically educated" people of AT make such arbitrary decisions. People love to compare the specs of the 3 systems forgetting the differences in architecture, just look at clockspeeds.

it'll most likely be 2h 02, most likely about a year.

I think its a great strategy on their part.

Consoles sell way more games then pc's, and they are in the game business now so that is where their focus should be.

They can keep some exclusives themselves and maybe do 6-12 month exclusives on the console or atleast bring those games to the pc around the same time which shouldn't affect pc sales to much.

I would think a halo type game belongs on the pc myself, but I bet you microsoft will make more cash off properly marketed xbox ports of their games.


I have not been able to touch halo yet but it sounds like a fun game, but in order to make launch I have read they had to cut corners. It would be cool to get a pc version that is touched up but the graphics won't be as good unless it comes out a year from now I bet.

And bungie's staff is so small I wonder if they should be doing that or working on a touched up sequel which could take them 2 years? Because of that I have this wierd feeling plans for anything but a port to the pc is out of the question.

Halo wasn't supposed to be Mac only. It was either going to be a Mac/PC release at the same time, or a Mac release first followed by the PC version a few months later. Bungie's always been pretty Mac friendly. Wasn't Marathon a Mac-only game? Anyway, it's a shame MS had to take away the Mac's killer app. I'm not bitter, it's just capitalism.

I thought this was the case too, but a few weeks ago, I was scouring the old pc software section of a secondhand store, and I found marathon infinity for Pc. Weird stuff.

And if Microsoft actually brings Halo to PC 2nd quarter next year, I'll eat my words.

I have played both game cube and xbox a lot recently, the xbox kicks the GCs ass. The gc's shadow rendering and everyting is suck, besides, who wants a console with all pokemon games

Halo for the PC has no chance of making it to market till Q4 '02. Its a AAA title, with lots of hype, MS won't put it on the shelves for the PC until the next holiday season... Its not like Bungie will have it ready for the PC till then anyways, yeah porting from Xbox is easier than porting from say the PS2, but its still going to take 6 months + tweaking + bug squashing to port it.

GameCube would probably have problems with Halo because of the large levels. As it is, Halo levels must be copied to the hard drive for the X-Box and then loaded into memory pieces at a time. It would be possible to load it on GameCube but it would result in long load times in the middle of a level.

Additionally, since Halo is a Microsoft made title (Bungie is owned by Microsoft) you will most likely never ever see Halo for the GameCube so this discussion is somewhat moot.
