Wow, you have the 8kha+, and I have the 8k7a+ - other than that, our configuration is exactly the same. Interesting. Do you have your hard drive on the Raid controller? I have the AMD761 chipset, and I think you have a kt133a?? Whichever it is, I know you have a different FSB chip than I do. I think I'm seeing a pattern here: everyone who has these errors has a HPT raid controller. hmmm.
And - I have no clue why XP's registry backups are so large. Sorry

EDIT: actually, you have the KT266a chip.

<< My question is when I use to run Win2000 I was able just to back up my registry on 1 floppy. I noticed however in XP the smallest backup I can make is like 15+ megs which is alot of floppys. It was so easy with Win2000 using the backup disk to fix my registry. >>

Exactly how were you creating the Registry Backup in W2K. Where you using backup to create a ERD??? If you the registry wasn't copied to the 3-1/2 in.. The registry backup is stored in %systemroot%\Repair\Regback. The same applies for XP.

A 15MB Registry is not that big, and it's not any bigger than it would have been in W2K. Registry size has more to do with installed software than what version of Windows you're running.

I cant remember because its been awhile since I ran a backup for win 2000. All I know is I was able to click on BackUp Wizard and I thought I was backing up my Regsitry. It would all fit on a floppy.

I just tried doing the same thing in Win XP and I backed up my System State? Is that the correct thing incase I get a registry error? It was 345 Megs! If some could just tell me what file/s I need to back up for safe keeping would be great. I guess if its bigger then a floppy I can just burn it to a CD and boot from the CD if I need to access it correct?

BTW..Psychoholic yea thats what i was making a ERD, but dont see the same option in XP?

Thanks!!

While we're on this topic, does anybody know of any good shareware/freeware proggie that cleans out the registry for WinXP. I have found plenty of programs for this, just wondering if anyone has found one program to be better than others?

Thanx in Advance.
