That's pretty quick.

One of the posters above mentioned this might discourage them from releasing for PC in future - because it is easy for gamers to get a refund now if they don't like your game.

You make it sound like the PC gaming world said "meh I don't like this game I want my money back." Don't make this out to be gaming community's fault.

^ that, that's the message many companies might be getting, I know EA is getting that message and EA will cut off PC platform of that particular game or franchise in the future without hesitation.

You do know that EA was one of the first to offer digital distribution game refunds through its games on Origin, right?

Publishers are releasing games on PC in the first place because there's money to be made. The only reason they would stop putting them on PC is if they're not making any money. They can still make plenty of money if they put a proper amount of quality control into their games, they do it already on consoles, and they've lived with people being able to return console games to retail since the industry's inception. So I don't see how this would discourage releasing games on PC to begin with.

Batman is one reason why I might do console gaming for now and the future instead of PC. I don't want to be a second class citizen.

You make a lot of decisions based on single points of evidence.

That's pretty awful.

Steam refunds can go one of two way with companies;

1. You're going to see companies do scummy things like put in non refundable items in pre-orders(online cash, items etc.) so you cant get a refund because its consumed on purchase.

2. Much better quality control now that developers/publishers actually have a risk of everything backfiring if its a disaster.

Developers/publishers for decades have already had to deal with quality control regulations, Microsoft and Sony don't want the public relations disaster of a shit console titles and they've had explicit QA policies for years.

Steam implementing refunds is the best thing to have happened to gaming in years, its puts us on par with Microsoft/Sony quality control standards just without an explicit QA policy because refunds are enough of a risk.

You're giving Valve way too much credit here. They were practically FORCED into providing refunds by their competitors, rather than out of the goodness of their hearts.

Origin had been providing refunds for almost two years on EA titles I believe, and GoG has a generous refund policy as well. The Witcher 3 in particular likely forced Valve to accept refunds because it sold more on GoG than it did on Steam despite the massive difference in user base.

It's time that Valve's monopolization of digital PC gaming came to an end. The more competition from GoG Galaxy and Origin the better..

The Steam refund policy couldn't have shown up at a more perfect time,.. all though late (they did it because they got sued, they really don't give a shit about you).

I hope this discourages publishers from releasing unfinished crap going forward. Because the customers sure as hell aren't going to do anything about it.

Are you somehow thinking that there is no such thing as a horrible and buggy console game? Because you are in for a surprise if so.

It's not even close to the same thing and you know it. There are no drivers to install and figure out which ones work best and no problems with the OS tossing out errors. There are lots more small things on the PC that often annoy me, but just don't occur on the consoles. It doesn't make me stop buying PC games though. I'm just not tied to PC as my only platform.

This isn't a buggy game anyhow. It's a game that is missing proper textures and effects and from the sound of it hogs memory for no reason.

So you are just going to ignore the multiple reports of crashes and issues on the console versions to try to make your point?

Making a point at all costs is the in thing man.

I have a PS4, it's got some good games, but the load times holy frig. Bloodborne aged me 10 years in load screens.

Lol...it's no different than when everyone floods to the Internet to say the game crashes in their PC and a million people don't have that happen. You are talking around the point anyway. It's much more trouble free on a console, that's just how it is. There just less stuff for the end user to deal with. Sometimes that's a good thing.

The game is good and actually at this point better on a ps4. I don't care about people being elitist saying I need to wait for PC or I shouldn't give money to a company that screwed up the PC game. I don't care about that honestly. I'm willing to buy console games if that's the better option for me.

No one is saying console games never have technical issues or bugs, it's just that PC games consistently have more. So if someone wants to switch to a console for better odds of avoiding such issues, I'd say it's a very sound idea.

We're talking about THIS game. Driver issues are not the problem here and the game has issues across the board. He's already pointed out that his need to play the game outweighs his self esteem. I don't care, but to throw everything in as truth when video drivers are barely an issue for anyone not using a $500 video card that still has crap drivers is biased. It's the most played out inane argument that keeps coming up. I've never seen video driver issues in a game since the 3DFX days.
I don't want to put words in his mouth, but he seems to be talking about video drivers and other bugs as a general annoyance with the platform. This games horrible port, and the fact that it's becoming more common might just be the final straw.

The whole point was someone saying you should feel bad if you returned the PC version to get the console version. Why? Company makes its money anyway. WB is huge its not a small start up that we are talking about.

They made some bad decisions giving a third party the go ahead to port it and then they didn't seem to review or test it, just released it.

If it runs better on console, oh well. It's not the end of the PC world. Pc has been here and always will be no matter how many consoles are out. People are talking like this is it, the nail in the coffin for development of PC games. Look at witcher 3, excellent game and it has some bugs, but nothing as bad as arkham knight turned out.

There has been a trend to release games like this lately, its happened on consoles too. Rush it out, offer a huge patch day one.

The other point is console is plug and play, its just that a convenience.

Has anyone actually speculated on the issue causing the problems? Considering all of the talk about stuttering I'm almost wondering if it is some sort of PCI Express bottleneck.

Yeah but here's the problem. People here say we are stupid if we buy the game on console when the PC version is bad. I don't care what platform it's on. I want the game, it is a really good game.

Oh there are. Watchdog for the PS3 was unplayable, had a bug that crash just as your about to pass the first tutorial mission which was later patch. I didn't really have to do anything until the patch was downloaded and it was fix.

Thing is like others have pointed out it happen far less than on PC. I don't want to turn this into a "versus" thread because it will get lock and don't want to do that disservice to the OP.

However I will say this, maybe I'm just at the point where I don't want to deal with the hassle anymore. What the first thing anyone does when they buy a PC game?

Here are the step in order:

Prior to step one: Make sure you disable UAC and make sure your AV and AM allow games to be download and install.

1. Once downloaded and installed, check online to see if there is any patches. Ask on forum if any mod is recommend before starting.
2. Once in game, run benchmark
3. Go to graphic settings
4. Change the default mouse and keyboard input
5. Go online but better not forget your Origin, Uplay, etc... account if the game require it.

Basically you have to do a lot of stuff on a consistent basis for every game to get optimal performance, something that you never really ever have to do with console.

The stuttering is more likely to be caused by some sort of inefficient memory handling algorithm that affect certain setups rather than a PCI-E bottleneck.

Not everyone was affected by stuttering, just like everyone didn't have a massive memory leak. I haven't had either. Game played smooth for me, even though the frame rate was nowhere near what it should be given my hardware.

The game code is really messed up on PC. It's missing effects, has lower resolution textures than console, had problems with memory hogging, multi gpu setups are not functioning correctly. Stuff like that.

You really think horrible ports are becoming more common? I don't think so.

In the 360/PS3 days you would have been right, but now that current gen is here, I think port quality has improved a lot as the baseline is now much higher.. The PC version is still usually the best version for multiplatform games.

AC Unity, DAI, Witcher 3 etcetera are all good examples of how the PC version is much better than the console versions..

I don't care to argue about PC ports being worse now or not, but why would you choose that disaster AC Unity as a good example?

Unity was an absolute mess on PC when it released. The others are good examples though b

You have a 980 though. Maybe you need (real) 4 GB to avoid the stuttering?

I haven't seen any benchmarks on vram/memory usage so it's hard to tell.
