Arma 2 hates my surroundview system?

So I have been playing Deus Ex Human Revolution in surround with my 570 sli.

Game runs buttery smooth totally maxed out - and is very fun too.

I am about six or seven hours into the game.

Yesterday my brother got me ARMA2 because he wants me to play the Day-Z mod.. I have it and the expansions download on steam while I go out with the wife.

I turn on my computer today and if I try to play any game in surroundview it chugs and chops with sound looping.

I can play in SLI on a single monitor and used tools to verify that SLI was working correctly but I cannot play a game in surround view.

Finally after two hours of checking connections and messing with my system I use system restore and go back to a point before installing ARMA2... the system runs fine.

Anyone have a similar experience with ARMA2?

I have ARMA2 running fine in SLI surround. SLI does nothing for the game but it was originally built for BF3.

What? SLI works fine with arma 2.

OP..upgrade the game with beta patches yet? They fix lots of stuff.

Arma 2 runs fine on my quadfire system but if you want to go 3 screen you'll need a very powerful CPU and lots of video memory and make sure you limit view distance in settings. It's THE most demanding PC game so drop your settings (AA, disable HT, Drop view distance to below 4000 metres or below 2000 metres on Chernarus and see how you go. I haven't gone Eyefinity with this game because I'm CPU bound at 1920/1200 and nearly GPU bounds with 2 x 6990's. Also make sure you have lastest patches installed. I reckon you'll be really struggling with surround with 'just' 2 570's especially re:video memory. The game also streams from the HD so you'll want at least one SSD with the game on (ideally 1 for game one for OS).

I think I have confused some of you. I downloaded the game in steam so I don't think any beta patches are applied but probably all official patches.

My issue is not running ARMA2 in surroundview - I have never even launched the game. After installing it, I could no longer run ANYTHING in surroundview without issues. After a rollback to prior to the game installation everything is fixed.

Essentially there is something with the installation that causes my PC serious issues.

The game is not good enough to be worth that much hassle IMO. I have two hd in RAID 0. If that isn't enough to run the game then I will play something written better.

And my cat is brown.

To the point - I really don't see how ArmA could have done that. I've played at least a thousand hours of that game and have been knee-deep in mods and addons, but never have I experienced such a thing, nor have I seen it on the ArmA forum.
The game has lots of technical issues and oddities, but that's a new one. The game had some CfX/SLI issues before the expantion came out, but that's fixed now. I myself use a crossfire setup. ArmA additionally installs Battleye anti-cheat and nothing else I think - maybe there is some weird conflict there, but I just find it highly unlikely.

OP:Unfortunately as it's a spin off of real life virtual battlefield software used by US Marines and many others, the learning curve is steeper than K2 and most people aren't capable of digesting much more than COD. Everything is independent of you. A real world that exists whether or not you do. BUT it took me 3 years and countless upgrades plus thousands of hours to become a top 10 player on the most competitive server, now full of annoying Dayz noobz. Play BF3 you'll be happier there. Infant. Arma 2 is the most sublime and beautiful experience in the editor or in warfare multiplayer. 90% of people's hardware won't run it and make it look good (e.g. yours) and 99% of people lose patience when games get a bit too close to real life and are more complex than a game of chess (you again) and AI can and do flank and kill them etc.
Keep it simple stupid!

I'd be curious if Steam only installed the game. Or, if there was something else in the install (Dx11 update, .net update, for example) that buggered your system?

@Jacky60

I am unsure what exactly your rant is about but it is definitely off topic from my thread.

My statement about playing a game written better, had NOTHING to do with the gameplay at all.

I can set my view distance to an incredible distance on Skyrim or Fallout3 and those games are hardly coded well themselves but I have no issues with being CPU bound. The game itself (ARMA2) is not optimized well at all. I think the fact that it is based on VBS only contributes to this fact, the government fail to do anything efficiently and I doubt the creators of VBS cared about framerates.

@Tulx

It most definitely DID do this to my machine. I am glad that you had no issues with the game, however I did. However unlikely you think it is because your experience of the game went differently, mine was exactly as posted.

Install ARMA2 through steam, leave computer and go out, return to computer and shut down. Next morning nothing works in SLI. I reinstall drivers, reseat videocards and ram, uninstall and reinstall Deus Ex HR (the game I was originally trying to play), check other games. Finally decide to rollback to the point exactly prior to installation of ARMA.

Boom - everything works perfectly again.

For whatever reason the installation of the game did not play nice with my system. Whether it was from the primary installation or some update stringed along with it - it was definitely from ARMA 2.

@3dvagabond

I had a similar thought, but my DX11 should be up to date especially when compared to a 2009 release.
