This game is a massive advancement on arma 2. Its a lot more stable in alpha form than arma 2 was on release and it runs a lot better. Its still a rig eater but graphically the game is pretty impressive. But its the new stances and animations that really make a difference. In combat the ability to minimise exposure makes a lot of sense and we are finding ourselves using cover a lot more because we can.

Organised games in this thing are awesome. We will be running a few more trainings on how to play the game in a team before we go back to private playing I suspect. So far at least its been a great few days of nonstop play and the server is very busy.

Popular mods are already coming out and all is looking good. This will definitely be my most played game of this year. Only problem is its on steam, which will mean it tells me how many hours I spend playing it. I think I would rather not know!

I could care less about graphics. A little bit of an update and I'm happy. You can always tell the people who actually have some experience with ArmA vs. those who don't.

What I'm majorly concerned about is AI; both friendly and enemy. Easily the weakest part of the game in ArmA 2. Mods made it a little better, but your team can really put the SPECIAL in Special forces sometimes, and the enemy AI is totally hit or miss.

If they can straighten that out, especially enemy AI and reaction time, and make your guys obey commands with more regularity, this may well be one of the best shooters ever made.

The enemy is tagging me from a very long distance. They are no more than a single pixel in size from my prospective, yet they can still spot me and kill me. Frustrating.

So are the menu's/ UI fixed in this? I find Arma II to just be completely tedious to do anything in it to enjoy it.

Depends on your definition of 'fixed'.

It is largely the same but cleaned up a bit. They won't win any design awards but everything is much more responsive than Arma 2. I am less frustrated with Arma 3 in alpha version than I ever was with Arma 2 as a finished product.

The AI is vastly more dangerous as well. They will spot over a longer distance, engage at the effective range of their weapons rather than charging you and move a lot more effectively. In MOUT they are a lot more deadly, whereas before they were fish in a barrel, it now feels like you are the fish. I think its kind of good that a 6v6 PvAI combat is hit or miss depending on terrain and such even with experienced players, its more realistic.

But many servers are now reducing the precision of the AI and that is making the combat last longer with less casualties which will be more fun. If you play on the right server you'll find its been tweaked to a decent level.

The AI is much improved but still occasionally a bit wonky. But that still makes it smarter than any AI I have ever seen in any other game.

Debating buying this game now while it is only $33 because as the earlier posts said, it will likely be $50 or $60 on release. I personally liked ArmA I better than ArmA II, as it seemed more fluid and I'm hoping that degree of fluidity is back. Thoughts?

For a good introduction to Arma 3's features and changes, check out CHKilroy's Youtube channel. He has a pretty detailed walkthrough of the changes in Arma 3.

Personally, it is a lot less clunky and more streamlined than Arma 2 so maybe it will feel more "fluid" as well.

Just buy it. You have a job and plenty of money.

Man...I just love how the weapons feel in this game. The way they don't jump back to center like most FPSs, the non-uniform movements while sighted, etc..

It just feels incredibly rewarding to aim and shoot somebody in this game.

I still have a couple of invites left. I said I'd give one to Fanatical_Meat, but he hasn't responded to my PM yet, so... you snooze you lose.

I have to try this one out. Thinking about pre ordering it. I do have track ir 5 so it should be easier to fly the choppers with my x52 pro but that leaves little room on the desk for mouse movement lol.
