Dosn't matter...it dosn't feel like "CoD"...and Thus some people will whine.
Even people who have never worn a full battlekit...you don't act like "spiderman" in full combat gear....but what can you expect from people with no IRL military experience. *shrugs*

Lol did the mandatory 4 months of service in your country make you into an ultra experienced, so super tactical, headshots all day delta force bad ass?

Actually, I think Crysis with the Casus Belli mod has some of the best realistic style movement mechanics in any FPS. (Crysis with the Tactical Expansion mod is pretty close, too...as long as you don't use the suit).

I never feel like I'm fighting the character. The reactions feel like they're directly connected to my thoughts, instead of that feeling like I'm controlling a robot.

I really loved that mod, but all the servers are in Europe, and most of the time I can't get a decent connection. The maps though and the gameplay is just great. The dev team really has some artistic talent. I can remember some firefights going on for minutes at a time.....the really good lean, crouch, and prone mechanics make using cover truly fantastic. Cover systems are ALL inferior compared to real, properly developed manual movement control.

ArmAIII is vastly improved over ArmAII, but I still think they could work on the movement a bit.

Cover in arma 3 is very situational. Unlike in far cry or gears of war the place from which thou are attacked changes dramatically. What was cover and minimal exposure pretty soon becomes no cover at all. With such a wide avenue of possibilities you have to be in charge of your stance with a high degree of accuracy. The system as it stands is IMO excellent, it solves a big problem with the previous game and moves at a semi realistic pace, which is after what we want. The animation is fluid, but it takes longer than doing things in other games, not because its not smooth but because its based in reality on how quickly you can change your stance.

Have you actually used Far Cry 3's cover system? When you are crouched behind something you hold the mouse button and your weapon basically hovers above whatever cover you are behind. Moving the mouse up and down adjusts how much of your body is exposed.

That system is far more elegant than ARMA 3's, and I played half of FC3 before I even realized it was there. Once you figure it out it's really intuitive, and by far the best cover system in a FPS I have played yet. Actually I think Crysis 2 did this also.

Back in the day, when I was young, it was 10 months.
Then you add misson-traning and 2 tours in former Yugoslavia.
The first time I was dogding bullets I was 19 years old.
How old were you?

But you seem to have a mental issue with me, noe don't you....mr failed Google search?

Lonbjerg leaves written feces all over the forum. Didn't you guys know? However, when you call him out to back up his claims with the personal knowledge he claims to have, the know it all literally disappears from the thread. Try it, it works wonders!

Oh Lonbjerg the Great, He Who Knows All, do educate us lowly peons about the technical inner workings of the engine. I'm curious. School us.

It's Lonbjerg... the forum abrasive brillo pad

Funny, in game you're the same old Lonbjerg that you are on here. Hint, whining in pub matches is actually pretty useless, playing alone in pub means you're ok with horrible teams

In other news, I love my 3601 too! 3000 Konisch rounds in storage, ready for destruction.

If laughing at your obsessive defense of anything Nvidia is personal, then yes, I suppose so

You really should let off the green juice and put down the pom poms, little mr angry forum poster. Get over the fact that plenty of people don't like PhysX, and :gasp:... some of them own Nvidia products, like me. You're mad that people are looking forward to this Tressfx hair thing, and don't care for PhysX... get over it brah

Why are you always such an angry forum poster? Are you this angry in real life? I'd hate to know you. Everyone is having a nice discussion for once, on topic, but not if old Lonnie has anything to say about it D:

Anyway, I think the feature looks cool. Looking forward to seeing it in motion, whether it's on my AMD or Nvidia card, don't care.

Dang bro... are you this much of a "likable, non internet-tough, well mannered nice guy" in real life too?

All of his posts come from his digital behind.

You really should get a new hobby...you look like you have issues

The thing I don't like about the FC3 / Crysis2 cover system is that it only works when you are pressed up against an object, and that it has to be a predefined cover object.

I took a screen here out of the Crysis2 SDK and you can see what I mean....you can see there is a lot of stuff they didn't wrap for cover use.

Using the cover system also means you can't lean around stuff you're approaching to take a peek at the scene.

They could make everybody happy if they just left this system in place AND ALSO allowed you to manually lean. I like being able to lean any darn place I want.

CoD will always be tuned for insta-gratification kiddos that strive for uber unlocks and OMG GOLDEN TIGER DESERT EAGLES. Sorry, that's just what the game appeals to. I played up till 4, played Multi, and now that's all the game runs on anymore (multiplayer that is).

ARMA always will be ARMA...I don't understand people's gripes with the "clunky controls" it's for the most part fine. This game is a HUGE sandbox, sure running up to a ladder won't automatically make you climb up it...but is that really needed? It's one freaking button, enter, and there you go.

I really wish that DayZ hadn't come out and put this game on the map for all the tools and douches that are now complaining. Really? You're going to complain that you're getting 50FPS...in an alpha...and I really can't tell a difference personally if it's Above 30fps at all times.

I know people will bitch just to bitch but come on, this is a sim...not an arcade shooter. Why don't you go into iRacing.com forums and start complaining that the cars aren't as easy to drive as they are in MarioKart if you want to troll/show off your talent at massive retardation.

That pretty much summed up none of what my complaints are about.

There is a difference between CoD players and ARMA players indeed.
But this will sort if self out...those wanting CoD-rambo-style...will leave, when they cannot adapt to the tactical gameplay in ARMA...

I've played and enjoyed all the ARMAs and knew exactly what the game was when I bought this latest one. It's this broken logic that because the game is attempting to be a simulation that the clunky and awkward controls are appropriate.

I move and adjust my body position fluidly in real life and the game needs to work on making the human to pc controls feel fluid as well. All the new adjustable stances are awesome and a good addition, but in reality, to be an attempt at a good simulation it needs to have fluid and smooth controls. Unless you are suffering from a neural or muscular condition, when was the last time you had difficulty and felt awkward crouching or adjusting your body position, discounting inebriation and the pains of old age as well of course I can drop from a standing to flat on the ground position in a second, it should feel the same way in the game.

The biggest issue ARMA has always had imo are the elitist nuts who think because they have handled a firearm in real life they are now an elite navy seal in a game of ARMA... lol. Then go on to defend any control issues as somehow justified because it's a 'simulation' By virtue of being a simulation it should have the best and most fluid controls of any first person engine then...

Most sims have this issue though, take a look at flight sim forums etc..

Have you ever moved in a full combatgear in a real combat situation in real life?

Simple yes or no question.

To be honest I didn't read any of your complaints. I'm basing it on a generalization of what I've seen over the years since playing OPFlash singleplayer and ARMA 1 online.

I was in a squad in ARMA 2 and I only lasted for a few weeks because I did NOT find walking through a forest on a custom map made by one of our ex mils very fun. Walk walk walk walk walk, 1 hour passes no contact, walk walk walk, jeep with machine gun mows us down. They were a hyper realism squad and apparently there are quite a few of them.

I have more fun doing insertion/evac with Helis to random people, that's where I found my fun. Others find fun in driving tanks, bombing/leveling cities, or infantry fighting. Running and gunning never worked in ARMA as the AI would gun you down in an instant, plus the maps are so large it's easy to get lost/take forever to get anywhere

I suspect the PVP fighting in ARMA3 vanilla will not appeal to the DayZ/COD players for multiple reasons.

Edit: I'd like to be told one game that doesn't have "Stiff, non-fluid" controls of a human body with the complexity that ARMA and family has. Every FPS game out now basically has the Torso/Head in a rigid state and does not separate the movement like trackir allows you to do in sims/ARMA.

Simple yes or no question.

The last time I checked most combat soldiers are wearing body armour, carrying their weapon, ammunition and accessories. They are not all humping around in a combat zone with a huge backpack on. I could give you some education on the responsiveness of the healthy human body in relation to cerebral to muscular neural behaviour and how hormone production impacts on it, but it wouldn't be worth it.

Because it's Lonbjerg, resident Troll; programmer, engineer, philosopher, elected official, green beret, medical professional. Where will his vast cache of formidable knowledge and expertise end ?

Don't understand why everyone has a huge boner for lonbjerg, I agree with the points that he's made from the few pages that I've read in this thread.

Maybe it's because I HATE BF3, COD, plus all the fans that play it ("Bloody Screen! SO REAL!"). I was a HUGE fan of BF2 and was disgusted by the utter condensing of the franchise in order to appeal to the ADD kiddos that need a constant reminder/reward to show that they are doing well in the game.

ARMA will always be in a league of it's own. Just because you can't play the game with a fucking Xbox controller does not mean the game has "Crappy Controls".

If you never liked the prequals because of the controls why the fuck are you coming into a thread to complain about the same thing? Are you a glutton for punishment? Or are you just hoping that BI will sell out and make it more accessible, but were disappointed when you found out that wasn't true and they just added more commands?

Most of the people trying to focus on me and not my arguments are people who had their ego bruised in the videocards section by post I made there, not directed at them...but at AMD products FYI.

There is a reason why a major part of the ARMA commmunity ar epeople with military background...it's the game that comes the closest to the real thing.

But sadly most people get their "military" expeirence from bad Hollywood movies...and I bet none of them has tasted the metal in thier mouth, while gasping for air high on adrenaline, body hurting while you are trying to spot the fucker that just missed a shot at you....I have never seen anyone move like "Spiderman" in a real combat situation, infact most firefights have movments like this:

When you are in tall grass crawling and you sit up too shoot no other game does that. When you are slicing a corner using the stances to minimise your exposure you are no where near the wall. Heck in mout when against RPGs you stay away from the walls, so having an automatic progressive cover doesn't work. You can take cover not just behind the stone in front of you but also the car 50m up the road. The stanch system is like no other and it really solves a critical problem many of us had with the previous game. Cover is just more complicated than some snap to/progress over system. Its different without a doubt, but the wide open combat and realistic nature makes it necessary. Because you don't just use cover next to you exclusively. Anything between you and the shooter is cover if you can move to use it.

It might be better if it was continuous, so you could get the exact right height, but it would then require analog input making it even more complicated. But its not really clunky, you soon get used to it and it gives you what you need. Combat lasts 10s of minutes anyway, lightening fast response to peeking in and out is not really required. You just don't play it like that.

We made a pistol only tvt mission and it was really popular because the cqb and mout has improved so much. Its not the pace of cod, but it reminded me of cod 1 with it set to realism/hardcore. COD actually had good realism back in the beginning for its day, it just went in the quake direction not the arma direction. Its not cod but the controls are a lot smoother and responsive, the mouse is no longer negatively accelerated and the stamina system combined with the 3 movement speeds really makes the game pretty different.

I just love arma 3, its an amazing game to play 60 people cooperatively with.

I'm disappointed because it's a game I would love to play, but the character movements and controls are so bad the game feel broken. My major problem is that they are needlessly complicated and if you disagree with that you are an Arma elitist that poo poo's any other game that does something better than Arma.

I can fully tolerate a lot of key combinations in vehicles because vehicles actually have buttons and controls in real life. What I can't stand is walking up to a ladder. Sitting there for 2 seconds thinking about what button I need to press to grab it, having my mouse wheel move at the last second pulling out my pistol. Switching back to my rifle, and then trying again to grab this stupid ladder that in real life I could run up to at a full sprint.

This video illustrates my point nicely.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Hzw2sfNN0Ac

I know it's different in combat gear, but all of these things are possible in a combat load albeit marginally slower. This guy is not stopping to hunt for a button before he begins to do something. The infantry side of the game needs to be more fluid to simulate the experience of being a highly trained soldier. That's something the Arma series fails at miserably if you ask me.
