Heh, I am breaking the dress code at work right now wearing jeans on a Thursday I think dress codes suck, especially if you are working in an environment where you meet another human being, a co-worker, maybe once in 3 weeks. I've been here 5 weeks and have spoken about 5 times to 3-4 different people. I am by myself the rest of the time. What's the point in a strict dress code?

Where I used to work previously, there was no dress code but most people followed their own dress codes according to their station - I was working in a lab and people working around me were often dressed like bums. But senior executives and people in sales/marketing were always dressed impeccably and it made perfect sense that way. Had I known about the dress code in this place, I would've thought twice about joining - I had to re-work my entire wardrobe (which previous consisted of 4 pairs of jeans and various t-shirts replenished every few months )

It's an eclectic mix at my office. We're an ad agency so on one hand you have the executives and more business-oriented folks who regularly meet with clients and sales reps and often wear suits. Then you've got the 'creative' folks who walk around looking like bad ripoffs of Mac ads wearing anything under the sun just trying to look 'different.' Then you've got the more mainstream folks who wear more traditional business casual.

I usually fall mostly in the last group, but since we have such a diverse mix, it's easy to 'dress way down' every now and then. That's what I did today actually as I know I don't any meetings and will be in my office all day.

The girls at our office usually exercise pretty good judgment. It's actually our 'creative' guys that cause the execs to get irritated sometimes. I'd be irritated too if I was paying some of those yahoos the money they get and yet they dress like a 13 year old punk wannabe.

Only recently did they start to bring it back but only during the last day of the month. And from what I've been seeing it'll probably be taken away pretty soon again.

So ladies, please have some decency. This is work, not going out to the club. And because of your decisions, you are ruining a day for us guys who have to wear a dress shirt and tie all week long.

I'm sure posting this to atot will have a lot of impact...

Hate to tell you this but guys could care less if women wear skimpy clothing...
I'm sure they would actually encourage it. It is instead the fault of the fat ugly chicks working there, because they don't look as good in skimpy clothing and don't like the attention showered on the better looking specimens.

We had a male principal and vice principal in high school who made it very easy on the eyes in not enforcing the fairly strict dress code.

Agreed. At my company (before it was acquired), casual Friday meant polo shirts and jeans at most. Other days were business casual (slacks, but no tie). It shouldn't be hard to set the rules. Much better idea than having no rules and then cancelling it.

They ruin it here too, although we still have casual Fridays and one jeans day a month. A lot of the women here just look plain sloppy on the casual days though; wearing cheap flip-flops from walmart and spandex pants with their dimpled silly-putty looking asses moving in all directions at once.

Meanwhile the guys all have Dockers on or something similar and a collared shirt. Talk about a double standard.

Yeah, mm-hmm....

Yeah, if you'll go ahead and do that, that'd be great.

There is no dress code here. People come to work wearing flip-flops, shorts, and a South Park t-shirt. I don't think it makes us any less productive.

here's a funny story about a meeting we had at my last job about casual day discussing what was and wasn't acceptable...

when the topic of footwear came up, the speaker said, no sandals, open toe shoes, flip flops or thongs could be worn...

some girl at the back of them room (who wasn't sharpest knife in the drawer) raised her hand and asked, "how would anyone know (I was wearing a thong - inserted for clarification - she didn't say this part in parenthesis)?"...the whole room just busted out laughing...

I used to work in public education, in the district IT Support office. The entire district had casual Friday rules, but my department was not allowed to participate in casual Friday, due to my boss's personal preference. His logic? We also supported quite a few other districts (*all* of which had casual dress every day), and he wanted us to look professional in case we would have to go on-site to one of the other districts, to support them. In the two years that happened, there were only a few times that happened -- oh, and the same person from my department would respond every time, so the rest of us wouldn't have to bother with complete idiots on a Friday. Everyone in our department even offered to keep dress shirts & ties in a closet at the office, so that we could change, if we had to visit an associate school... anything to be able to participate in casual Friday. Nope!

Anyway.... there was a huge fight among the teaching staff one day. The men got tired of being required to wear shirts & ties every day (M-Th), while the rules for women were much more relaxed. They had to look "nice". They could (and many did) get away with wearing slacks and a polo shirt every day... but the men would be written up as a violation of dress code policy. When asked why they chouldn't more clearly define what *women* could wear, since the men's definition was set in stone, administration said that it would be considered "discrimination", and would not do so. Ummmmm..... right......

I hate to say this...but the ladies almost ruined it at our place of work as well. The guys stayed very true to the guidelines that we were given, but the girls would wear T-shirts and flip flops and stuff that management had clearly asked them not to do. I don't know if it is like that everywhere...but it is annoying.

Seems like many of you have it pretty good at your work place. It would be nice to have everyday casual. Atleast then I'd only have to buy regular clothes instead of having to spend more money for seperate work clothes.

i'm so glad i don't have to wear a tie everyday anymore

t-shirt, shorts, flip-flops for me nowadays
although the flip-flops make playing the daily 9 holes of golf difficult :\

We are pretty relaxed. Just a collared button down, some khakis and a belt. My boss buys all the shirts too (since they have the company logo on them...)
