but than you loose half the fun of eBay. I love seeing the seconds tick by when i refresh the browser windows. Its thrilling! It's kinda funny to see some auctions where at the last 30 secs the item goes up by $400 and someone getting sniped with 1 second left.

Now I'm happy that I lost that auction becuase I found a better laptop in the local classified ads for a VERY good deal (HP P3 1.2Ghz, 512, 15.1" screen, DVD/CD-RW, LOADED for $900.00).

LOL. I like doing this, too.
It's also fun to watch people bid up little by little, but then at the last second your snipe kicks in and screws them all.

But, I'm not Ebaying for excitement--I'm doing it to buy stuff.

Heh, I usually snipe the old fashioned way (esnipe is nice though for situations when I'm not around/awake). I swear, my heart races as the time ticks down to zero!

And Jzero speaks the truth--unfortunately most ebayers don't realize it. That is why sniping is still a viable way to save money *SOMETIMES*(but often enough that I always snipe). The day that everyone knows how ebay works is the day that sniping will no longer be necessary.

The thing is that you'll get people who don't understand proxy bidding and think they need to keep bidding until they win the auction (or just like the whole bidding process). What a tiring chore that must be. Chances are they will forget to be around when the auction closes and my snipe will get me the winning bid, even if they were willing to pay more for the item.

I like ebay as is (well, except for the fraud aspects). I have gotten a lot of great stuff for a lot less than I'd pay retail. It wouldn't be as fun if John Q. Public knew the system... so Jzero, shhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!!!

You may have a point.
Although in my experiences, most people are unwilling to allow themselves to understand the stark simplicity. They keep giving me these bizarre scenarios that always boil down to "You bid lower than you were willing to pay" or "Someone was willing to pay more" and they still refuse to believe that there's nothing more to it.

It's kind of fun

Actually, real men probably don't even know what eBay is...

hehe. He said loaded
I've got so much software (and many have legal certs/licenses too) that I've never bought anything in the last 10 years that came "loaded."

Is MrhappyMonkey now Mr.UnpleasantlyAmusedMonkey ????
