Well, you are probably wondering what happened to me for yet another month, and this time it wasn't a new job -- a girlfriend or something of REAL importance. It was a modem, a cable modem, to be exact. It went out for approximately one month, I had about 13 technicans (no lie) come to my house and all of them had different answers, "Low Signals," "High Signals," "Underground Cable is messed up," etc etc, and different solutions. Finally, after about a month, a "Second Level" technican made his way to my house and fixed it. I've had it going for about one day now and nothing has happened, although, I don't have high hopes.

So, that is my rant and rave about one of the worst services/customer support I have ever experienced. Not to mention some of the most idiotic technicans that I have ever met. Please feel free to call @Home (1-888-793-0800; I've memorized the number from dialing it ever so many times) and tell them how much they suck!

Your Angriest Internet User,
Josh

Their service is so horrendous it's amazing. It's truely profound how bad it is. Report all your bad experiences to DSL Reports it will help spread the word about how incredibly bad @home customer service is.

Hahahaha, we have the same service, you being in Jersey and all, and I must say they are suck. When I first got it, it went out every other minute cause the NIC they gave me was having a problem with my comp (it was a 4 year old POS). I went to a friend's house when he was getting the cable installed one time. The technician couldn't get the NIC to work, 5 mins later I had the cable up and running. The service here sucks.

Occassionally I have 10mins to 1 hour long outages, especially late at night around 3am. Sometimes I get weird outages where the lights on my cable are still on, but it isn't working. If I reboot the modem it works fine. Still its worth it for the speed and the pings. Over 400KB/s downloads and 100KB/s uploads are great, and my pings are rarely above 100ms. I don't need tech support unless the problem is on their end, so I don't really care much about that. I'm just happy for the speed.

Yes, it certainly does. The customer support people really only know two things;

1. "Disconnect the power from the modem and plug it in again." (usually NEVER works)
2. "I'll have to set you up with a technician"

Works great here in CA, i told the guy to sync the modem and get out. Imaginge they won't support dual boot and I have my own GOOD NIC (intel pro100S), very fast up to 600KB/s sustained.

Well well well...it looks as if though...I'm gonna be Platinum or Diamond or whatever with this post.

I hereby declare @HOME THE WORST ISP in the history of ISPs. I've been hung up on, disconnected from, shot at(umm...), and worst of all...

No access to the internet! No contact with buyers, no answers to tough problems...no access to the answers of those little questions you've got in your head....

No...I'm not gonna say it...but my split personality will..."NO pr0n!"

I think I've posted 3 topics on how much I hate @HOME....none of those threads got as big as this. do a search. Laugh, cry...cuddle up with that girlfriend...my story...is one of sorrow...and sheer stupidity.

Laugh on, @home martyr...laugh on...

My cable "technician" was in awe at the sight of 2 browser windows open at one time when he saw me testing it out after the install. No joke... he didn't know it was possible to have two IE windows open!

@home sucks bigtime.

If I could get even 128/128 DSL I would but I'm too far from the CO.

Im a @Home user and I would have to say they suck more then PayPal! I went to a Computer Expo show here in Kentucky and @Home had a booth setup. I walked up to the guy at the booth and asked him whats the deal with your technicians!? He said why, I told him I get some many differant stories when my Cable modem/Line go's down and have to call in. He said you want the truth? Now Im thinking WTF? He said they pull anyone off the street that can read out of a book. So the next time your on hold when you call....just think there searching there books or database because most dont have a clue! I believe its a matter of time before I switch to DSL!

Check his out:
About 3 weeks ago my cablemodem went out. I called up and the guy asked what OS are you running I told him Windows 2000. He tells me to go to the command line and type WINIPCONG. I told him that wont work because Im running windows 2000 NOT 95 or 98. He then said whos the technician here? Now Im fired up and just hung up on the dumb ass. I have better luck troubleshooting my modem myself. I was running DHCP and had to end up putting in a static IP address because there server was screwed up and couldnt asign a IP address through DHCP.

If you hate it that much, you could go back to dial up. The problem is that call centers are manned by mostly unqualified zombies that got their techincal skills but reading the 10 page HOWTO guide given out on induction day. Those people who are truely gifted and have a clue, wake up one day and quit. So where does this leave @home cust service?

Basically you have to diagnose the problem yourself and learn enough about the cable system to be able to "guide" the loser who turns up at your home. I truely feel for you guys who have crappy service but then very few people in the rest of the world have cable speeds as good as you get.

In Australia I pay $75 a month for 600K/16K Max Down/Up. Everyone here thinks it's a rip off but it's the best we have right now. Customer service here is a lot better but speed isn't as good.

Once I can afford it I will upgrade to UUNet or another ISP who provides an SLA. What's as SLA (Service Level Agreement) you ask? It means that if the provider doesn't provide a certain level of quality you can sue or take other action.

Yes @Home can be crappy, but would you rather go back to dialup?

I love @home until it goes out. Then I hate it. But when it comes back on I love it.

Those things are pretty expensive I'd have to pay about $5000 a month for true 512K/512K but with a SLA. I might do it one day.

I used to have @home. When my e-mail was down for months at a time, my service was down for 2-3 weeks at a time, and my uploads were ~2-3kB/s, I got DSL instead.

Remember to call their sales line and ask for tech support.
I do it all the time.

Think about it....they think you're buying, therefore they ALWAYS Answer quicker with less hold time

I've always wondered why I get disconnected after 6 hours of use. It doesn't matter if I'm downloading or playing a game, it just disconnects. I called @Home and the guy said "Must be a period of inactivity" and I said "No, no, I can be talking with friends or anything like that and it just goes off." And he replies "Probably a glitch or something".

If it wasn't for this (and their dial-up software (there's no cancel button, so when it doesn't go there, it just hangs there on the screen and i have to shut down, unplug and replug the modem, and start it back up)) @Home would be great.
