Hmm, I sure would like to know how that translates. I cant help but be suspicious When DDos (Distributed Denial of Service) and attack and servers probably mean the same thing across languages.

I'm just curious where they can find 2M a day? They first have to the russians, then you and then the DPC. It's brave but I think they have more then enough trouble with TA...

It took the DPC 3/4 of a year when TA was at a daily output of 1M. Now Ta is at 2.0M a day. Ars needs 4 Tacubes before they come close to you

i wonder how big AFS is? it seems like they're a mini-team that jumps projects every once in a while. ars has huge computing power... being number 1 at seti means fighting sun, sgi, and compaq

Decding to overtake the DPC is much easier said than done--we ought to know. Ars has a few hundred doing RC5 continuously. They may have a bunch of SETI horsepower, but the great majority of them won't switch. Witness the SETI Cavalry, their help is much appreciated, but it didn't turn the tide. Hundreds and hundreds of new asslaminations is the only way we'll catch them.


They could undoubtedly save up for a megaflush and knock them off for a day, but the only way they could beat the DPC's consistently would be to form an Ars Technica mini-team within, oh, let's say, the current second place team.... and as a combined force we would then be in the ballpark! Hmmmm.

I wouldn't mind seeing that happen. Funny thing is I have hardocp set as my homepage, but I'm folding for TA. I read arstechnica, but never cracked for them. I never visit anandtech.com, but I crack for them and go to the forums.

Too bad arstechnica, TA, and that hard site couldn't merge. We would own just about every distributed contest.


I was also wondering if anyone was interested in starting something like arstechs AFS. I know that I like to try out different projects and it would give me a good reason to do so. I've spent months of cpu times away from rc5 doing UD, Seti, F@H, etc and have realized that my stats won't really increase that much in any of them so I would be interested in putting my 3-5 cpus onto rotating projects cracking under 1 email. I think it would be fun to see if we could have an impact on various projects.

HeHe. The Ars guys are delusional. I don't think they have any real concept of the power level it would take to knock off the DPC.

Should be fun to watch them try, though.

I posted in that thread suggesting they join TA as an Ars mini-team. I suspect it will not be received with much enthusiasm, but it doesn't hurt (much) to ask.

It would be nice if they joined TA as a mini-team, that could help TA try to get past the DPC, but there's no way Ars can knock off TA or the DPC in RC5, although it would be nice for them to pull that power off of SETI for a while to try...
