I got one of the Artec e+48U scanners a week or so ago. Tried it out yesterday using WIN-XP. In comparing it to Visioneer 8100, and a 3-year old Canon FB620/U (was $30 after rebate at Staples), I'd say either one is considerably better than the Artec. They're faster, with better image/print quality. I can't BELIEVE how slow the Artec is! I DO like the CIS technology though (no warm-up, starts scanning instantly).
The old Canon FB620/U has zero warm-up. It starts scanning instantly, is reasonably quick, easy to use, with a pretty good image quality. I prefer it, best of the three.
The Visioneer 8100 seems very quick, needs warmup (or leave light on permanently), has good image quality if you increase the DPI a little bit. I probably haven't fiddled with it enough (or read the manual), but I haven't figured how to get it to "save" the configurations yet. I keep having to deal with on-screen selections after I push the "one-touch" buttons. Hmmmmm. I'll try more this week?
The Artec e+48U is going onto my pile of shiite! Or flea-bay, later?
