China reached the top not through trade, but through manufacturing, creating wealth, and through ruthlessly making sure that every factory and corporation in China must have at least 50% Chinese ownership. That allows them access to the patents and the technology of every single product made in China. Whenever they wish, those patents and technology can be shifted to a purely Chinese company which then drives the mixed ownership company out of business, or at least out of that particular market. Meanwhile we are doing even higher levels of trade, but most of ours is importation. Since we no longer generate more wealth than we consume, the Chinese take the difference in government debt (creates leverage) as well as real estate and corporate stock. That will save us from a world war though, since by the time the Chinese military is strong enough to be sure of victury, they aren’t going to want to break their own stuff just because it’s over here.

My disagreement, is that I think the base of the problem is that changing/adapting is like pulling teeth in this country. Naturally, it's kind of the way we designed it - which was good at the time, but we are now in a rapidly changing world. China, on the other hand, doesn't give a fuck and can make changes overnight. I agree with you in that meat hooks are firmly anchored into their asses in our government - so naturally certain industries are protected (Oil/Gas, Big Farming, etc...) Those anchors only come out when that generation dies - so it takes a long fucking times.

Decent idea I have - the 2 party system fucks us over - BIG TIME. The last 30 years have been nothing but R's get power - a couple changes. D's get power... a couple changes... rinse/repeat every 4 or so years. The problem is, the world has drastically changed and we're being left in the dust. So - to combat this I suggest 1 of 2 things.... #1 - Do away with 2 parties (not going to happen)... so that leads me to #2... Require at least a 70-80% majority in order to pass ANYTHING.... Anyone with half a brain realizes that we will either see cooperation or absolutely no changes.

In our current state, we just play this stupid game where all we need are 50 senators or 50-60% of the house in order to vote. So they will deliberately do things that the entire other party doesn't want. IF we made it so that you always require 70-80%, that would simply mean compromise is the ONLY way to get anything done. No party is ever going to have 75% of the house/senate.
