I don't think that's true at all. The TPP was partly designed to thwart Chinese influence in the region by strengthening economic ties. Instead, we've scrapped that and are in the process of tearing down our global soft power. It's only natural that China will step into that vacuum to push their own interests.
lol Yeah, that's it. How stupid we were to reject the one global treaty that was actually going to be to our advantage!

Sometimes I wonder if people are actually stupid enough to believe things like this.

Well, with the stock market going up and up and the GDP climbing to 3%, combined with Trump's endeavor on jobs and Make America Great Again. I really don't see how a currency manipulator of a slave labor-based country can compete. Especially when we start making our own shit for a change and increasing our exports. I for one, and I'm sure Trump is in agreement, don't want to see that big F U! of Made In China anymore.

The only thing China is good at is generating greenhouse gas, making cheap knock off products and stealing intellectual property for their own benefit. For all intents and purposes, China can keep skinning their dogs and eat a bag of dragon dicks.

China won't "take over the world." But its influence is surely growing. The are essentially doing the things the US did for the last 70 years. Finance and help build dams, factories, mines, infrastructure in other countries all around the world. The changes really started happening after tiananmen square when China made an unofficial pact with its citizens to behave and they'll allow a more western version of capitalism.
I think China actually will take over the world. There are two ascendant forces in the world today, Islam and Communist China. India is stagnating, or at least not growing in global power. America and Europe are ashamed to claim that our cultures and civilizations are as good, let alone better than others. I think the final conflict is going to be China versus Islam. Of the two, I prefer China. I much prefer an authoritarian government focused on productivity and law to waving my butt in the air five times a day and stoning heretics. If nothing else, the video games will be a lot better.

As far as Tiananmen Square, I work with a delightful Chinese immigrant. Her cousins (20s and 30s) back in the mainland don't have the vaguest clue what is Tiananmen Square. It simply never happened for them. One thing they absolutely do know however is you don't talk bad about communism or the government, for it's always listening.

You funny boy. Trump is extremely wealthy - his words - and yet almost none of his own high priced merchandise is made in America. Even his "Make America Great Again" hats are only assembled in America of imported parts.

“If you wait by the river long enough, the bodies of your enemies will float by.”
― Sun Tzu

China has waited long enough for Trump to come along and send America's global leadership's corpse down the river. Congratulations.

And that's the crime of it all. You almost can't make anything here. My mom is in a doll sculpting community with famous doll sculptors. Some of them have their dolls reproduced (reborn) in vinyl. You can go with an American company, but it will cost you. Your only choice is China.

Sure you can make things here. You just have to be willing to settle for higher costs, and therefore lower profit. Clothing is one category still practical to produce in the USA - IFF you are willing to accept lower profit.

Unless China runs into the same problems as the West. E.g. a property-bubble.

I'm not convinced China is as robust as made out. It still has huge potential problems. And if the Chinese economy _does_ falter the concequences will be horrendous, both in terms of China's domestic political stability and in terms of the global economy.

Your mom had a choice, she chose to save a few bucks and get her doll made by a child in China

Speaking of China I watched an automotive report yesterday where their auto companies are about to begin marketing to NA further increasing pressure on existing manufacturers.

You make it sound like the US stopped polluting the environment as well. There's all sorts of nasty stuff; Pine Ridge is still radioactive as fuck due to cowboy corporations letting uranium leak into the environment unabated, Picher is still a disgusting hellhole, the Flint water debacle, etc. etc.
True, but look at where we are today relative to even just a short few decades ago. I look at pictures of NY, Los Angeles and London from before the dawn of environmentalism, and it is terrifying to think what air quality used to be.

Even still, I used to joke to my friends back east that I knew what season it was in CA by whether or not I could see the mountains.

Even if we shift entirely from fossil fuels, industry created some very nasty byproducts.

All we did was outsource our pollution, and as you stated, there are still some nasty things getting dumped on American soil and in American water.

We need to bring outsourced Chinese pollution to Republican areas. Because their obesity, opioids, HIV, and voting to destroy the health care system is not getting the job done.

Very progressive. We need more thought leaders like you.

Will you stand by the sidelines in a cheerleader outfit and pom poms as we cart away the bodies?

This has been the trend for many years, but Trump's boneheaded policies (especially with abandoning/gutting trade treaties-a vacuum China very eagerly is stepping into, together with gutting the State Department, erratic and constant policy changes making our allies wary of us, etc.), well he has given them a several decade jump on their long term plans.

Buncha maroons. The Chinese govt has taken their country from poverty to relative affluence in 40 years.

How did they do that? Trade. Their products penetrate every market in the world.

In the meanwhile, our version of trickle down economics has taken the broad middle class to the woodshed. We can probably MAGA our way into being even poorer if we're only willing to believe...

We no longer have much of the infrastructure needed to make the goods to trade. That infrastructure could be rebuilt and upgraded but, corporate America will insure that doesn't happen. Trump and the rest of the government is simply along for the ride while doing their best to line their pockets.

Political parties of any stripe had very little to do with it. Corporate America are the ones responsible.

The Republican party is the well paid agent of Corporate America & the financial elite who control it. Witness their current efforts wrt healthcare, social programs & taxes.

You're just giving us a backhanded "they're just as bad!" when that's demonstrably false.
