This is a nice deal. The only time it is cheaper was Black Friday, 30 bucks after rebates. BB and WD rebates are good. Just be sure to send all requirements and on time.

Fluid Dynamic Bearings. They should be much quieter and provide longer MTBF than traditional bearings.

Oh well I have some time to think about it yet.

I'd go with the Maxtor's. You definitely get what you pay for with regard to WD.. Had a 160GB WD and had to replace it. The damn thing was LOUD -- definitely the loudest part of my entire system.

I've had the opposite experience. My Maxtor after 4 years of use is LOUD. The WD drive I have is very quiet.

Yeah. I guess I should have put YMMV or something. I have a 160G Maxtor and 180G Hitachi in my system at the moment and both are super quiet.

What about COURTESY?

No thread crapping. If the subject matter of a deal does not interest you, do not post negative comments about it, or about other members, in the thread.

Possibly the worst examples we have had of this have been in posts for free religious items, such as bibles, etc. If you want to discuss religion, or any other such non-computer topic, do it in our Off Topic forum. The discussions in that forum cover a wide range of topics, but needless flaming and rude, mean-spirited posts are not welcome there, either.

Stick to discussing the deal. Do not post needless rude or trivial comments about someone else's posts. Flaming can only hurt someone's feelings. Nuisance posts, such as "In before the lock," "IBTL" or other needless bumps just recycle bad threads and force good ones off the first page of the forum.

Think before you post. Rude posts can kill a good deal. For example, posts for deals on sexually related items such as condoms and lubricants are ok, but if others cannot refrain from posting lewd or childish remarks, that would be reason to lock or delete the thread.

You're an idiot...do you have a sense of humor @ all?

LOL, someone needs to learn to count to ten!

You have to know what you're comparing to make it meaningful. Both of the loud drives mentioned above are almost certainly older drives using ball bearing motors.

The newer WD FDB drives (JB series) are as quiet, if not quieter, than Maxtor's FDB drives (Plus 9 series). The older WD ball bearing drives were loud, just like the older ball bearing drives from other brands. But the other brands (e.g. Maxtor, Seagate, Hitachi, etc.) switched to FDB a lot sooner than WD. WD finally switched to using all FDB last year.

For those of you considering more than 1 unit, WD rebates are:
1 per person
1 per address
1 per household

So you can get this rebate only on 1 unit.

Regards,
B.

Also (heh), no mo' price matching and rebating at BB.

"... Customers who receive a price match will not be eligible for the rebate. Those who receive a rebate and later receive a price match, will have the value of the rebate deducted from the price match. In-store rebates are valid on in-store purchases only. BestBuy.com rebates are valid with online purchases only."

It's hard wired into their system, you can't claim ignorance or blame it on the cashier, a screen pops up at the store reminding the both of yous: you PM - you don't get a rebate.

I just picked one up a few hours ago at the bestbuy in Yorba Linda, California 92886 and they said they had 1 left in stock. If you go early tomorrow, you might be able to snag it.
I called and they said they had 2 in stock. I had them put one on hold for me and I went in and bought it with a Gift Card.
