There was a period of time when WD made both BB and FDB drives, but that transition period is long over. Unless you get a really old drive, they're all FDB now. Best Buy seems to move a lot of these WD drives, so the chances of finding an old drive at Best Buy is a lot smaller than, say, OfficeMax.

My WD Ball Bearing drives were very noisy. The WD FDB drives are a vast improvement - much quieter in comparison.

For those interested in WD warranty timing, I returned one of these for warranty replacement last month. Their standard retail package warranty expires one year from the manufacture date + 60 days on their online RMA system. If you fax them your purchase receipt, they will adjust to 1 yr. from the purchase date if that's helpful (it was for me). Warranty service was prompt - a lot more so than their rebates.

Exactly. the manufacture date + 60 days only applies if you cannot provide a receipt. With a receipt it's 1 year from the date of pourchase regardlessw of date of manufacture.

Thanks OP Great deal. I got one at a B&M today. Both rebates printed at the register.

FYI...the manufacture dates on all the drives in the store (this model anyway) were in 2005. So, if WD uses FDB now, then all these drives should be FDB models.
