I keep switching between Firefox and Chrome but the last 3 months I've been using Firefox or Pale Moon only because of one thing...the interface...I hate Chrome's interface, bookmarks manager, the way its IE Tab opens new links in a new window rather than a new tab... I just hate it...

now after being used to Firefox and Pale Moon's speed......even though Pale Moon is slightly faster than Firefox thanks to some tweaks...

I just installed Chrome and boy it blows both them browsers out of the water!!!

I feel the same way like when I upgraded from Dial up to cable modem! it's that huge of a difference in snapiness of loading webpages.

To prove myself that I am not experiencing the placebo effect, I ran a few sites in Browser Benchmark and the difference is staggering....

I am talking about loading various forum sites within 2 to 3 seconds in chrome and taking up to 11 seconds in Firefox!

Both browswers have the same addons: Ad Block Plus, DoNotTrackMeh , Google Browser tracking Opt Out add on, LastPass, Xmarks, Thumbnail Zoom

Sorry Mozilla, as much as I loved your browser, it is so outdated in terms of performance

Had the difference been small, I would have favored Firefox purily because of its better interface. I can't say the same about addons anymore because Chrome's addons have come a long mile and almost every addon I use on Firefox is available for Chrome.

Bye bye Firefox turtle!

I have always been a fan of Chrome ever since i first started using it. Firefox I always kept around for a few of the cool extensions but over time I have just given up and I only install chrome.

I've been feeling the same way. In fact lately Firefox has had some lag connecting to some sites after an update for me (cleaned pc with CCleaner too) & flash issues where I can't pause videos unless the window is maximized. Scaling issues when I switch between my Monitor & TV. Even with the addons disabled too.

Flash popups for updates are annoying.

None of this with Chrome & I clean installed Firefox. I was using Chrome for Google stuff & Firefox for a few addons but it's just fallen from where it was. I think for me it's time to use Chrome full time too.

I recommend it to people anyways as it works great with background flash & browser updates. I was using Firefox to help support them but I'm getting more frustrated with them.

IE & Opera (turbo great for traveling with slow connections) are another story.

That benchmark page is subject to network latency. It's worthless as a benchmark. I checked a couple sites, and got wildly different results on refreshes. Chrome has nothing Firefox has. Everything is a stripped down imitation.

with all do respect...

that means nothing to the end user....

loading diff. pages in Chrome is at least 50% faster than Firefox

I hate to say this as I am a Firefox Fanboy but I just can't lie to myself anymore...they are the slowest browser now even slower than IE

Maybe it is, maybe it isn't, but that benchmark tells you nothing either way. The results rely on the network, and not the browser. I checked a couple pages, and Firefox was faster every time. Not that it matters, cause the results are worthless. It was likely just luck of the draw that it came up faster. Repeated results were all over the place in time, sometimes doubling in length.

Curious, what kind of Internet connection do you have? We primarily use IE, Firefox, and Chrome at my sites (~200 users) without any issue on any of them - everything pretty much loads up instantly no matter which browser they're using.

Do you have a lot of plugins setup in Firefox?

I use both and both have problems. There is no winner but there are two pretty decent products that I don't mind. No sense getting in a huff over which one is better.

The only leg up I see in a direction is Chrome since google released Chromecast and it is bloody amazing. I really wish google would be less of a douche and sell Chromecast in Canada.

There is no internet explorer browser which is faster or better than firefox 22 imo.

Look, if the difference was like a small amount where Chrome excels, I would have happily ignored it and stuck to FF as the interface to me is very important and Chrome has no chance in that department against FF, but the difference is night and day guys.

When I open a page in Chrome, the moment I click on that bookmark the page starts loading and within a sec or two BAM, everything is right infront of my eyes

with Firefox, when I click on a Bookmark, first it idles like 1 to 2 seconds before it will decide to start loading that page, that's the first lag, then the 2nd lag comes when actually loading the page, it does it in slow motion loading bits and pieces here and there. Chrome just splurts the entire page infront of you!

I have tried a few tweaks as well with no luck such as enabling RAM Cache instead of Disk Cache, increasing the maximum amount of connections, etc.

bottom line, I wish I can use FF but I can't, too slow for my liking

Bwuh? That means plenty to an end user. That benchmark is totally worthless because the testing methodology is complete bollocks.

Chrome isn't magically 50% faster than Firefox under the same repeatable, controlled conditions unless there's something wrong with your Firefox. They're both good browsers with different features and capabilities, and they both have their own set of issues as well. Personal preference and user needs continue to prevail as to which is the more appropriate choice.

Additional info if it helps j00

Chrome 28.0.1500.72

Firefox 22

No tweaks done except the tweak for Firefox to always display the latest version of a page:

In the Firefox address bar at the top, type about:config
Then type in browser.cache.check_doc_frequency
Change the value to 1 to force a cache refresh so that the page is refreshed automatically upon every visit.

Addons are the same for both browsers, AdBlock Plus, Xmarks, Last Pass, DoNotTrackMe, Google Browser Opt out, Thumbnain Zoom Plus

Give it time, the NSA will hijack your Chrome browser, too.

Kidding aside, there shouldn't be any delays when you click on bookmarks in FF, unless the destination server is busy or something. I have both FF22 and Chrome, and I don't experience any of your problems on FF. Try uninstalling your FF completely, delete any remaining registry entries, and try using FF again. Also, maybe the current version of one of the extensions is buggy on FF, so try adding one at a time and compare your bookmark clicking test to identify whatever is causing unusual delays.

Last time I tried Chrome I uninstalled it after about 15 min. That's how long it took me to realize it couldn't shine FF's shoes when it comes to customization and add-ons. FF may be a bit slower, but it is configured exactly as I want my browser.

Have you tried disabling all of your plugins in Firefox to see if that impacts the speed? Maybe it's a third-party plugin causing your speed issues.

You might have a compatibilty problem with your addons. I run FF and IE on my lappy and all FF, Chrome and IE on my gaming rig and they all seem snappy. I would have to give a slight edge to FF but it is still slight.

In this thread

I spoke of how slow is Firefox and started using Chrome

I couldn't live with it for more than 5 days...

after some trying.... I changed my default ISP's DNS to it's rival's DNS settings and voila!!! everything magically fell in to place and Firefox now opens website instantly without that 2 sec lag I talked about

sorry guys, it was my fault after all...

and I thank you all because when many people in that thread stated that their FF is fast with the same addons I have. I figured the issue must be elsewhere

FF FTW
