well, funny thing is, that the "asian" race she's talking about is probably chinese people (Which I am) and yes, this includes taiwanese people too. HOWEVER, I WILL SAY that they do not have their mothers and their extended family over the weekend to help them cook/clean/do laundry/etc. Those belong to some other type of asian.

She over generalizes Asians and combines them into one particular race... like it's as if we call all Germans "nazis". or better yet, call all white people "nazis". The thing is, I agree. Those chinese/taiwanese people in the library are literally defacing us Asians when they are loud in the library. It's not because they have poor manners or they've never been taught, but because these chinese/taiwanese parents want their children to have a better education, while they live in China/Taiwan.

So they leave them here, with a house to live in, and some money that'll take care of their food/rent/utilities, while they work in their native country. So the kids are like "party city! lemme go find more of my peeps in a similar situation (which is quite common) and let's have a ball!" Literally, they think they're invincible because they have no one watching their shoulders... Since the person with the most authority are their parents.

Anyways, I've yet to see a japanese person start talking loudly in the library, or Korean.... But then again, I'm sure they exist.

But that still doesn't give her the right to exploit and use derogatory means to spread the word. These kids exist, and probably always will. It's very impolite, and I'm sure the kids know this. But they just don't care, 'cause they can do whatever they want!

As an alum I'll tell you there are fvcking smart kids here. The premed, pre-biz (Haasholes), engineering kids.... holy crap. There are some serious smartasses here. I know I'm freaking smart myself but these kids run circles around me.

Then there are absolute idiots too. I lived with people who were on academic probation my first year. That was sad. First semester one roommate never went to class and played games 24/7. The next semester they partied too much and the other roommate went on AP. Hell that entire dorm building was filled with idiots. I never knew that such people were accepted. It's the whole diversity crap.

Top 10% in some high schools means top 10% of crowd like the Berkeley Engineering crowd. Top 10% in Oakland High means... something totally different.

So yeah, there's smart kids everywhere. From my experiences at UCLA and Berkeley, I'd say there are more nerds out at Berkeley and the cutthroatness is a bit more severe, but both schools have enough dumb people too.

Berkeley is leaps and bounds above UCLA academically and in reputation among employers in the tech industry. Of course, for other non-scientific disciplines, UCLA might be quite good but it pales in comparison to Cal in fields like Physics and Engineering. The Haas School of Business also trounces UCLA's Anderson MBA. Also, Berkeley's Financial Engineering Master's is the TOP in the nation.
