Do Asian parents give their grown adult children money on their birthdays?
Mine still does and I'm 40. Gifts of red envelopes is the best and easiest. Who doesn't want money rather than... another sweater. Here's the thing though, with the current Americanized generation, all such traditions are going away. It's seen as old-fashioned or "whatever mom".
My generation is the last to speak Chinese here anymore, despite my peers' best efforts at putting their kids in Chinese school. Can't use it daily, it gets forgotten. Sad in a way.
Speaking of racism, I heard that Asians get a lot of racism from other Asians from different countries. Is there any truth to that?
As an asian-american, not really. We team up against the white folks when needed, but that's about it. But I know my dad hates Japanese based on Nanking, etc. For a while, he wouldn't even go to Japanese restaurants (which are run by Chinese for the most part, BTW).
Why can't your people drive?
We also make fun of "DWA" - Driving While Asian. Asian females especially. But hey, I can drive. It's all about being decisive and I learned that at a young age. My wife is ok other than hard accel & braking that I always give her crap for. DWA.
