Are you South Korean?

Opinion on SE Asians? Thai, Vietnan, Cambodian, Laos. Who do you like?

I've lived in both Thailand and South Korea. Koreans are hypercompetitive, Thais tend to be more laid back. I've also dated Thais. They can be a little nutty, and they want MONEY!
Hookers want money. And they're unstable. Have sex with hookers but never date them.

The office where I work is maybe 10-15 minutes from an H Mart. It's the opposite direction as home though, so I don't wind up going out that way very often.

There are like half a dozen Korean BBQs between the office and home though ... so I do stop by from time to time. It helps that beer like OB or Hite is pretty neutral and generally tends to compliment spicy foods really nicely.

I've developed a bit of an obsession with Nakji Bokkeum as of late, however I think gamjatang might just be my overall favorite Korean food that I've had the pleasure of eating. Of course stuff like Bulgogi is amazing as well. Very much a noob when it comes to Korean foods, a lot more on my list of "things to try" than "things I have tried", but, eventually I hope to learn the cuisines
I would say you're far from a Korean food noob if you know and like nakji bokkeum and gamjatang. Most people only know Korean BBQ dishes. Nakji bokkeum and gamjatang are advanced level as most non-Koreans have never heard of it and even if they have, it's way too spicy for them. I haven't had enough nakji bokkeum in the US or Korea to say where's it's better but gamjatang is way better in Korea than in the US. It's amazing dish in Korea and great to eat in cold weather as the hot spices and stew will warm you up as you gnaw on the pig neck and spine bones. Plus it's great food to eat while drinking with friends so the alcohol warms you up too.

Well I envy your access! Any time I have to return to Maryland I always gorge on all the Korean I can, tend to stick with non-seafood items though. Have never tried gamjatang although I've heard it's amazing. I like ox tail, so... I feel like I need to sponsor a Korean family who wants to open a restaurant. Having regular access to authentic bulgogi and jakbol is something I really miss. Agree on the Hite too.

You ever do the san nakji challenge?
San nakji is child's play. You just have to be careful as you can choke on the raw octopus if you're unlucky. I'm flying from Atlanta to Busan, South Korea, next spring just to eat fresh seafood. I've never been to Busan but I hear they have amazing fresh seafood. So I booked a flight and hotel and all I will be doing for 5 days there is eating all the delicious seafood. That's the sole purpose of the trip.

Thanks

I consider myself a noob because I only know a few dishes, and we tend to go pretty rarely since the wife is intimidated by the menu usually as she dislikes spicy foods usually.
I love more or less any pork bone soup and octopus is more or less one of my favorite meats due to the interesting texture and flavor (Also seek out good goat dishes), so I tend to try those things whenever I see them.
I forget the proper names for them, and have to look up "what is that delicious stir fried octopus called"

In any case I like food, probably too much, since I have been battling with my weight my entire life.

Anthropology theory is that oriental squinty eyes evolved from early ancestor snow-ice environment . . as compared to masturbating too frequently. What say you?

Speaking of racism, I heard that Asians get a lot of racism from other Asians from different countries. Is there any truth to that?

Huh. This is true of our entire world. It is human nature.

Brite Scots Welsh Irish all hate each other. Pick any region. How about Africa or south america.

I guess I'm just an ignorant white guy in America, I've never been a victim of racism from other white guys before. From what little I know it is just as rare for blacks to be victims of racism from other blacks, I don't know nearly as many Latinos so I don't really have any information about them.

Did you know that a pretty signifiacant amount of Northern Europens also furiously masterbated?

My maternal grandmother, and like ... 2/3 of all her descendents have Epicanthic folds.
She's from Norway where they are quite common. (something about furiously masterbating to fight off snow blindness.)

Are you kidding?

Blacks are super racist to other blacks. I thought that was common knowledge. Last month I talked to a guy who was born in the U.S. but who's family came from Nigeria. He described how the non-black community treated him for being black, but even worse was how the black community rejected him for being African and dark-skinned. Ironically, they claimed that he wasn't "black" because he was "African." I knew a guy who lived in the Caribbean and he said that the blacks there would self-segregate depending on the darkness of their skin color with even family members refusing to acknowledge any relationship with their darker siblings. It's insane how racist some blacks are to each other.

I was hoping you would link to some research about body types over the world.
And the food consumption and amount of calories taken in each day of course.
But young women looking old at 25 , that is mostly lifestyle. Every night going out, drinking alcohol, smoking and not enough sleep. Add in MCdonalds 5 times a week. And then eating nothing that replenishes vitamines and minerals because they are getting too fat. Yeah, a recipe to look old and waisted while being at the magical age because of robbing the body from all its surpluss of life energy.
Of course, add in lots of sun tanning.
And of course stressing over non issues which is amplified with social media.
Drugs is a perfect example to age.
Take a look at how the average addict looks.

Indeed. If you hear people speak all over the world without seeing them, you expect a redneck KKK member. But then you turn around and no longer is discriminating based on skin tan a white thing.
It happens everywhere in every country with every race.

Besides, if it is not a bout skin color, it is body type or because someone has a pair of spectacles or freckles... Yada yada yada...

It's true. We blue eyed folk are traditionally pretty wary of The Burn, but I and others are working to change this. See Carolina Reaper, Pepper X, etc. I can go up the scale to about Trinidad Scorpion before I tap out. Never came across anything Korean that I couldn't handle with a little help from my buddy Hite.

San nakji is child's play. You just have to be careful as you can choke on the raw octopus if you're unlucky. I'm flying from Atlanta to Busan, South Korea, next spring just to eat fresh seafood. Maybe it's my fault, my knowledge of the language/hangul is rudimentary. I'm not talking about a plate of wriggling tentacles, I'm talking about that whole 'wrap the entire animal around your chop sticks, try to get it all down in one go' situation. Trying to eat something both alive and renowned for muscular tenacity is, IMO, requiring a bit more gumption than your standard bowl of duk. I think if it were easy people wouldn't have died from it in the past. For the record I don't have a problem with octopus, I have eaten it cooked and raw. It's the non-tentacle portions I take issue with. But I looooove jjajangmyeong. I feel like that's weird.
Anyway, sounds like an awesome trip, I'm quite literally contemplating something similar now. Might have to wait until after I take fam to Scotland, might not involve Busan, but it will be Korea. Been too long since I had a cuisine pilgrimage.

Hmm you think white women look old is due to their lifestyle? Koreans have awful lifestyle with insane work hours and endless soju drinking, and partying your face off.

Asian Americans have similar lifestyle as 'white women' in US. Not sure if I agree.

I was shocked to learn Brie Larson (Kong Skull Island) was barely 27 when she looked 40. Look at those crow's feet connecting to her chin wrinkles.

My wife at 30, no photoshop - just color correction.

White women looking old fast is not even an opinion. It's almost a meme that lots of folks acknowledge online. Kind of like "blacks don't crack" and asians having smaller penis.

On the male side, I'm about as white as white can get being mostly German with a hint of English. I'm a year away from 40 and people think I'm in my mid to late twenties.
