Basically I am going to be doing some projects and I have used PHP before. I am hoping to do some integration with Active Directory as well. I have touched ASP before, but not immensly, I will also be using dreamweaver for developing. Any suggestions?

I guess I am not sure. I am the only one working on this as of right now, so I guess the decision is mine to make. Is one easier to learn, are they similar, any reason not to go with one?

No, classic ASP/vbscript is a world apart from ASP.Net

Classic ASP is antiquated and not as robust. If you're going to be doing Windows/IIS web development, go with ASP.Net in the language of your choice (primarily VB.Net or C#.Net). Sorry that I don't have any book recommendations though... I do everything "hands on" with Google (and hopefully this forum now) as a reference

That is basically how I learned PHP! I did end up with a couple good PHP books in the end though...

Anyone else?

If you are going to go with asp.net you should definately grab Visual Studio from microsoft's website (they have a free version now).

While somewhat antiquated, Classic ASP can be quite powerful if properly written.
That said, ASP.Net is a much more marketable skill, but has a steeper learning curve (and all sorts of odd bugaboos in various stages of development).

For a step toward the Active Directory integration do a search for User.Identity.IsAuthenticated or User.Identity.Name.

I found a couple pages on that site. I think I will probably go with classic ASP. I agree .net would be a more marketable skill, but I do more networking, I am just helping out on this project...
