JS posted this same dvd player a little while back and I went ahead and bought it. It's pretty decent except it's a little slow to read and load and it always seems to launch with subtitles on. More annoyances than anything.

I bought an AD-1100 when they had a $20 rebate a while back and it was an utter POS. The front drive door flips open when you eject the DVD and 90% of the time it would stick on the tray when it closed again. After about 2-3 months (and being used 4-5 times) it stopped being able to play DVDs at all (would lock up on loading every DVD).

I bought one of these (Aspire AD-1000 a few weeks ago. So far I have been very pleased with it.

Sorry but this unit is entirely different from the AD-1100 mechanism, which, btw, has been an excellent unit since purchase last December. Sounds like you just got a "bad one.""( I've been waiting to get another AD-1100, but it's only been on sale briefly a couple months ago. - I'd like a PM if anyone sees it back on sale again)

The r/c's look the same though. And I had that issue with the subtitle option being "saved" in memory, but found it disappeared after turning the unit off and unplugging it for a minute or so.
