How's the quality control of this Aspire X-Qpack and Aspire in general.

There seem to be a fair number of people getting damaged or defective cases at NewEgg's customer reviews?

Also, how well finished does the exterior of this case look? Does it look expensive or cheap and how do you guys think it will stand up over time?

I've read reviews that said the X-Qpack is pretty nice looking except the front plastic looks cheap.

IMO aluminum cases don't stand up well over time. They are more easily scratched.

That may be true, but it's light and portable! I don't like the Aspire versions, so I'll prolly get the Chenmings

Has any one seen the X-QPACK red model? I think it would be a nice box to replace my wife's ancient system but I wonder if it is a nice red color or something that hurts your eyes... The pictures on the web sites don't really help much, or may be I don't trust what I see.

I just ordered one of these after seeing my friend get one last week, and then reading AT's glowing review. I am planning on modding it pretty severely to fit a DFI LANParty NF4 Ultra board (turned 90 degrees, so the I/O ports are on the side, rather than in back). I'm hoping to fit a full ATX PSU (24 pin, of course) in there, as well as a Zalman 7000 and a 6600GT with an Arctic Cooling Silencer.

Can you guys think of any obvious roadblocks that I'm not considering?

Modding a mATX case to take a ATX board has a pretty obvious roadblock IMNSHO. If you're dead set on it, you might want to consider the Chenming version -- fewer windows may make cutting out PCI brackets a bit easier and give you more support after the fact.

I had not realized it was April 1st again.

The fact that the motherboard is larger than the case and would stick out a few inches.

Actually, I think the ATX mobo is 9.45" x 12" and the X-Qpack is 14" x 10.2", so turning it sideways may work.

What kind of MoBo are kicking in that beast of yours?

I'm about 1 click away from purchasing the red/rust colored, but I want to get an idea as to what kind of MoBo AT-ers outfitting their portables with.

My main concern is that the PSU would not suffice a x800xl + AMD 64 3200 CPU. As gay as this may sounds, I have a stock OEM cooler that would do the trick for now, though that Zalman setup you got is cock-tastic!

i personally think the x-qpack look s nicer than the aria when i've seen them up close. dont know about build quality but i cant think they are too different.

the power supply in there is the standard atx screw layout, but its ps3 form factor which isnt as deep. could be a squeeze with some dvd/cdrom drives if you use a standard psu. some inwin microatx towers user this same type of psu and i know thats a problem in those (used to have inwin v500)

Bought this in silver from Newegg and have installed a Biostar PV4VMA-M Socket 478 mobo. However, the 20-pin power connector is an inch or two too short to plug into the main mobo power connector, although the 12V power connector just makes it. So consider the geometry of the mobo you choose, or get an extender.

Hi.. the Memorex is shorter, the NEC is normal lenght.. it's tight, but not to the point of where I can not remove a cable if needed.. it's seimple enough to remove the power supply regardless...

In my X-Qpack case, I have the following:

Aspire PSU (REAL nice, btw)
ABIT SG-80
Intel Pentium 4 2.8GHz with Zalman CNPS7000
1GB TwinMOS ram
BFG GeForce 6800GT OC
Sound Blaster Audigy Gamer
Leadtek WinFast 2000 Tv tuner.
Pioneer DVD+/-RW
some random floppy

its kind of a mess to work with but once you get it.. damn its worth the wait!

GREAT CASE!
