The list at the link is the same as the official Asrock list. I was curious about running a Wolfdale core processor. I have the beta bios installed. I see you posted alot about that bios. My question is, are only the e5xxx and e7xxx supported, or can any Wolfdale core run? Specifically I was looking at the e6600. I am trying to get a processor above 2.5GHz without overclocking. And the Wolfdale core processors are a decent price compared to the conroe ones.

@schi0249:

I'd choose from this list. The E5xxx series should have something along what you're looking for. The Wolfdale E6300 (not the old Core2Duo of the same name) has a good rep.

I myself last upgraded to an E7600, since I need the boost from the more recent Intel SSE instruction sets to run console emulators smoothly, and the HW support for virtual machines improves performance on that score. Not too cheap, so I went eBay and snagged it for not much.

ETA: Be sure to steer clear of the 1333Mhz versions.

ETAA: Didn't see the latest posts since I followed my email link to an older one. IMO, the E6600 should work!.

E5xxx Wolfdales perform better than the 4xxx series, and are cheaper

Forget the old Conroe E6300 @ 1.86!!

The E7xxx procs you list are a little slower than what your son wanted for gaming, so some OCing required.

In short, I'd go with the E5700, or keep shopping. Got my E7600 for under $60, iirc.

Hi guys, I know this is an old topic, but I have a ASRock 4CoreDual-SATA2 motherboard with the 2.10 BIOS update for the CPU code. Can I still use this unofficial BIOS update even though my motherboard not a VSTA model? What is does the VSTA stand for? I upgraded my CPU and AGP video card and need to flash to the offical 2.10 for my motherbaord to detect the new CPU. How my flight simulator keeps having major stuttering with the new graphic card Radeon 4670HD compared to the older Radeon X1950 Pro. I also would like to try 4gigs of memory too.

@Deltatristar500,

NEVER use a BIOS that is not for your exact make, model, and revision of motherboard. I am in a rush and don't have time to find a link, but the ASRock BIOS's are now in the forums over at pc-treiber.net, so you'll need to search there for the latest.

hey guys, i know this thread is kinda old, but maybe there are still people who can help me out.
i got my 4coredual-sata2 r2.0 mb yesterday, it could boot to windows and etc. but it hanged up once windows xp loaded.
so i formatted partition then, it was running good on clean windows xp sp3, no hang ups and stuff.
then i installed windows 7, and it started to hang up after the installation was finished.. just like always, cant do nothing but reset.
i thought it was some ram problem, because i put one ddr stick in ddr2 slot because it was fitting, i decided to put it to the yellow ddr1 slot but it wouldnt come in, so i got a little pissed and pushed it,
then i turned on the pc.
it was running for like 7-8 seconds, screen was off etc.
and like i said, after 7-8 it just turns itself off
i pulled off the battery for few seconds and then put it back in, doesnt work either..

any ideas?

(i put back old 775v88+ now and it runs good on w7 ultimate 64bit with Celeron D 346 @ 3,21GHz, ATI Radeon HD3450 AGP 512mb, Samsung SP1203N and Modecom Feel III 500W active PFC, my ram sticks are goodram 1gb pc3200 DIMM, and a 512mb noname one.)

please help me, i cant really buy another motherboard and i need this one to upgrade my pc

At least get a matching pair of DDR1 OR DDR2 sticks, and install everything with all the care not shown so far. I'd recommend getting a PC enthusiast to help with your build ~ too many things can go wrong.

// A bit off-topic.

Wanted to express my appreciation for all the splendid input here.

I actually got the 4coredual-sata2 up and running with a kingston and a corsair stick (800 mhz + 1066), 1 + 2 gig, but the moment I put in 2 kingston 2 gigs each it fails to boot.

Also running a GTX 460 on it with the excellent advice posted ealier by i am jwk. Thanks dude.
(tested with both an Inno3d and Gainward 256-bit cards)

This has been one hell of a fun ride.

Enjoy dude

Thanks dude and I am.
Learned one or two things or more in the process.
It is more of an experiment for me, but I would hate to see the mobo go. Anyway not the last piece of Asrock I'm gonna get and I got this dirt cheap.

Allo! I've just got a ASRock 4CoreDual SATA2 Rev 2.00 MainBoard, an Intel Q6600 (G0) and a matched set of OCZ Platinum 2Gb RAM (2x PC3200 1Gb 2 3 2 5) with a Sapphire HD3850 AGP card and a 400Gb IBM SATA2 HDD. I built the machine turned it on and it POST first time, so I flashed the BIOS to 2.20A thanx to a link off this site to PC-TRIEBER. Booted again and tried to run a W7 install a few times and failed as the Windows Setup Progam keeps crashing at expanding files saying a "File is Missing" which I know it's not and the HDD is 100%. I went back into the BIOS and UNDERCLOCKED the CPU to 250 FSB, left the RAM at DDR200 and locked up the AGP/PCI bus to 66 - auto voltages on everything, and I got it to boot of a CD into MINI W7 which is what im running now. I daren't try an install W7 onto the HDD in case of drive errors cos of the problem with the system clocks. Another thing, I noticed the System Time keeps jumping forward 3/4 hrs!!! It currently says in the task bar that it's 08:15am when it is in fact 4am!? And thats after I've performed a time update! Please help, I've been building systems since the days of DOS 2 and 286's and I'll be damned if I know whats going on, I thought it might be the RAM but as I've 2 sets of Dual Channel OCZ RAM and they're both 100% - I know the RAMS tip-top.

@b1gt1m,

Sounds like a BIOS, RAM or HD connection problem. I'd set BIOS to defaults, use a single stick of RAM, and check all cabling. If no go, change to another SATA port, then swap the SATA cable if still no go. Then swap RAM sticks, swap RAM slots, etc.

Last time I had anything remotely similar was high South Bridge sensitivity to even minor overclocks on a VIA Apollo Pro board, leading to a corrupted HD.

Allo Hlaf, yea i sort of had the same idea-i used different RAMand still had the same problem so the RAM is fine, I think it may be that the SATA1 HDD port on the board itself may have been worked loose so I'll change over to the SATA2 port. Just a point tho, I managed to get the system to boot off a CDFS version of Mini W7 - by setting the FSB to 250 and the RAM to DDR333 2.5-3-2-5 but as soon as i ramped up the FSB upto 266 - errors again! WEIRD? I'll keep yer informed. ;-)

Well, I seemed to have cured the problem - I dropped the clock ratio from x9 to x8 - an now it runs like a dream!!!? The CPU is a Q6600 (G0) an is supposed to run at x9 ratio as standard!? Weird? Any thoughts...

Do a search on this thread for that CPU, which iirc behaved strangely on these boards; autounderclocked, I believe.

At any rate, in gral set cpu multiplier to lowest and increase fsb and play with memory timings and DDR values to get your best stable mem setting, checking to see the interplay of DDR, multiplier and FSB in CPUz. Once you reach the highest stable settings, increase cpu multiplier to highest value still stable under OCCT or Prime 95.

Dont forget to also read this thread for all the proper bios settings.

Allo Hlaf! Brilliant! Thanks for the input an I'll do it now, I know some of the BIOS settings and have set em accordingly, the RAM I'm using can be OC'd up to DDR600ish from DDR400 and thats at 2.5 3 2 5 guaranteed!!! I'll lock up the AGP clock at 66, the RAM and AGP voltage to normal, drop the RAM divider too DDR333 and turn up the FSB to 300 which will bring the RAM upto DDR400 (Standard) again - then take the FSB to around 320ish, all the time the CPU multiplier will be at x7 then I'll push the multiplier up a bit an let you know how I get on... oh an to all other users who are inexperienced at this - for the above guide - YER WELCOME!!!! ;-)
