Hi all.

I upgraded the BIOS from 220 to 220a yesterday. All the expected options were available after flashing, and all appeared well. But the computer wouldn't boot - all I got after the BIOS and RAID screens was a flashing cursor in the top left corner of the screen. I flashed back to 220 and all is fine again.

Has anybody else experienced this, or any ideas how to fix it?

Thanks.

So is it just me or do the links to the old threads not work anymore?

I am wanting to strip back my Asrock system to it's original set up, and I am sure my original set up details for Bios were in the old 4coreSata2 threads.

Update,

Found the old thread!

I found the settings I was wondering about, now wondering if there is a newer improved BIOS for the Asrock 4CoreDual Sata-II motherboard? (I currently have PC Trieber L2.13 bios)

Currently running the E5200 at 2.8Ghz with a 12.5 multi FSB 225.0mhz rated fsb of 900.0mhz, with 2x2Gb of Corsair PC-6400C5 at 300.0mhz with a DRAM of 3:4 and 4.4.4.12 2T timings. (W7 shows 4Gb installed and 3.25Gb useable)

Graphics = Sapphire ATI Radeon HD 4870 1024MB GDDR5 Toxic Edition PCI-Express Graphics Card, running stock.

Drives are a Samsung 640 GB and a WD 1.5 TB green.

OS is Windows 7 64bit.

Samsung IDE DVD drive and an M-Audio 2596 soundcard.

I am thinking of going back to using 2x1GB of Corsair XMS Pro PC3500LL memory and an HIS IceQ 3850 AGP graphics card, with a Corsair 450w modular PSU for a media PC. Inside a Silverstone LC13 case. Any thoughts worth considering?

I was thinking of this as a temporary sollution, I have a Gigabyte p45 mobo and an E6300 to use in another build, both the above and this will be temporary, but I am considering one staying as a Media PC.

I am wondering if anyone has any opinions on the HIS HD 4670 IceQ 1Gb AGP graphics card versus the old 3850 HIS IceQ AGP card I have?
I know the PCI-E slot in the Asrock mobo is limited to 4X? and as such there is not much benefit over AGP I believe with this board? I did see some performance gains with my PCI-E 4870 1gb toxic, but thats going into the P45 board. I had thought of a Powercolor 5750 passive card PCI-E for HTPC too?

I am also wondering what Bios allows the newer E6300 to be used with the Asrock?

The latest official BIOS is 2.20. The modded version is 2.20A, which didn't work for me (see above). Your experience may differ of course.

I've got a 1GB HD4670 AGP. I couldn't compare it to the 3850 (having never owned one), but I doubt there'd be much between the two. These aren't the fastest boards anyway . I picked AGP because I haven't the funds, and can't be bothered, to upgrade anytime soon. And AGP 8x has twice the bandwidth of PCI-E 4x. My 4670 seems to score exactly the same as PCI-E versions.

The AGP version is typically more expensive than the PCI-E version, so I'm not sure why limited funds would have caused you to buy the more expensive card. And AGP 8x is roughly the same bandwidth as PCI-E 4x. AGP 8x = 2133MB/sec and PCI-E 4x = 2000MB/sec (aggregate).

I got it for a price very similar to a PCI-E version. As for the limited funds, I would want to build a whole new system (possibly keeping the Q6600), and I can't afford to do that right now. Neither can I justify it for the amount I use the machine.

Most sources quote PCI-E 4x at 1000 MB/sec. The figure of double that comes from simultaneous 2-way traffic, which I guess is of very limited use to a graphics card. In any case, my machine performs as well as one with the PCI-E version of the same card. Compatibility with the board was also a concern, and the AGP cards have no problems. So I'm happy with my choice.

Hello people!

Like many we are lucky to find those forums just when something bad occours

As many here i did some economical update to my old PC with this components:

- ASROCK 4COREDUAL-SATA2 R2.0 - SOCKET LGA 775 PARA INTEL - CHIPSET VIA PT880 - ATX
- INTEL CORE 2 QUAD Q8400 - 2,66 GHZ, CACHE L2 4 MB SOCKET LGA775
- SAPPHIRE TECHNOLOGY RADEON HD 3850 512 MB GDDR3 AGP
- CORSAIR Memory PC VALUE SELECT 4 GB (KIT 2 X 2 GB) DDR2-SDRAM PC 5300 CL5
- 2 HDD SATA 120Gb and 180Gb

This was perfectly performing until yesterday, well... almost..., i had some sort of issue after installing XP Pro, because shutdown of system hanged on "closing" screen even hearing the sound of it shuting down, then i had to push the button to go off, but all the UBS ports of the MB remain active, and that was strange!

As i was caught by some sort of Virus that messed up XP i decided to reinstall the OS and my brilliant idea was to update MB BIOS to the latest to try to fix at liest the USB problem.

I used the Windows version of BIOS and all went exactly as expected, than a window appeared saying it was successful and i should restart my computer, i did and nothing happent since than!
I hear the sound of fans but screen remains black, and there is no sign of information to be received from PC to Display, even with graphic card fan and leds working fine.
No sound of Hard-disk starting, no sound of any beep.

I already cleared CMOS as indicated by manual, but nothing occours!

Do any of you know how to work around this problem?
How to revert to factory BIOS?

Hey, I know this is the wrong place to ask this but figured it would draw more interest her. I have a Asrock 4core dual-sata2 board that when removed it was working great but is missing that metal hold down plate for the cpu. If some one wants it just pay the actual cost of shipping (I figured would be anywhere from 12-17 dollars depending where you live) you can have it as I was just going to throuw it away. If interested PM me.

edit...its gone now.

Cool thread! It's back!

Anyways,

I want to upgrade my 775-DualVSTA BIOS from 3.10 to the latest version (3.19a).

This german site:

http://www.pctreiber.net/artik...ei-asrock-motherboards

shows how to flash it to the newer BIOS. Which is better doing it through Windows or DOS?

I downloaded 4.22 Winflasher and the 3.19a BIOS. Going this route would be successful?

I did this just now..I updated from 2.10 to 3.19a using the 4.40 winflasher..I liked the win over the dos...seems like it gives you a better feeling about what is going on.

Also my setup is the 775Dual-VSTA with E6400 CPU and the 9800GT video card with 2GB ram..and I am running a dual-boot system with Windows XP and Windows 7. So far so good - no problem..I use the XP side for gaming and the Win7 side for everything else.

My Son has the 4coredual-vsta bios 1.70 running the E2140 cpu and a GTS250 (512mb) video card...and 2GB of ram.

Hi folks,

I was wondering if anybody here has successfully got a large capacity hard drive i.e. 1 - 1.5 TB from either WD or Seagate working properly on their Asrock 4CoreDual-Sata2. If so, what make/model were you using? (i.e. Green drive, black drive, etc)....

(I was thinking of upgrading my 500 gig HD to one of these new terrabyte drives, preferably a 1.5 TB drive.)

Thanks!

Finally sorted my password issues here.

I have two 1 TB harddrives running on my mobo, the first is a Samsung HD103UJ, and
the other is a Seagate ST31000528AS.
Both have no probs whatsoever, I run XP on the Samsung, Windows 7 on the Seagate, and on a 200GB ide I have Linux Ubuntu 9.10.
I just use the Boot selection menu to choose what hdd I wish to boot from.

Hi there:

With Bios 2.20a on 4coredual-SATA2, I currently have a Seagate 1.5T (yeah, the notorious 11th gen, I did RTM it after 11 months because of bad clusters but it works) and a Hitachi 2T on it, simultaneously. I don't used RAID. No HD recognition or capacity problems so far.

Hello I am having trouble getting my rig stable with 4gigs of ram here is my setup Asrock4core-Sata2
bios 2.17, cpu E1400, gpu ATI3850 agp, HD 200gig samsung IDE, power supply
500 OCZ. As of this moment I have 2 gigs of ddr 400 ram in it but I have a kit of mushkin
silverline ddr2 800 EM2-6400 that I would like to use but when I put it in I get random restarts that i never get with ddr400. The timings on the mushkin are 5-5-5-12 do I need to set this manually or make adjustment to the voltages. Nothing is overclocked
at all. Also I am running XP on this thinking about switching to Vista will that hurt performance. I have three computers in the home all faster than this one but I find that I use this one way more seems to have more character if that is possible. Always wanted one of these boards when they first came out now my other rigs are kinda blah.

These mobo's work best with ddr2 that runs at 1.8v, You could try in bios putting the dram voltage to max though, I think is 2.0v. Manually inputting the ram timings is a good idea too.
From what I have learn't reading the forums here, these boards and ddr2 can be a bit of hit and miss, You will only get a max useable of 3.25 gig even with 4 gig ram.
Secondly why would You want to cripple it with Vista, I have Win7 on mine with only 2 gig ddr1, and I can tell You it is a massive improvement over Vista, I did tweak mine for max OS performance though, as I do with every windows installation.

Thanks for the feedback on the large hard drives. I think I'll get a pair of 1TB WD Blacks... Good to know they work on this board!

Hi guys. This is my first post here. First of all, this is one great site and I am glad to have found it. I own 4coredual-vsta (2.30 official), and I`m planning to upgrade from Pentium 4 3.0GHz to Dual core E6300 2.8GHz. Is it possible at all? I see that pctreiber has this http://www.pctreiber.net/filebase.php?fileid=3260&lim=40 bios update. Can anyone clear it up how to update bios step by step from windows? I don`t speak german. And is it possible to reflash asrock´s bios if something goes wrong? Newb...

Thanks everyone.

After this post I tried to install Win Vista or win 7 with a IDE HD but I receive a message when selecting the HD that I can´t install on the HD, and to see in the BIOS if the controller is installed, every time I turn on the PC I get the following messages:
"MAC ADDRESS are invalid in both cmos and flash!"
Press f1 to Resume
Error 5037
Then I get Error 0078 but I´m allowed to press F2, any way I can´t install any OS neither get the SATA disk to work (it freezes when POST). Any idea?

Don't know if you still get a notification or reading this thread, but what proc are you using ?

Yes I know now, but it isn't it weird that the processor boots and all without any warning ? It runs only on lower speed, 1066x8.5 instead of 1333x8.5.
