flexibility was enabled and when i turned it off the ram stayed at 200 fsb. I then tried setting mem to Auto and its now running at 266 which is still not 333. Fellas what bios options do i need to change to manually set the timings.

Set memory to DDRII667

Set Flex to disable

DRAM CAS to the CAS Latency of your ram. 3-5
Percharge to Active TRP usually 3-5
Active to Percharge TRAS is the higher number usually 12-18
Active to CMd TRCD usually 3-5

This means if your ram has timings of 5-5-5-18 then CAS = 5, TRP = 5, TRAS = 18 and TRCD = 5

You can leave Bank interleave on auto, or set it to 4way if manual.
Command Rate leave at 2T
DRAM Bus selection set to Dual Channel.

The rest can be left on auto and the bios will select the correct numbers.

This is what mine is set at and im running 667 with Corsair Twinx2 DDR800 modules in DC mode.

no such luck here, with 5-5-5-15 settings it reverted to 197 fsb :-( tried pretty much everything but no go..
what a pisser... The ram is Ocz Pro dual channel optimized and has 5-5-5-15 right on its sticker ?!?!?!?!?!?

Hoskins,

Just read your past few posts..

I am running the the 1.50bios (what the board came with).

The memory tab in CPU-Z program shows 274.7mhz, 1:1 and 4-4-4-12-2T timings.
I am running (2 x 1gig) PNY Optima DDR2-667 memory.

When I first fired the board up, I believe I did nothing but set the fsb in the BIOS to manual and set it to 266mhz and it "just worked". I now have it set to 275mhz.

You might want to try reseting the BIOS with the jumper and see if that resolves it.

With the memory you have, you should have no trouble running at the 1:1 ratio.

You definetly DO NOT want the flexibility option enabled. I tried this on my machine and it set the fsb/memory ratio to 4:3 which sounds like what your getting.

Leave all the memory settings in the BIOS to AUTO.

I think I have the V-link speed set to fast and the memory voltage set to the normal setting.

Please run cpu-z on your machine at the defaul 5% underclock and post what you see under the memory tab.

Meanwhile, I'll go through my bios setting to see if I played with anything else and put them up in another post.

the bios has been reset with clear cmos jumper at least 10 times today because pc was failing to boot with new changes.

right now the CPU is running at @ (according to cpu-z) 2400.7 mhz and 266.7 fsb and 1067 rated fsb with fsb set to manual 266.
The memory is set to auto with flex disabled and running at 1:1 4-4-4-12 @ 266.7, any manual setttings i apply just makes it fail to boot.

Yup its an ok board for moving between AGP and PCI-e but as soon as my AGP card is finished I will be ditching this mobo and grabing a P35 one.

So tempted to do it now but think I'll wait till the new year to see where the market is at.

I am haveing:

-Asrock 4COreDual-SATA2
-Intel Q6600
-2x1gb Geil Ultra 800mhz

...and CPU is still running at 2.26Ghz... i disabled the flexibility optinon in BIOS and its still the same. The BIOS is 1.60a. I reset the bios putting the battery out for couple of seconds. Can someone tell me what BIOS settings should i have that my CPU will work at normal speed (2.40Ghz) ?

From ASRock CPU Support Chart (which has an asterisk next to all quad-core models):

*When you adopt Quad Core CPU, FSB may be reduced 5%

266MHz - 5% = 252MHz

252MHz * 9.0 = 2268MHz

I know this seems to be a 'spec' thread but I need some help with my mobo and this seems to be used often.
I just bought this and everything worked great out of the box. The only problem I have is it wont recognize 2 sticks of ram. I first put in 2 sticks of ddr and it only recognized one stick. I then removed them and tried using the ddr II ram I had. Again, only one stick was recognized. I pulled the Ram out of the slot that was recognized in BIOS and tried to boot off the ram that wasnt recognized.... no boot. So i moved that stick to the 1st slot and then it booted fine. So it appears to recognize ram put in slots 1 and 2, but not 3 and 4. The ddr II is 677 mhz, and they are both the exact same model.
Im thinking it must be either some setting in bios I havent set, or the board is faulty. Before I pack it back up and ship it off, i wanted to see if anyone else had this problem. Thanks....

All righty then...

I have a Q6600 booting at 275 bus speed. (2.472 Ghz)
I can set it higher in the BIOS but around the mid 280's XP stops booting. Once the OS boots I can set it higher using the SetFSB utility up to 300 or so.

My system is configured as follows:
The CPU is Q6600 ACLR G0
It has the stock Intel HSF
I have a 500w XConnect Power Supply
...an ATI AIW 9000 AGP
...2x1 gig of PNY DDR-2 memory
The memory package states (PC2-5300 DDR2-677/533/400)
Two hard drives installed, one is SATA and the other is IDE.
...DVD burner and a regular DVD installed on the secondary ide channel.

Here are my Bios settings:
(Note: assume "AUTO" for everything I do not list here)

Bios Rev is 1.50

CPU settings:
FSB Manual 275mhz
PCIE CLK Sync CPU
AGP/PCI 66/33
Spread Spectrum Disabled
Boot Failure Guard Enabled
Max CPUID Value Limit Disabled
No Execute Mem Protection Enabled

Chipset settings:
Flexibility Option Disabled
DRAM Command Rate 2T
DRAM Voltage Normal
AGP Voltage Normal
Primary Graphics AGP
AGP Fast Write Enabled
AGP Aperture 64mb
Vlink Fast
Vlink Auto Disconnect Enabled
PCI Delay Trans Enabled
IDE Drive Strength Normal
Onboard Lan Enabled
CDin Enabled

Advanced Mem Config All items set to "AUTO"
Host Config All items set to "AUTO"

CPU-Z Utility reports:

2472 MHZ
x9.0
274.7 bus speed
1099 fsb
Core Voltage hovers around 1.248V
FSBRAM 1:1
4-4-4-12-2T timing

I am not sure why you (and some others) can't run the Q6600 at the full speed. I do know that there appears to be at least two types of this board.
The difference was discussed earlier in this thread. It seems that there are two types PLL clock generators used.

My board has the ICS953002DFLF chip. This is what I select in the Setfsb utility.

Maybe I just got lucky with the right set of sub components.
Hope the above helps.

HI.

Finally got round to doing the BSEL mod to my E4500.

It seems the bios screwup with the 200fsb E2180 might also affect the E4500.
I could only get to 2.8ghz stable in Vista, and my memory settings DID NOT alter no matter what i had flexability set to.

My memory remained set at 1:1 ratio no matter what.

Several people tried to tell me i was doing things wrong, and refused to accept that the lack of control with flexability and the loss of 1gig ram above 270fsb was down to me.

It now seems that it is the motherboard - now more people are having problems with 200fsb cpu`s.

Asrock need to sort this out.

Having done the BSEL mod my E4500 is now seen as a 266fsb chip ( still reads E4500 )and clocks in at a default 2920mhz. It also alters my memory speed depending on flex on or off. On gives me a 200fsb on the ram and off gives me 266 on the ram.

I am at default volts, which for me is 1.28v and everything appears to be very stable. I play Guildwars a lot, and it is very sensative to memory timings and overclocking, and would often kick me out to the desktop before.

Anyone having problems getting above the 240-260fsb mark with a 200mhz fsb chip should try the BSEL mod. It definately does more than just alter the default fsb of the chip - it totaly alters the way the motherboard reads the chip and sets certain parimiters differently.

I now have full control of memory ratio`s which i didnt before, and i have no doubt that i can hit 3gig without upping the volts.

A VERY BIG THANKYOU TO FARFLE for suggesting the BSEL mod might cure the stability/lack of control with 200fsb chips. He was correct in assuming this board does not read them correctly.

Now on to another question.

I see from Asrocks site that the ATI hd 2900xt is supported but what about the newer updated ATI HD3870XT 512 GDDR4.

Has anyone tried one of these yet.

2.8 is stable in BSEL or Defult mod?
is the BSEL mod with E4500 similar to E4300
what pin you connet to each other

i try bsel mod on 4500 but not succesful
can you set a picture form your cpu

With the memory you have, you should have no trouble running at the 1:1 ratio.

You definetly DO NOT want the flexibility option enabled. I tried this on my machine and it set the fsb/memory ratio to 4:3 which sounds like what your getting.

Brokencase, so you are running your memory at 274.7 X2 = 549.4 although its spec'd to 667..... this is becuase you want to maintain a 1:1 fsb/memory ratio?

What is so good about 1:1?

I'm running my memory at 333.4 X2 = 666.7 although apparently it is spec'd to 675.

This however gives me a fsb/memory ratio of 4:5 <-- Why should I be worried?

Oh, I manually set the fsb in BIOS to 266, by the way. And manually set the memory to 333 there too.

Hi.

Microsystem. 2.8ghz was before the BSEL mod using 255fsb *11 (e4500) with 2* 1gig Geil 800 ram running as 533 3,3,3,9 2t .

Anything over 260fsb was unstable.

A GOOD power supply is essential.

Quote from another user here for the BSEL mod.

Also, here's how the 200Mhz to 266Mhz BSEL CPU Pin mod looks after using the same techniques as in the link above (Which is what I DID do):

http://www.techspot.com/galler...7/cat/500/ppuser/25139

You said that you tried this and it didnt work. What did you use to paint on the cpu. I used Comma heated window repair kit from Halfords( auto shop ).

After doing the mod a reboot showed nothing, so i thought it hadnt worked. I went into bios and selected cpu auto and it showed a default fsb of 266 instead of 200 confirming it had worked.

From there i went manual, and now sit at 272fsb for a round 3gig cpu at stock volts. Ram set at 533 4,4,4,10 2t.

So far all working fine . Dont know if i want to push any further as my pc is now running like a new machine. I might try just to see what it can do at stock volts.

tj99 and Mr Vain thanks
I used aluminum foil. I make a spring with it at BSEL pin to ensure it connected correctly. Other pin will be connoted correctly with mobo pressure.
But in my system selecting cpu auto showes a default fsb of 266 instead of 200 without BSEL mod and system cannot be booted.
I manually chose 232 to system booted
I never can be boot my system in FBS 233 and above with and without BSEL mod(with aluminum foil)
Does any paint shop have this paint you used. how cost is it (in dollars).

I have tow DDRII 1G 667 Kingston CL5 rams

Microsystem.

The e4300 should be a 200fsb chip and the auto setting should set it at that.
Make sure that tour foil spring is not touching the pins in between the 2 you need - shorting the other pins will / could damage your cpu.

Remove the foil and clear the cmos/bios back to default. then try raising it to 240fsb to start with.

let us know what happens after clearing the cmos and starting again.
