You could export out to a .txt file and then edit it in notepad.

Sorry kdkwarhead, I did not notice in your earlier post that you also have Q6600.

So from your data it looks like you also hit the 277 barrier, and you are running ATI AGP video like me.

On the other hand I think Alex0915 is not AGP but PCI Express. It will be interesting to see if he can go higher than 277 fsb, no?

BTW, your data indicates you are using the 333mhz memory setting. I think you will find that you get better memory bandwidth at the 266mhz setting where the fsb/memory bus ration is 1:1.

Yes, this is true. I am running a Gecube x1950pro 512mb card on pcie, getting the HIS standard ice-q 512mb 3870 tomorrow (cant find the turbo edition in stock anywhere!) I was going to get the single slot sapphire version (vapor cooled) but its new tech, and I have some reservations on what would happen if there were "vapor leakage." I am going to bite the bullet and get a dual slot HIS ice q and dump my 60cfm pci slot cooler... good idea?

Sounds good. Did you ever check to see if that pci slot fan was working against your present card ?

Brokencase, I think your 277 barrier is the chipset wall. For some on this board its 290, others like me, 280. Basically the only way around it is to up the vagp (no matter if pcie or agp card) and do the vagp voltage mod. Vagp is also the chipset voltage. Also make sure the northbridge are properly cooled (and reapply good thermal paste) and maybe even put a sink on a chip between the pcie and agp slots. http://forums.vr-zone.com/showthread.php?t=93127

But even with this mod, (and a vcore mod) it looks like 305 to 320 tops, so its up to you to decide if its worth it. For me its not.

Yea, I re-ran 3DMark06, and noticed that the exhaust from the pci slot fan (its an evercool fox-2) blew out hot air from the back. It has a cfm rating of 60. I wonder what the cfm rating of the HIS fan is? Do the standard and turbo versions use the exact same cooling fans?

I use the following drivers:
VIA drivers 5.15a (Chipset)
Rhine driver v60 (LAN)
WDM_R185 1.85 (Reltek Audio)

What driver versions is recommended?

I get random boot lock up (during the windows logo). I think i tryed everyting except diffrent MB drivers. It lock upp about 1 time of 5).
I removed ATI drivers, no change.
No OC, no change.
Prime95 (Quad) for 8 hours, no problem (OC 277, mem timing 3-3-3-10-1)
Memtest86 3.4a (30 min), no problem (OC 277, mem timing 3-3-3-10-1)
Turned of floppy, Audio, Midi, Gameport in bios, no change
Removed AVG and some other programs, no change.

My startup:
CDTFMON.EXE
Alcmtr (Audio drivers is loaded even if audio is turned off in bios)
FinePrint Dispatcher v5
RTHDCPL (Audio drivers is loaded even if audio is turned off in bios)
SunJavaUpdateSched
Windows Defender
avast!
zFTPServer.

I will remove more programs from startup and se if it helps

Dose any one try overclocking Q6600 to 3000 MHz and over
What is the method?
Can it be done with volt mod(e.g 1.51 V)?

It?s very difficult to OC the motherboard above FSB 277. Q6600 2.4GHz has a 9x multiplier therefore max is 277x9~2500MHz. 290 works for some people (9x290~2600MHz). The best FSB that I heard of for this MB (with voltage mod) is FSB 320 (2900MHz) but I?m not sure that is possible.

what's the best ram to run with this board?

i'm currently running 2 x 1GBs PC5400 DDRII 667 @ 3-3-3-10
even thought G-Skill states it should be 4-4-4-12 ???

w/ Q6600 @ 2.2GHz ( underclocked )

To all those who have got a working 3870 with this board, which brand of card did you buy? Ive heard of people having problems with their 3870s unless theyre from specific brands so I'd like some input before I get the HIS. Thanks!

3-3-3 is a tighter and faster timing than 4-4-4, so whats the complaint ?

Just increase the fsb and see how far you can go.

Your driver versions are the same as mine and they run fine, knock on wood. I think its probably in the startup programs/windows routines, which if ram problems, may have earlier corrupted files.

I would run memtest for at least a few hours to test, especially with 2 gigs of ram, the passes take more time. My first Adata stick, which I rma'd, only failed a test after an hour.

Also, I would use OCCT to test instead of prime. It gets the cores hotter.

Yep, the vagp mod and the vcore mod, both of which are trickier to do than the easy bsel mod.

I removed the Audio driver and it "seems" like it's working now. I set my computer up to do this automatically:

1) Start some programs including BOINC (donation of computer power)
2) wait 60sec (to build some temperature)
3) Restart.

Then I waited for 1 hour and the computer was still booting just fine (One cycle takes about 2.5 minutes=24 reboots).

I liked the Reltek audio but I will put in my Augity 2 later (I need the firewire port anyway).
I don?t know why I got a problem with the 1.85 drivers, bad luck I guess.

OCCT=OCCT Perestroika @ www.ocbase.com? I will try it, thanks!

I now use the 1.80A bios with Speedstep and Auto Fan @ 45°
Max core temp with Prime 95 @ 2.5GHz 62° (Total load 160W) Fan 2050 rpm
Min core temp with Prime 95 @ 1.6GHz 42° (Total load 105W) Fan 850 rpm

(My CPU fan was slower (1850 rpm) with out Auto Fan)

My Q1 is aways ~4° warmer then Q2, and Q2 is ~2° warmer then Q3 & Q4. Is this "normal"?

Im thinking of getting the 112 stream processor MSI 8800GTS 640mb video card for this board? Do you guys think it would be better than the radeon 3870 and I wouldnt need to flash my bios?

Alex, remember that this is not a gamer MB. It has AGP x8 and PCX but PCX is only 4x instead of x16. I don?t think that PCI-16 is so important but there are faster MB. If you are going for a fast GFX-card then you should buy a faster MB as well. I bought this MB because I recently bought my A1950Pro AGP and I wanted to use it in my new computer.

Yep, OCCT=OCCT Perestroika @ www.ocbase.com.

When using it, also enable monitoring in settings. You can choose Speedfan, Coretemp or some other programs as the monitoring software. Then at the end of the run, it gives you a graph of temps and voltages. Pretty nifty.

Try the OCCT and then note the difference in core temps. OCCT works the cores more evenly and harder.

The only quirk I notice with the Realtek 1.85 drivers is in digital 5.1 spdif output, there is some distortion on the rear speakers playing music. But that may be from my 2 channel stereo input source, I havent really investigated that deeply because the 1.86 etc drivers will be out soon anyway. Realtek seems to update often.

I tryed OCCT and it added 3° to max Core temp so it's harder then Prime 95. I need spdif so I hope my Augity will work fine with this MB.

Ok, I searched high and low and still cant find that pcie setting for turning off downstream pipeline. From what I understand, this is absolutely necessary to stop artifacting with the 8800GTS and the 3870 cards. I went into advanced and chipset config but it just isnt there. Can anyone point out where it is in the list? I have everything set to auto, including the pcie clock...maybe thats the problem?

Just increase the fsb and see how far you can go.

so far any changes i make to the fsb and/or bios causes my pc NOT to boot & just hang.
trying to get more juice out the pc.

also, what's better for this board: E8400 or the E6850
besides the $80 price difference & the 45nm vs 65nm

i'm trying to figure some things out here.

ok so if the Q6600 2.4Ghz w/ a 9X multiplier is at 2400/9 = 266Mhz
while trying to have the CPU & RAM at 1:1 & DDR2 would be 266 x 2 = 533Mhz

would my best shot be ram rated at DDR2 533?
i'm running 667 so i guess that doesn't give me 1:1
is that good or bad?

thanks for any help.

Its not bad per se, just that the VIA P880 Ultra chipset seems to work better if the ram is 1:1 ratio.

You can set the ram to run at 533Mhz in the bios. I run ddr2800 at 533 in this board with the q6600 G0, but anything over 270 equals a non boot. Similar issues to what people are seeing where it hangs just before the loading of the OS starts.

I think you are partially correct. Which is a good thing!

After reading your post I decided to go into my BIOS and set the AGP Voltage to "High". Believe it or not, I have never done this before.
Sure enough I am now able to boot at 280 fsb.

Now here is what I think. I still think it's the old ATI AGP card that is my way.
I had the same behavior in the previous motherboard with this video card when trying to OC.
I think the ATI driver goes through some weird states at windows boot time.

And another thing, why is it that I can raise the fsb to 300 or so once I have booted XP with the softfsb utility?

Let's wait to Alex gets over his current issues and his system is stable and he starts raising the fsb in small increments.
I think with PCIe video he will be able to go higher in fsb without any video boot issues.

Alex, set your AGP volts to high in your bios.
