Well I wanted to see the best motherboard I can get while still using my AGP x1950 pro.. I mean If i must I guess I can sell my card too and just get a whole new system with PCIx16...

Any suggestions for AGP and Quad?

This isnt a real good board for quads. Most of the time you can overclock it back to stock settings or only a little over.

If youre set on getting the Quad, then sell your 1950pro and get something like the Abit IP35-E.

If keeping the x1950, then an e2180, e2200, e4500 or e4600 would be the way to go.

Are the e2180 to e600 dual cores? Also what would be a card as good as my x1950?

Yes, the e2xxx to e8xxx are dual cores.

A 8600gts with the latest drivers would probably be comparable to your x1950pro.

The only thing that worries me about that ram is that it is high voltage 2.2 volts ram . On this mobo, the high setting is only about 1.9 volts.

This is the one without the LEDs, from what I have read here other people have used 2.2v sticks ok.

--------------------

I've just come across a new problem, when I run 3DMark it reboots during testing, no bsod.
When I run games it freezes and I have to reboot.

CPU temps are about 40.
I'm using crucial DDR400 512mb x2
Ati X1950XT AGP

I have left all other settings at default (auto). I just did the BSEL mod. I'm gonna get some thermal paste and then remove the BSEL mod and see if that fixes it.

When you get it, post your results with the ram.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------

Check your Event Viewer for any error messages when that happens. I dont think it has anything to do with your bsel mod, so dont remove it. Maybe more vcore or an ATI driver issue. What psu do you have ? Post all the voltage showing in bios pc health.

thanks for the reply

I checked the event viewer and nothing in there. I ran the 3dmark again and this time a windows error came up (during the first test):
Faulting application 3dmark06.exe, version 1.1.0.0, faulting module d3dx9_28.dll, version 9.10.455.0, fault address 0x000e739c

Looks like a DX9 issue?
I then checked the DRAM and it was at 166 (8.5 ratio)
I set this to 200 4:5 ratio and ran the test again, this time it got to the CPU test and it restarted.
Maybe its memory, I'll wait for the DDR2

CPUZ reports my FSB as 1024 and BUS as 256

Here are the vcores:
Vcore : 1.322
+3.3 : 3.38 - 3.4
+5.0 : 5.01
+12 : 12.12

My power supply is a Corsair Modular 520W, it has enough juice on the 12v.

As I'm writing this my Ballistix has just turned up, I'm gonna try it now.

Just tried the ballistix 800 sticks 2x1gb

It detects it as 533, so I set it as 667 and ran 3dmark it rebooted during the first test. Setting the voltage to high causes it to freeze.
Set it back to 533 and ran 3dmark and it gets further, reboots at the start of the cpu test.

Any thoughts?

Manually set bios chipset options as follows,

Dram Freq. - 266
Flexib.- Disabled
Cas Latency - 4
Precharge - 4
Tras - 12
Trcd - 4
Command Rate - 2T

DRAM Voltage - High ---> (ballistic DDRII800 needs all the volts it can get)

AGP Voltage - High ---> (northbridge needs all the volts it can get for ANY overclocking ---> especially if n/b is a 880pro)

Also, failing 3dmark "cpu" tests could be indication of cpu volts starvation, or even a questionable psu?

And presumably you continual uncontrolled reboots, rather than showing "error" messages, are because your windows setup is configured to reboot on any fault ---> meaning at "System Properties, Start and Recovery" tab, "automatically Restart" has been selected ?

I configured it not to reboot now, still no error messages in or bsod.

Tried the timings you suggested at first it hung when loading xp. Tried again and it booted, ran 3dmark and it failed during the firefly test (2nd).

I also updated the bios to 1.90.
I'm gonna try some DDR2 667 and DDR2 800 from work on Monday and also remove the BSEL mod.

The PSU has been working fine with my previous config with the 1950XT.

If I fail to get this working I'm gonna RMA the mobo and get a ASUS P5KC AiLifestyle Series iP35 and a 8800GT. I got enough old parts to sell to make a bit of money.

Any other suggestions would be appreciated.
Thanks for your help

Yes, reinstall DX9c.

Setting the voltage to high causes it to freeze.

Maybe you have low voltage balistics ??? Leave it at 533mhz and set vdimm voltage to normal or low.

You did clear the cmos after updating the bios and load the optimized defaults ???

forgot to mention; I did reinstall dx9 (gonna reinstall xp again on monday) and it still reboots

the mem is definately 2.2v, it froze on high setting when DRAM was set to 667, but if DRAM is set to 533 then I can set DRAM V to high

Did all the loading optimised defaults.

Thanks

Hi im new to this and the forums. I just got this motherboard and was wondering how to correctly turn my memory settings up to 5-5-12. My hardware is as follows Sound Blasters Audigy2,Visiontek x1950 PRO AGP XGE,2 GB of A-Data 5300 667 ddr 2 memory & a 200 GB Maxtor Sata HD running a Intel Celeron D 356 3.3 GHZ . I also installed three 80 MM fans and a HDD cooler so my computer runs at around 33C. I would appriciate it if someone could tell me how or gimme a site that can explain how.

Just go into bios by pressing F2 at bootup and in Chipset Configuration change the settings :

DRAM Frequency [266MHz (DDRII533) ]
Flexibility Option [Disabled]
DRAM CAS# Latency [5]
DRAM Bank Interleave [4-Way]
Precharge to Active (Trp) [5T]
Active to Precharge (Tras) [12T]
Active to CMD (Trcd) [5T]
REF to ACT/REF to REF (Trfc) [28T]
ACT (0) to ACT (1) (Trrd) [3T]
Read to Precharge (Trtp) [Auto]
Write to Read CMD (Twtr) [3T]
Write Recovery Time (Twr) [3T]
DRAM Bus Selection [Dual Channel]
DRAM Command Rate [2T Command]

But these are slow timings.

Look back in this thread for 3-3-3-9 timings and try those, they are faster.

Since you have a 25X multiplier, a bsel mod is really a mute point.

But heres a picture of how it could be done in theory.

I decided to run Prime95 and discovered that the PC reboots when at 100CPU.

So I removed the BSEL mod and ran 3DMark and Prime95 and its stable. Guess I need a volt mod.

Gonna try a manual fsb boost.

Well, you have to decide whether to sli or not, and if sli then nvidia or ati cards ?

If not sli, then a p35 board. The Abit IP35-E is a nice board for under $100.
