I dont see CPU Thermal Thr in my bios. If your not overclocking ram is it nessecary to set Dram Volts - High? I havent tried setting AGP Volts - High mabey thats the problem. Thanks for the suggestions.

the Mb still won't go into stand by even after trying 1.50a and now 1.60. In Bios i have..

Suspend to RAM - auto
Repost video on STR resume - enable
Check Ready Bit - enable

and

ACPI HPET Table - disable (- what is this?)

and video wise 3dmark is worst than my previous score with the old Asus boad. I checked all AGP options as ..

Pri Gra Adapt - AGP
AGP = x8
AGP Fastwrite - Enabled
AGP Aperture - 128
AGP Stagger Delay - Auto
AGP 3.0 Calibration - Auto
AGP Fast Write - Enabled
AGP voltage - Normal - not overclocking

and i even used Rvia Tuner to get AGP Sidebanding on

so far score is less than half of before (3dmark 2005 is 1345!!!). Same video, same driver..

CPU Thermal Throttling should be available in the modded bios only available from below link. I don?t use it so I can?t confirm it
http://www.pc-treiber.net/file....php?fileid=1461&lim=0

As a consequence of increasing the FSB the ram becomes overclocked and by increasing the ram voltage you can cancel that as the cause of your issues.
Best settings that I have found is to run 667 RAM the ram at 533 as it goes to 1-1 timings and is more stable IMO.

Also
In the Bios find
Advanced Host Conf:
Pipeline DRQCTL - Enabled It

Edit
One very important piece of hardware often overlooked but essential to overclocking is a good stable PSU.
I?m using the Thermaltake 750w toughpower unit.

I tried this one and thermal throttling didnt seem to work for me.(using standard intel heatsink - dissapointed to find all aluminium, no copper core on this, as i thought the e5XXX heatsink had copper cores )

Now have my e4500 orthos stable at 2882mhz ( 11*262 ) with my ram at 3.3.3.9 2t.
Under full load with orthos running and intel TAT. My cpu cores hit 48c cpu0 and 53c cpu1.
5c difference between them is not good i think. Using a Zalman 9500.

I have notived that under load my cpu volts drop to 1.22v from 1.28, is this why i cant go higher without a volt mod.

Can any one offer advice on why this board loses 1gig of ram at post if i use fsb of 270 or above. Is this a cpu volt problem or something to do with ram timings or volts.

I would appreciate any help on the lost ram as i think this is holding me back at the moment.

Some of these settings may be usefull to SATA2 boards

My E2180
On 775Dual-VSTA results should comparable with 4CoreDual-SATA2 Motherboard.
No volt mods
So far booted @310FSB
Stable @300FSB
Cpu-z voltage average 1.28
Water cooling it but that should not make any difference at this speed.

Again, you guys must realize that this is a very low-priced MB that supports legacy hardware - AGP, DDR1, parallel port printers etc. - from a purposefully low end arm of ASUS. I'm surprised that they have as many BIOS and driver updates as they do. I am not looking for anything great from this board, other than stability to run my old stuff, as I am not ready to upgrade my video card, RAM, or PSU. It runs the E6600 nicely at a mild OC. When things have settled and the Intel 38 chipset is mainstream, DDR3 is not an arm and a leg, and PCIe 2.0 is out, then I'll look for a good OC MB from ASUS or Gigabyte, but now, this cheap little thing is fine and I have a mild overclock at 295 FSB, although it boots fine at 310 FSB but not stable with orthos.

I was using RiverTuner and just found that AGP is shown as disabled. (but in BIOS it is enabled and set to x8). So i guess that is why i am getting poor video performance. I might try to einstall teh VIA chipset if that helps, but does anyone knows why would AGP shown as disabled?

edit: fixed after reinstalling 4in1 4 times to get via to install the cpu to agp driver. for some reason it wn't install it and i had to copy the file from 4in1 folder. wondering if thats part of the cause for not letting the systm to go into stand by.. gonna check all drivers.

This board will get me by for awhile but I plan to get an Geforce 8800 soon so Ill be needing a better board; 4 X PCIE aint gonna cut it. Anyone got a good recomendATION for a good but not too expensive MB for my Core 2?

Go for the eVGA 650i Ultra board, it's the best performer out of any board (according to AT), and is only $80.

Both sticks the same - a matched pair of GeIL 2GB (2x1GB) PC6400C4 800MHz Ultra Low Latency DDR2 Dual Channel Kit .

I have tried every combination of settings mentioned in these forums from the 1st dual vsta , quad vsta and the board i have the quad vsta sata2. It will not go over 262 orthos stable.

Never have been able to run with flexability turned off, and never had a 1T command rate; it locks up after stating the cpu speed and f2 option.

I can boot at 268 but orthos fails with rounding errors. Anything over 270fsb and 1gig of ram dissapears and i get single channel mode showing.

I am running a modular power supply - a JEANTECH - 700W *STORM*. I dont think this is the problem.

I guess the only thing i havent tried is running with just 1 stick of ram - but that kind of defeats the object a bit.

I`m thinking that i either need more volts to the ram or more to the cpu. It could even be that i have a bad stick of ram - just dont know any more.

Try one stick at a time in different slots and try running in single channel also.
Some early mobos had defective memory slots and on some you had to push them in hard etc for them to work.

Hi to Mr Vain.

Have now tried swapping ram modules around and reseated both - same issue.

Tried running with 1 module. 1st in slot 1 then slot 2 - system boots into windows and will benchmark, but its slow because its single channel 1gig. Fails orthos in seconds.

If i take it above 270fsb it reboot loops all the time with 1gig of ram. As i drop the fsb back down it returns to dual channel at 268fsb and becomes orthos stable at 262fsb. At 262 it will occasionally lock up in games. Running at 260fsb for 2861mhz stable 24/7. ( still not bad for a 2.2ghz chip for nothing, but wanted more)

I dont think it is a faulty ram slot, because of the way dual channel returns below 268fsb.

I have noticed when removing my ram that the sticker on it says 2.1v. cpuz reads my ram spd settings all wrong and says 1.8v at spd 200,266 & 400. Any idea if this ram needs 2.1v to run at its best or will/should it run ok at 1.8v. It is my understanding that this board can only supply 2.0v at ddr high setting( which i am using)

I would be interested to see what others are getting with an E4500 at stock 1.28v on this board without any volt mods to ram / agp etc.It may well be that i need a 1.35v cpu to go higher.Shame i cant drop the multiplier on this to try higher fsb.

Next option to try is to get in the loft and hunt for my ddr1 ram and give that a go to see what happens.

Thanks for the help, but it seems i am stuck with 2861mhz at the moment.

Is anyone aware of any AsRock boards (or ANY brand, lol), like the Dual series (ie: DDR+DDR2, AGP+PCIe) which can handle the new 1333FSB Intels?

Or, say, could I install a E6850, and downclock the bus to 266? (Or am I just dreaming?) I'm helping out a friend with an upgrade, and I wanted to get him something for his old bits, but take advantage of the prices of the XX50 series Intels.

tj99 - Loosen your RAM timings to 5-5-5-15 ( or you can try stock timings), it's one of those things you need to do when overclocking. Tight timings dont really make that much difference anyway. Just remember, the higher the clock speeds, the looser the timings need to be.
Flexibility mode just drops the RAM clocks by 70MHz or so (so you can try some "extreme" overclocks, lol, yeh rite). And you will never get a 1T command rate with 800MHz RAM, (especially with this board)

EDIT - OMFG! I just remembered. PC6400 RAM is unsupported on this board. Try running it at 667MHz (with no over clock) or 533 if you are going to OC (hell, may as well be 667, the DIMMs are rated for 800+). Loose timings BTW.

@ink

I think someone did try successfully a 1333fsb cpu. Regardless, there is no reason it shouldn't
run at 1066fsb speeds. Some more reports on this would certainly be nice.

Part of the reason I worried/confused is that no-one can seem to get the bus very far over 300MHz (ie: Bus x 4 = FSB)

I can get fsb to 290 X 8 with E6750 (1333fsb)
So the 2,66 is running 2.32 ghz
really good underclocking!!

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

the e4500 runs native 11*200 - running it at 266 should be possible without relaxing timing to 5,5,5,15 as it is a native 533 on the ram which should be 4,4,4,12 at best. I have tried both by the way 4,4,4,12 and 5,5,5,15 and it doesnt cure the missing 1gig problem. Flex drops the ram timings by 70mhz or so - where did you get this info and is there a way to prove it, as all programs , cpuz, everest etc still read it at the same speed as my front side bus. As for not getting 1t with 800mhz ram - unless i am mistaken Mr Vain is running Geil ram at just that - 1t command. Many people are running 1t according to these forums, and many are running 800mhz ram without problems.

I still think it is an issue with the e4500 at 1.28v.

I'm @ 305 FSB on stock air and running orthos and OCCT without problems. Super Pi won't run, even at normal (266) FSB. I am running Vista 64bit, happily.

You can see how Flexibility Mode works if you use CPUz. Run the RAM with flex on/off and look at the memory speed on the Memory tab of CPUz. If there is no speed shown for your RAM, this usually happens when there are conflicts/incompatability with your RAM.

1T timings are no special thing anyway. They can run at a lower command rate, but how does this work out at the benchtest? If you are experiencing lower latency, then go ahead with it. I tried it and doubled my latency, so no go there.

Your problems with the E4500 could be power related. How good is your PSU?
