For some reason I have a problem with the logitech g5 mouse (2 buttons). Whenever I am gaming and move my mouse it is fine, but if I stop moving the mouse for about 10 seconds and then start moving it again the mouse freezes for a second and then resets to default dpi; sometimes it bsod's win xp. I have brought the mouse back to best buy and got a replacement and it's doing exactly the same thing. I've tried it in my roommate's computer and it works flawlessly. Reformatted my hd and it's still doing it on a fresh win xp install. It even does that on default windows drivers.

I pretty much ran out of options and am completely stumped at what's going on.
My psu is running 3.3 and 12v rails at more that 5% under maybe thats why? I've got a 650w coming on thursday.

Also wouldn't mind squeezing out more performace on this board so would a vcore mod be required if i bsel mod?

I am new to this forum, but I have literally read thru almost all the pages in this thread and just wanted to say I really appreciate the wealth of information being offered up here. I just purchased this motherboard and should be getting it in the next few days. I have several questions of my own but will start out with current cpu specs:

P4 3.2E @ 3.9
Asus P4C800E Rev 2
Powercolor 3850 AGP 512MB oc'ed @ 810/1026 (no mods)
OCZ EL XTC DDR400 @ FSB 245 2.5/2/3/5
Thermaltake Toughpower 750 Watt PSU
Creative XFi Xtreme Gamer
WD Raptor 160GB
LG 1933TR 19" LCD
Thermaltake Kandalf Case
3.120 Black Ice Radiator
1.120 Swiftech Rad
Waterchill my CPU/NB/Vid card
Modded AC Unit as water chiller

With this setup have been able to get 7100+ in3dmark06 but I will be updating my cpu and mobo in the next few days. I will be switching to a E6700 and the Asrock Sata2 but for now all the other stuff will remain the same. Is there any advice that can be offered? Does anyone else have a similar setup to mine or my new upcoming setup? I also was considering buying this ram:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/...x?Item=N82E16820145015

has anyone tried this ram or corsair in general. Thanks in advance!!

Expect to do about 2.8-3.1 ghz on stock vcore. So after doing the bsel mod, a vcore mod and a good heatsink will be necessary to go higher. With a 12x multi on the e4600, 3.6ghz is not out of the question. Good Luck.

With the e6700, you wont have to do a bsel mod, as it is already a 10X 1066fsb processor.

With ddr2 prices so low, you may want to sell the ddr1 if you dont have 2gb. However, youll probably top out at 2.9 - 3.0ghz so the ddr1 with the low latency will do well if you do have the max 2gb.

I'm interested in getting a 2900XT and was wondering if this card works on this board properly. I saw in this thread that Asrock says it'll work but does anyone here have any hands on experience or can test this in anyway? Thanks.

Just a quick question to the people who've done the BSEL mod. Does it cause problem in other boards if I lateron change my Motherboard? Does other boards see it as a 1066 fsb processor? Thanks.

No it doesnt cause problems on other boards. And most other boards will see it as a 1066fsb processor. (IIRC, there are some boards that the bsel doesnt work on though)

Hello. I bought the Q6660 today to replace my Celeron D 346. As soon as I try to boot up the computer, I get a loud deafening beep and no POST on the monitor.

I checked all connections on the motherboard and they seem fine and yet I have no clue as to what is going on. Even tried reseting CMOS using the jumper to see if that did anything but nothing. Does anybody know what is wrong?

System specs

ASRock 4CoreDual-SATA2
Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 using stock retail heatsink
2x1GB OCZ Platinum Revision 2 XTC Series DDR2-6400
Hitachi Deskstar 120GB IDE
NEC 16x DVD-RW IDE
XFX Nvidia 6800GT AGP
Creative Labs SoundBlaster 5.1 Live PCI
Akasa Paxpower 460W PSU

Sounds like some wire was not connected properly, or possibly not connected at all. For example, I think I get some kind of beeping sound when I forget to connect my video card and try and boot up my computer. Other than that I am not sure what exactly it can be!

Yeah I managed to have figured it out now, it was a one duff molex connector to the graphics card, after switching around each molex connected to used devices just to check.

And yes it was a steady beep. Scared the crap out of me though, but at least I now know what this one means.

Anyway, I know that this motherboard has issues especially with the Q6600, but get this, I can only overclock it to 268 FSB LOL! I managed 284 FSB at one point and was able to boot in fine many times, but after no idea what went wrong, anywhere past 268, the Windows logo screen will not boot up and it just hangs forever. Kinda sucks really but it is still fast enough on stock speeds for the things I do.

Well, if it sounds anything like I remember, then it was more like a high pitched screeching sound!! I remember the first time I had forgotten to plug in my card and I heard it, just about scared the crap out of me. I thought I had fried something at first, luckily it was just something easily fixed!!

Yeah I think that is the better description. Heck more like an "alarm" lol.

I also thought that maybe the CPU fried or it was something to do with the PSU. Feared for the worse but yeah, couldn't believe it was just the power to the graphics card.

The damn thing definitely is a wakeup call though.

You're doing well! Mine won't boot at 1MHz over 266, and not always at 266!

As posted above, SetFSB is the way to go. From the batch file idea, I've now got shortcuts on my desktop to OC as required, return to standard, or shutdown. Works for me!

Yeah there was a point where even at 266 it had the same problem and when it did mange to get into the Windows boot logo, it would get an instant BSOD, not knowing what it says and it would restart the computer only to go through the same cycle. Only way for me to fix it was to repair the Windows installation on the hard drive.

I guess I will give SetFSB a go to see what I can get. Course I will have to find out what PLL number this is. How much were you able to overclock on it?

Rock solid fine at 290, no go at 291!

The PLL on mine is RTM866-485. The best way to find the right one (assuming a Q6600 with no BIOS CPU set to Auto) is to query each one until you get a reading of 253 (actually 253.3 on mine). That one should do it.

So after the new install it allowed you to reach a higher FSB? Did you do anything different in the bios after the install?

Unfortunately not. Still only the 268FSB barrier. No changes on the other settings in the BIOS was able to make any difference. I left everything on Auto/Default settings just to be on the safe side when I repaired my installation.

From my previous post, changing the PSU to Xigmatek MC-651 650w still didn't help my logitech g5 problem. Anyone else had mice problems on this board?

Pretty much from the general consensus I see. Although it also depends on how lucky or unlucky your particular motherboard is. Afterall this is a budget board, so you cannot really expect much. But from the many previous posts, it does tend to favour the lower segment of the Core 2 Duos very well though.

Anyway as for the PLL number for my board, it is ICS953002DFLF. Going to try and see what I can manage.

I guess I should have read more from "users" verses review sites before buying this board. Quotes like this don't seem to hold up well:

"None of this means that the ASRock boards are bad, however. The ability to run the latest quad core Intel processors on an inexpensive motherboard could certainly prove useful for applications that are primarily bottlenecked by the CPU. Core 2 Quad processors are probably too expensive for most people to consider using one in a $70 motherboard right now, but when the Q6600 drops to under $260 shortly it becomes a bit more feasible."

Yeah its basically like saying "Whilst Core 2 Quad CPUs are capable on this motherboard, just don't expect it to run perfectly" .

But yeah, just blame the limited VIA chipset, and yet, its also why this is a good cheap motherboard in other aspects .

I wanted to run Dariks Boot and Nuke to wipe my 500gb SATA2 HD before I return it to BB. However, it fails, probly because it cant see the drive. When I turn Raid on in BIOS, it still fails. I tried all the disk wipe utils and they dont detect the HD. I burned the beta version of DBAN and still no go. Someone said that during POST you hit ctrl+z for SATA drives, but all that does is show me what the serial number is. There are options to move the array but since I only have 1 SATA HD they are greyed out. Is it even possible to wipe a SATA drive in DBAN or indeed any tool? I'm confused as to what Im supposed to do. The beta DBAN should support most SATA drives but it wont work on my rig.

Well my A-data DDR2800 2x1gb ram came today. Promptly installed it (along with my old IDE HD, SATA still confuses me), and installed my nLite custom XP Sp2 that took around 20 minutes including the format. I've installed all my games and they all installed fine. No errors at all. In fact, no BSODs (knock wood) or installer errors, the system has been running snappy since 4pm when I installed the ram and turned it on. I can finally enjoy my computer. These last 2 weeks have been hell, but it goes to show that BAD ram (Kingston) can really make your life a miserable hell. Thanks for everyones help!

Hadn't known of DBAN until your post; thanks.

Reading thru the program's FAQ, there's this:
Q: Does DBAN have SATA support?

A: Yes, the current release has full SATA support.

If DBAN does not detect a SATA controller running in native mode, then run the controller setup program and enable the "legacy PATA support" option. (ie: "Push <F2> to enter setup" when the computer starts.)

SATA drivers for new computers will be added to DBAN as they are published for Linux. Drivers for Microsoft Windows are incompatible with DBAN and cannot be added to DBAN...

Q: Why doesn't DBAN detect the SCSI disks attached to my RAID controller?

A: RAID controllers are unsupported. Only regular SCSI host adapters are supported.

Q: But I know people that use DBAN with RAID controllers...
Q: But why do you have changelog entries for RAID hardware?

A: DBAN does indeed have native drivers for most RAID implementations, but making it run can require configuration changes on the host. I cannot help if you lack enough clue to do this because I do not have hardware samples for development and testing. Send hardware if you want support for this equipment.

So it would appear that if it is to work at all, you must disable RAID mode in the BIOS. If that fails, the program does not support this chipset. Don't have a SATA drive myself else I'd test it.
